i think u need to load yr dell studio one bios default after you install the processor.
some dell mobo need to do that to enable the new hardware change

It means your overclock is not stable hence you need to increase Vcore or tweak whatever settings required further.

I'm not sure what's wrong as there are so many things which could be at fault. I suggest you read some basic overclocking guides to get some ideas and ask questions if you're not clear of it smile.gif

I'm thinking of overclocking to 4.0Ghz with my E8400. So far I hit 3.6Ghz with 1.225V Vcore, but I didn't really lower it as much as possible. More like I hit a random number and it worked so I stayed with it.

Out of boredom, I tried pushing the bus speed to 450Mhz today. Surprisingly I could load into Windows. But problems came when I tried to stress the CPU. Within 2 minutes of stressing using Everest, the temperature went to 71C. I quickly stopped the stressing.

I'd like to ask if there's anyone here that can recommend me a cooler that's enough to OC a E8400(E0) to 4Ghz. The cooler will have to be able to keep the temperature below 72C for at least 1 hour of Prime95. I have excellent casing ventilation but that's not enough.

Specs:
Core2Duo E8400 E0 Stepping
Asus P5Q SE (P45 Chipset)
KVR DDR2 800Mhz 2x1GB
Palit HD 4850 Sonic
Silverstone Strider ST50F
CM690 with 7x70cfm fans + a small fan behind the motherboard

Current temps @3.6Ghz
Idle:40C
Full load: 54C (1hour Everest stability test)

I think 850W is good enough, unless you're using SLI or CrossFire. (based on most recommendation of using 1000W psu for SLI)

I'm using 700W and OCed my i7 920 to a stable 3.8GHz. I'm trying for 4GHz.

After an hour of stress test using Prime95

Well, if your rig just a standard i7 with no power hungry equipments and hardwares, a true power 400W PSU with 8 pin ATX power can make ur i7 go 4.5GHz anytime, biggrin.gif
