Hi all. I (newb) need some advice.
Im using Intel E2180 @ 2.0Ghz oc to 2.6Ghz (260x10)
Gigabyte 945GCM-S2L

My problem is, i cant oc above 2.6Ghz. BIOS will revert back all my previous settings to stock speed @ 2.0Ghz (200x10).
The only thing im changing right now is FSB. Everything else is default.

hi im newbies here, yesterday i overclocking my P4 from 2.66Ghz to 3.0Ghz, but when it reach 3.0Ghz the system become unstable, its going to restart..Im using ECS P4M800-M Mobo, i try to lock my AGP but there is no option for locking my AGP in the BIOS..and there is no option to setting my FSB too, the only way i can do is set my cpu core clock from 133Mhz to 150Mhz..i think my Mobo is less option for overclock setting..Any idea to make my overclocking more stable? biggrin.gif

Few questions,
1) What cooler do you have?
2) Which E8400? E0?

Suggestions (assuming you need to run @ 3600MHz),
1) Increase the vcore to 1.35v
2) DRAM voltage @ 1.8V for DDR3 is abit too high
3) Change you memory multiplier, 4.0D??!! shocking.gif doh.gif

1) For the moment, i'm using stock cooler (with case open and got extra 16" fan blowing it. Planning to buy one. It's either H5O or VenomousX. Still thinking).
2) E8400 EO (wolfdale)

1) Have try to increase the vcore to 1.35v. But failed also.
2) Hmm... that ram voltage is what is suggest by corsair. (i've send a question asking them the voltage if want to OC to 1600 Mhz. It's also written on the ram that voltage)
3) 4.0D or auto. That's the only choice if I set ram to 400 MHZ. If want to lower the multiplier, need to set either 333 or 200 Mhz

Firstly, it's your ram setting.
It doesn't matter to set it at 333MHz or even 200MHz. It doesn't mean it will run at 333MHz or 200MHz, especially when you overclock your system.

Secondly, I thought you were using DDR3 when i saw you set the ram timing @ 9-9-9-x.
1.8v for DDR3 is quite high.
Gosh, now I know you're using DDR2 and thus the default voltage is 1.8v.
Why set your ram timing at 9-9-9-x???!!!! The timing is so bloody freaking looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooose.
Go set it at 5-5-5-15.

With the stock heatsink, you should be able to clock to 3600MHz at 1.3-1.4v.

You are right. It's the ram setting. I've tried setting :

(G)MCH Frequency Latch [200Mhz]
System Memory Multiplier (SPD) [4.0D]

I can load into windows. Emm... i'm using DDR3 ram Corsair dominator TW3X4G1600C9D. It's wriiten on the ram 1600Mhz 9-9-9-24 1.80v ver 2.4. But in CPUz it's detect as CM3X2G1600C9DHX. Don't know which one is correct. hmm.gif Now the problem is to set all the voltage. Now i'm setting the voltage to auto coz confuse what voltage need to set. rclxub.gif Do U know how to set all the voltage. (That voltage that i'm setting at first is from a forumer advise on overclock.net).

Thanks a lot for your help and advice.

DDR3 @ 1.8v is kind of high to me. I thought most default DDR3 @ 1.5-1.65v.
It is okay to follow Corsair recommended voltage as written on the sticker.

The 4.0D is only the multiplier.
And 4.0D is like x4 of your bus speed (depending on bus speed too).
Most system will not be able to run 4.0D.
You need to lower the multiplier if you want to overclock.
Reduce the multiplier to the lowest value before you overclock. This is to ensure memory is not the bottleneck.

There are 3 things you need to find out,
1) What is the MAX bus speed the mobo can handle?
2) What is the MAX processor speed?
3) What is the MAX memory speed? What is the tightest timing @ X MHz?

Guys does anyone know Pentium D 805 @ default voltage with decent mobo + CM Hyper 212 cooler + DDR2 667 can overclock how high under non-air condition room? Rough figure lah so I can hit it with a good stability. Currently running @ 3.33Ghz tho.

how can i disable intel Speedstep in window 7? i cant find this option in my bios. mobo as in my sign...

Edit: found out it will disable it by turning off d EIST n C1E in the bios...

and also, will a oc proc can cause program to stop running? (games mainly)...i only get d games exe. stop responding after oc it and i din even get bsod...

Just test using Prime95 and it seems tat my 2nd core (CPU#1) ended the test few seconds after begin...does this means my 2nd core is defected(hardware failure detected)? prime95 is running fine on d 2 core at stock speed @1.3125V..i only configure the bus speed to 220x15 = 3.3Ghz..
I hope some1 can point me out d problem n steps i needed to take...thxs smile.gif

ya stability can cause program to end unexpectedly.

2nd core stop the calculation indicate that its not stable.i think more vcore should solve that.

btw what proc are we talking about??

Pentium D 925 biggrin.gif biggrin.gif ...gonna try to oc 1 time b4 moving on... tongue.gif
is there a limit of Vcore that i can pump into d proc? coz now im using 1.425V but still unable to prime 2nd core..
now testing at 3.1ghz @ 1.325vcore, it fail at 5th prime test, but at 3.15ghz and above, it cant...i even try d vcore to 1.52..but ended up bsod...too much voltage can end up bsod also?
well,it seems fine wit 3.1ghz playing games...but it suxs tat it can only do so low cry.gif ...the pc owner problem sad.gif tongue.gif

but 1 thing i get from this is that it was quite fun to mess around in order to achieve a stable speed...

I think it is ur RAM or FSB issue on ur 65nm Pentium D. it has nothing to do with Vcore. Increasing vcore wont change anything only increase power consumption.

I can run my old 90nm Pentium D 2.66GHz(533FSB) @ 3.33GHz(667 FSB) ROCK stable @ default voltage, using cooler master Hyper 212 @ non- Air cond room (Close casing), So ur newer Pentium D should be ok with 3.1GHz if it is not the FSB/RAM stopping u.

Currently I am asking/finding anyone here who got experience of overclocking this Pentium D further @ default voltage, seems I dont get answer at all -.-

juz do trial n error lor biggrin.gif ....try increase until hit d wall? tats what i heard they always did...i gotta go bac n test whats is the problem of my oc...since 3.15 also cant...and 3.1 also got problem at prime test...haiz...i thought suppose all at default at least can increase few mhz..but turn out i was wrong cry.gif

and also, when u increase d bus speed, d ram speed will auto increase right? coz im using 333mhz for d ram...i try tighter timing n it cant boot to POST lol...
u know where can i get more reading about ram bro? coz i dunno what is d limit of d ram (using kingmax 667 5-5-5-15)....and also d limit of my proc FSB...currently my multiplier is x15...
