Haha...if you grow up in KL, Canto is the way to go.  However, it seems there are a lot of Singaporean I knew speaks Cantonese especially in Bishan.  You can hear those aunties speaks Cantonese when ordering food.  How do you normally spend your weekend in JB?
*
Chances are they might be msians 10yrs back. That being said their parents are definitely "malayans" 60yrs back.

Watch drama, play dota or come into SG find my aunty lor. And go back KL since i got car and can drive back anytime. hahaha.

Bishan area speak canto? not sure la but my aunty stay in Bishan and we speak canto (coz we are Malaysian). Even my uncle is a Singaporean and i speak canto with him coz used to it already since very young when i still in KL, we speak canto to each other. going out in SG is very expensive, and if we wanna go window shopping, SG shopping complex doesn't provide any bench for people to sit unlike Malaysia. So its not that comfortable as well.
*
Probably the aunties that l7awesome heard in Bishan is actually urs!!!

Hi everyone,

Was curious, do u guys go out for lunch everyday wiv ur workmates? As u knw itz not cheap to eat xpecially for those workin in a foreign land.V nid to save n etc.But sumtimes hvta entertain ur colleagues oso as u certainly dun wanna be called outcast.
Sumtimes itz unavoidable, mind to shed sum lights on dis?
Thnx!
*
Try to join at least once a week. sometimes u can ask them wer they plan to go for lunch. then u can assess roughly wat is the prices there.
after a while they will understand ur finanacial limitation/kiamsap. singaporeans are themselves kiamsap as well. Singapore is a savings nation. so dun worry about giving the impression ur very kiamsap. Just tell them u wana blend into the high savings nation.

u do mean the diff will be smaller Mon to Fri rite?
i think diff will bebigger fri to Sun, or even Mon. This is the days where tourist is around and some locals dedicate time to go change money.
Same money changer as in Msia

no no bro, just rooms.

anyway, is there any particular day of newspaper which carry the most classifieds on rooms rental?

alright. Thanks for the advice!

Sat NST.

But no point calling 2-3 days in advance. They will only entertain if u wana c the unit today or at most tomorow.

Internet not really accurate. most of the time i call, they say already rented out, even on the same day they advertised!!

U can use internet as reference of the prices.
But to really rent, u have to do ur home work fast erly in the morning and and start calling around 10-11am. just like playing the stock mkt.
If u say wana start renting next 2 months they won't entertain oso, cos owner won't hold for u extra months.

It may be good also u come down few weeks before u really wana rent to get a feel of how does HDB flats and rooms looks like, and pretend u wana rent it immediately. then find some excuse to say u dun like the place.

Hi all,
I have questions as I will be driving to Singapore this coming Friday. I expect to be at the Causeway at about 11pm Friday.

1) Do you think it's jam on 11pm Friday at Causeway (or should i use 2nd link?)
2) Do i Need to pay ERP on Sat, Sunday and Monday (Public Holiday)?
3) Where is the nearest Mobil/Esso before entering Singapore at Causeway?

Sorry for the many questions, first time driving into the Republic.
*
Do remember to buy the VEP card. It's illegal to drive in without it.
The VEP counter can be easily missed. I missed it once went in and drive back out to johor and come in again.
The counter is just immediately after they passport verifying counter but before the car inspection.

Hi Guys,

Anybody is working / worked with Keppel Fels? or at least experienced with their employment process?

How long usually do they take to officially come out with an offer?

I was interviewed in mid of March..2 weeks aft the interview I did call them to check the status of my application and the HR personnel told me that they are very keen to hire me and currently (at that time) is seeking for approval from the management for my remuneration package and will inform me once approved.

After waited for another 2 weeks I've called them again and the same person told me that he haven't get the approval from the management and will update once received.

And now it's already end of Apr and I havent rcvd any update yet. I'm quite reluctant to call again as I hv called more than once which may give wrong impression to the employer - a desperate guy sweat.gif , but that's not the point.

The point is, is it normal for keppel (specifically) or singapore company (generally) to take such a long duration to come out with an official offer to a Malaysian?

Anybody have similar experience which can be shared here?

Much appreciated.
Thanks.
*
I would call them but maybe 3-4 weeks, instead of 2 weeks.
Sometimes it works like a reminder and also it shows ur interest to follow up and to go get wat u want. HR staff sometimes dun really care about the urgency, since their perfromance is not measured on whether ur hired or not.
Yes, it may sound desparate, but if they take advantage of it and offer low salary, then u still can reconsider and negotiate.
Of course at the same time apply other job lar.

Hi i wanted to ask about filling up my PR application form.
I've studied ACCA full time in Malaysia and went for classes from several different colleges offering ACCA subjects.

I'm I considered distance learning?

For institution do I put ACCA or the colleges that provide the course for the subject? The problem is I attended different colleges for different subjects.

Location: Is it UK or Malaysia?

Thanks.

Bishan goes to pap.

All eyes at aljunied now. Pap managed to win 2/3 of parliament seats already.
*
PAP still rules, but 4 lesser seats in parliment. Coupled with NCMP, PAP will have slightly more obstruction in policy making. Good for the citizen, but not sure for the others.

I don't know about india indians in singapore, but in my experience working with the indians in india in my MNC, their concept of exaggeration is way beyond what malaysians are capable of. They've got this ability to talk as if they have superhuman powers but in reality can't deliver. And in concalls if you let them dictate the meeting, it'll be hours of talking and end up with nothing at the end of it.

Of course I'm generalizing from my personal viewpoints, your mileage may vary.
*
Totally the same in Malaysia. I would say it's a reasonable generalisation. But my experience is with local indians, not those from india, which i beliv is worse.

Haven't encounter any yet in SG, as my company with more tahn 100++ employees, doesn't have any (local or foreign)!!!

More specifically, what are the restrictions and loss imposed by all sort of rules and regulations. I'm wondering if it is really worthy to dump big portion of income into loan, to get one private property for investment.
cry.gif Indeed this is the first thing that pops up in my mind.
*
one of the restriction is u will never be able to buy a HDB. But to buy HDB u nid to have a PR/citizen spouse.
So if u not married or getting maried within the next 3-5yrs, dun bother about HDB restriction.

It's ALMOST a no brainer for a HDB,compare to renting it. But to buy private, provided u find a good deal. If the rental yields more than 5% I would say worth it. Below 3% no. In between, go figure. Bare in mind SG interest is dam low.

Did you do your EP application when you were already working? From what I've read it seems that I have to get a few documents from my employer first then only I can apply for it.

Is it preferable to work there first then get the EP?
*
Normally u get an approval in principal from MOM.
Then wen u reach here u nid to apply/procees for the EP card, then u will exchange it with the visitor White form that u fill up.

anyone from banking here? typically how much exp does a avp need?
*
generally, front office lesser no. of yrs, while back office more yrs of exp.
FO meets client so are relatively easier to be given better title, for obvious reason
but bear in mind same title can have VERY different salary range, even both are FO or BO.
u can have one AVP report to another, officially.
ALso some AVP have AVP1 2 3 4 5......., which is not mentioned out.
