just upgraded to astro byond. but the installer told me to not to unplug the power cable of the decoder. he said, if i unplug it, the decoder will have problem to receive signal and have to wait 1 day for the CS to calibrate the signal. huh? what happen if the decoder got lightning (kilat/ sambar petir)?

If thats the case, the installer will come and replace the decode because the decoder itself it lifetime warranty (if i'm not mistaken), but that seldom happen, dont worry.

What type of file that the PVR recording will be saved into? Is it mpeg or mkv or anything else? Can we copy that file and play it on computer or is that file digitally protected?

MPEG2 for SD and h.264 for HD. All the recordings are digitally protected...

You won't be able to make copies as it's digitally locked to your decoder and smartcard.

You will got all in what their mention on superpack1. It up to you wanna use it or not. If next time you buy external HDD for recording, then just plug it and no more fee for you to pay.

MCMC, Astro still discussing new pricing

KUALA LUMPUR: Astro's plan to adjust the pricing of its packages is not final and still being discussed with the Information, Communications and Culture Ministry.

"The ministry, via the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), is studying whether Astro's intention to raise the price is reasonable or not," Deputy Minister Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum said when answering a supplementary question from Datuk Mohamad Aziz (BN-Sri Gading) in Parliament here Wednesday.

Mohamad had asked the ministry to study Astro's move to adjust its prices, which he said were high.

Salang said Astro based subscription fees on the cost of acquisition and purchase of content and broadcasting rights of third parties.

This is consistent with the principle behind the fixing of rates provided under Section 198, Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

"MCMC has to analyse the price increase to ensure it is fair and reasonable based on the cost and not just solely motivated by profit," he said.

Monitoring by MCMC found that Astro did not carry too many commercials, averaging 19-to-20% or 46-to-50 minutes of the 240 minutes allowed daily.

The Government did not prevent Astro from carrying commercials provided they were not more 10 minutes hourly per channel.

"Most of the advertisement on Astro are promotion of its programmes and not considered as commercials as they do not give returns."

Salang said the ministry also set a licensing condition where Astro has to carry public service announcements one minute hourly on 10 channels. - Bernama

2 LNB for B.yond PVR multi-tuner enables you to
1. record 2 channels at the same time
2. record 1 channel and watch 1 channel at the same time

based on your statement, i can assume that

1. if i subscribe to SP, i can simply attach any external hard disk drive to my byond decoder just to enable the PVR service

2. 2 LNB is not necessary for PVR service to work

correct me if i am wrong

Did you experience any issue when you power on your B.yond PVR?
Astro installer also told me not to power off the B.yond PVR.

Anyone know what is the reason not to power off the B.yond PVR?
