I'm using Byond PVR with internal HDD and 2 tuners..
Based on my simple "experiment" just now..,
Without 2 cable be feed into both of it's tuners,
the decoder will always show SERVICES CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE.. Even the clock will reset to 00:00 which means no signal can be captured by the tuners...
You're forced to feed it with dual wire... doh.gif
That's why when u change to Byond PVR, astro will also change your LNB to dual-output...

So weird..... blink.gif
Mine Installer told me that I still can use back the existing cable for the Byond PVR decoder
But I'll not able to watch any HD channel and do any recording... shocking.gif
At the end...I have to choice for install another cable to made the decoder full utilize... rclxms.gif

Maybe you can try to disconnect one of the cable and see whether you still can receive the signal or not... blush.gif
Probably your PVR are the new revision while my PVR are the first batch (i'm subscribing it when they first commenced the PVR decoder last year)

MCMC, Astro still discussing new pricing

KUALA LUMPUR: Astro's plan to adjust the pricing of its packages is not final and still being discussed with the Information, Communications and Culture Ministry.

"The ministry, via the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), is studying whether Astro's intention to raise the price is reasonable or not," Deputy Minister Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum said when answering a supplementary question from Datuk Mohamad Aziz (BN-Sri Gading) in Parliament here Wednesday.

Mohamad had asked the ministry to study Astro's move to adjust its prices, which he said were high.

Salang said Astro based subscription fees on the cost of acquisition and purchase of content and broadcasting rights of third parties.

This is consistent with the principle behind the fixing of rates provided under Section 198, Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

"MCMC has to analyse the price increase to ensure it is fair and reasonable based on the cost and not just solely motivated by profit," he said.

Monitoring by MCMC found that Astro did not carry too many commercials, averaging 19-to-20% or 46-to-50 minutes of the 240 minutes allowed daily.

The Government did not prevent Astro from carrying commercials provided they were not more 10 minutes hourly per channel.

"Most of the advertisement on Astro are promotion of its programmes and not considered as commercials as they do not give returns."

Salang said the ministry also set a licensing condition where Astro has to carry public service announcements one minute hourly on 10 channels. - Bernama

Never understand why you guys still using astro since they are giving you so much problems.
Problem like increase in price, upgrade to HD decoder with additional cost, harddisk compatibility problem, cannot power off the set for automatic update, old and recycle contents, so much advertisements, etc... and finally still have to pay them monthly fee. The damage is silly. And sound like living in stone age. You guys are victims of a tyrant.

Anyway, i have cut my astro long time ago since they wanted to charge me on upgrading to the HD decoder. I was so angry then, but it is a blessing in disguise because i am watching and streaming HD contents using media player now. I can even getting the latest contents,.. and not like astro .. you have to pay and then pay again for astro AOD.

for your information, I don't have any problem with my decoder and I'm happy with the content and charges so far. nobody can force you to upgrade to HD decoder and pay for it.

Did you experience any issue when you power on your B.yond PVR? No

Astro installer also told me not to power off the B.yond PVR. Ignore him

Anyone know what is the reason not to power off the B.yond PVR? There isn't one

Thanks for the info.

I don't encounter any power issue with PVR...
In fact, it has served me very well and next week will be it's first anniversary being at my home  tongue.gif

As for me, I just turned off the PVR at night, when I'm going to sleep, except if i'm planning to record something which on-air at the middle of night,
for the daytime, I just leave it on standby mode when I'm not using it.

Actually, the reason Astro advice their subscribers to not power off the PVR is to receive the automatic update from their side. Like software upgrade, EPG update etc etc..

Happy Anniversary rclxm9.gif

Thanks for the info.
Another reason might be long boot-up time?

Can we record the tv program in standby mode? or must power on the PVR?

Yes..., since PVR is just like a "mini" computer where many tests will be running when u turn on the unit... tongue.gif
And some more, you can record the tv program even in the standby mode (clock appear in the front panel of PVR)
