Sorry if this is the wrong place. I need to pay something in GBP. Need to know which is the best conversion rate + fee among the cards I have.

MBB2 Amex or MC?

MC has 0.5% bank charge, while Amex is 0.5%+2.5% (3%). Which is quite alot.

But, if take into account Amex 5xTP & 5% cashback wouldn't Amex be a better choice than MC? 7.5% - 3%, I still earn 4.5% cashback.

Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks

P/S: I have other cards as well, OCBC Ti MC, HLB Mach Visa, Ambank Visa, & Cimb Debit MC

Hi guys,

Anyone knows how to calculate Maybank AMEX charges?

These are my details:
Transaction Date: 29-Dec-2012
Posting Date: 30-Dec-2012
Foreign Currency: JPY 5,000
Local Currency: RM 183.54

I know that any overseas transaction using AMEX will be converted to USD first, then convert to MYR, but which conversion rate date should I choose? 29 Dec or 28 Dec (following US time)?

Btw, I made the transaction on 29 Dec morning, so at that time US is still in 28 Dec..

Is it:
1. (amount) + 3.0% OR
2. ((amount) + 2.5%) + 0.5%

Please advise. Thanks!

When booking a room online, through Agoda.com for example, which is better (for least exchange rate) - the amount in MYR or local currency? Thank you

Always choose to pay in the local currency or USD. Your Maybank VISA or MasterCard will give you a better final exchange rate.

not in my case. agoda exchange rate in MYR is better than pay in USD when I booked last December. Agoda 3.01 where MBB Visa 3.06

but this only apply for agoda not sure with others. perhaps better to check the live exchange rate and compare with what Agoda offer will be a good practice

Last time I booked throught Agoda was in May last year and back then, the rare shown in MYR was more expensive than the market rate. And there was also a time that we were not allowed to choose the billing currency. All Malaysian credit cards will be automatically be billed in MYR even thought the rate you see on the checkout page is USD.

This is a terrible news. From your findings, or it is stated somewhere?

It's stated so at the back of our credit card statement.

I noticed the final exchange rate for some foreign currencies appear higher than usual. So i had a look at my bank statement and found about this admin fee increase sad.gif
