I made a call to MBB Amex to notify that I will be using my MBB cards overseas and before ending the call, the SC further advice on the 2.5% charge for Amex and 1% charge for Visa. Very pleasant service smile.gif

Dear Expert,

May I know how MBB charge the credit card oversea?
For example, Thai Baht.
If I use credit card to buy something with Thai Bath 500, how much will be in Ringgit Malaysia?
How is the calculation?

Please!! Urgent!! I in Thailand now. Short of money. Please

If it is that urgent and you are not being "pressed" to use your credit card, does it matter ? I take it this is your first time using your credit card overseas.
The bank will charge a reasonable exchange rate and not to suddenly charge you like a loan shark. If they do, you'll hear complaints long time back.

you will only be charges same as cash you change in money changer with 1% bank commission for visa.. see example below:

Transaction Date : 03-Mar-2013
Posting Date : 03-Mar-2013
Amount charged in foreign currency : THB 100
Amount billed in MYR : RM 10.52
Final exchange rate : 1 Thai Baht = 0.105211 Malaysian Ringgit

so, you need to pay RM10.52 if you swipe THB100 using your maybank creditcard.. no additional charge from bank..

you can try to check daily exchange rate for visa here, just put 1% for bank fee, and you can get the exchange rate for your visa card:

Currencies fluctuate every day. The rate shown is effective for transactions submitted to Visa on March 10, 2013, with a bank foreign transaction fee of 1%.

1 Euro = 4.117041 Malaysian Ringgit

I plan to buy AirAsia flight tickets from Hatyai to Bangkok tonight. The default currency stated in the website is in Thai Baht. Should I change the currency to MYR first before making payment to get a better rate? Or just stick to the original Thai Baht. Need some advice here.

Should not use CC at all since there's a processing fee involved

How much is the air fare in THB ? And how much is it in MYR ? There are a few times that i noticed Air Asia's exchange rate is cheaper.

I just checked AirAsia website. The currency will be charged according to the city of origin. So means cannot choose the currency lo.

Ah ? I helped my dad to book a one-way ticket from MNL back to Malaysia in December last year and Air Asia did give the option to pay either in Filipino Peso or Malaysian Ringgit. I chose Malaysian Ringgit and paid via CIMBClicks direct debit.

I just checked again and nothing has changed since my last booking with Air Asia three months ago. It is still possible to choose to pay in MYR even though if your flight is originating from a non-MY airport to a MY airport.

Anyway, it is possible that you are not able to choose MYR as the billing currency because your flight is a Thai domestic flight.

Just wonder your statement in CIMB account showed the amount in Peso or MYR or both? The amount in ur statement is exactly the same as ur payment amount?

It's only shown in MYR. And yes. It is the exact amount, no more no less. And i tried to do a dummy booking for a one-way ticket from Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur just now. I was able to choose to pay in MYR and there is also option to pay via direct debit (Maybank, CIMB, Public Bank and so on).

By the way, i tried to do a dummy booking from Hatyai to Bangkok just now and i can see the option to pay in MYR, and it is also possible to pay via direct debit through local Malaysian banks.
