Hi Georgene n Crappo,

Thnx for ur response.
So means they can lower my salary anytime without my consent?  shocking.gif  cry.gif Whenever they r not doin wel. OMG!
Is dis MVC practice common in Sg?  unsure.gif
N oso,wud like to knw hw do i run tax? unsure.gif

Not sure about the "without your consent" but most business would at least inform you about any deductions to your salary if the financial situation is going down the toilet. I suggest you clarify with either HR or management in the event that MVC kicks in, would they cut your salary without your consent and on what factors would influence the company to implement MVC.

Here's the tax rates table taken from IRAS singapore

Common room means a bedroom in an apartment (usually a govt type which we called HDB flats) without attached toilet.

common room at least could stay 3 people in a room.

beside looking at the salary, u also have to consider the political stability, inflation rate, increment, 'safety', career and promotion.
I will prefer option (B).... political stability (stable), inflation rate (4~6%), increment (4~12%), 'safety' (low criminal rate), career (most of the mnc r regional hq/brighter future) and promotion (oh ya, u have work double hard as u r earning double currency + other competitors from china, india, and phillipines).

If u love to travel a lot, option (B) is a good-to-go and you wouldn't feel pain when u travel to Aus/Japan/US/Euro/etc...^^

The real issue when it comes to question working in Malaysia or Singapore, is standard of living vs quality of life. Of course this does not apply to expatriates.

I think its good to venture away from ones comfort zone especially at young age to gain more working and life experience. A good pay can be a good motivating factor to work harder and ignore some of the miseries of being away from home. But I doubt I will be staying in Singapore for good in my life - looking at somewhere less stressful , for that case Malaysia is wonderful.

Depends.....if the landlord is staying in the same HDB unit...they'll normally specify if that room is for single/couple sharing or more...but to me..i will get 1 to room for myself...because i would like to have some privacy....work/outside no privacy....

MNCs typically have no MVC. But every time there's a restructuring... you better watch your back. I've been in my company 11 years... gone through 2 M&As and 2 CEO changes. Right this minute, my biz unit has merged with another 3 biz units. All of a sudden, we have 4 people in every job/role... although now the unit is now large enough to support 2, maybe 3... but definitely not 4.

Dont mind sharing your dark experience ? It helps me and the rest to mentally prepare for the worst XD

I worked overseas for two years and experience racist remarks and criticism from colleagues and managers that I felt unfair. I like the job, just can't handle the environment although it got slightly better after I completed my first project. It was a good experience but I gave up , returned to Malaysia and worked in Malaysia for four months in the same industry but in a much bigger company. The work atmosphere is so different - so relaxing but boring at the same time, insufficient work to cover my 9 hours in the office, and very little career prospect. I have decided to move on to another job within the first month of working in that company.

well my story is quite diffrnt frm urs actually. My 6 years was in canada during my study period. Its canada so racism is not an issue. Its there ofcoz but not as bad as in other country like russia n german (got friends study there). The people r okay, friendly and very helpfull once u break d ice. Wut bother me is the weather... shakehead.gif ..i cant stand it..oways catch a cold..n during winter its cloudy all months!! Its effect ur mood n mindset..depressing...seriously, i almost dropout of college in my 3rd year of study..luckly got gf and no jakim brows.gif survived!! Been to LA for the lakers game a few times..the pizza cashier one up my size coz she tought i'm a loco.. tongue.gif well..the main reason i wont go out of malaysia again - food n weather (my body just not up for it). Hey, u gotta be some big shot genius!! Can quit job as u like n still got another job at bigger company... notworthy.gif

i think i'm out of the topic..sorry TS!!! Singapore got racist meh? Nvr been there.. hmm.gif
