Hi Guys,

I need some help here. I decided to overclock my q6600 proc today. I've set FSB to 333mHz and multiplier at x9. It's running at 3.00GhZ now. All on stock FAN. CPU temp is at 55c at the moment. What i'm worried is, it seems to be stable now but the CPU temp 55c is it ok?? I read, Intel stock fan for q6600 could handle 63c. I've attached my settings. I need some guidance here. thanx in advance.

maybe wrong place to post but really need help about my simple pc

proc : Intel Celeron Dual Core 2.5ghz fsb 800
ram : Kingston DDR2 800 2gb
mobo : Asrock G31-MS

the problem is, just like the mobo won't detect the ram as 800mhz, I only got 667 when i check on mybios. FYI this mobo got boot failure guard if anycase it doesn't stable.

Sorry for asking it here, hope could helping

juz do trial n error lor  biggrin.gif ....try increase until hit d wall? tats what i heard they always did...i gotta go bac n test whats is the problem of my oc...since 3.15 also cant...and 3.1 also got problem at prime test...haiz...i thought suppose all at default at least can increase few mhz..but turn out i was wrong  cry.gif

and also, when u increase d bus speed, d ram speed will auto increase right? coz im using 333mhz for d ram...i try tighter timing n it cant boot to POST lol...
u know where can i get more reading about ram bro? coz i dunno what is d limit of d ram (using kingmax 667 5-5-5-15)....and also d limit of my proc FSB...currently my multiplier is x15...
*

honestly it is much harder to overclock that pentium D compared to the 2.66GHz ones. biggrin.gif Since the 2.66ghz got low fsb setting high multiplier x20 tongue.gif My pentium D is also the old tech process 90nm ones.

FSB/RAM is definitely the one stopping you. I dont like OC my RAM and I didnt do any research on it, so u might wanna ask other here. I tot you can adjust the Ram ratio so it wont overclock pass 667.

ok I after a while I tried again on my CPU.

Got once I tried b4 Overclock to 3.5Ghz @ default clock (1.2v), playing CPU heavy use game(game that use heavy cpu) . I actually load the game 3 times. (*means same game open 3 and run triple at same time) After a while got some minor issue text artifact issue(the game graphic is rendered by CPU lol). but still stable didnt crash yet.

another time push to 3.6GHz @ default clock, able to boot to window, even play that game, but crash after a while.

According to tomshardware with increase voltage, this thing can push to 4.1GHz, default voltage @ 1.4v can get 3.6GHz (I dont know why their is 1.4, mine is 1.2v)

So conclusion is pentium D is not a bad overclocker, It is either Ram issue, or FSB or bad motherboard.

I am sticking back to 3.33GHz @ 333 FSB as I am happy to run it with FSB/Ram sync with my 667Mhz together tongue.gif

Guys, I don't know what the hell is wrong with my rig as I OC it.
The problem is it started to crash or hangs everytime I started to play games or the GPU is on the load.
It happened b4 but I thought it was probably bcoz of the PSU.
So I changed it. OC it again and it was running ok....until today, it started again. Now had to stock everything, again. sad.gif
You guys have any idea on this?

My rig spec:
-Intel C2Q Q6600 @ 3.0GHz (now stock again @ 2.4GHz)
-Corsair DDR2 Gaming RAM @ 800MHz
-MSI P7N SLI Platinum Mobo
-XFX GTS 250 @ stock.
-CM GX650W PSU

thanks..

79-74-76-76
is this acceptable as i c at intel web site normal temp 4 q9450 is within 71.4
if not i think my quadie is quite hot...huhuhu

ur proc max multiplier is 11.. ur fsb is 266mhz
should be able to reach 3.2ghz-3.3ghz with stock cooler..
change to cm hyper 212+ should be able to oc to 4Ghz stable
however u need to play with vcore + dram:fsb ratio 1.. just dont go too high on ram clock

u need to increase the fsb frequency.. try at 276mhz first, boot & run prime, then repeat with 286, then 300.. make sure ur ram mhz goes anywhere between 750-850mhz (adjust the fsb:ram ratio)

ori hsf should be able to support 3.3ghz.. (400mhz increase).. more than that i wouldnt dare..

yes definitely in bios.. got few guide inside LYN itself.. pls search..
i suggest u read lot about fsb freq, fsb:dram ratio, vcore, dram voltage, nb voltage, fsb termination voltage, cpu pll voltage and the list goes on.. dont just go oc if u're new else ur pc will die..

best way is to find someone with similar setup as yours (cpu, mobo, ram) who already oc'ed and make it as ur guideline..

The settings r based on tis article
Overclocking Intel i3

Just want to ask sifus here whether my settings correct anot.I didnt change the voltage.I manage to boot into the windows and my pc is still running..but i am not sure whether it's safe anot since i am new to overclocking. Please help me out
