Any car will be the same... With ABS may help some, but not all the time....
That's why, follow the speed limits are the safest way....

So pumping the brakes is the only way to stop the car effectively?  hmm.gif
*
i u press E. brake n ur car still sliding (got sound) = ur tyre tread worn off...
if u press E.brake ur car still moving (no sound) = possible, ur brake pad worn off, u press not enough, ur brake pump is dirty, change/flushing ur oil to dot4

VDO.... As far as I know, only the speedo are easy to fail.... As for radiator issue, whenever it shows high, do check your radiator fan.
*
Last weekend, return home, temperature gauge max again. Park my car in front of the house, open hood. I can see the fan is working (off and on couple of times). No water leak from radiator, reservoir also 60% full.

Let it run another 5 min at max gauge, still nothing. hmm.gif Switch off and went inside. doh.gif

Today while driving, it slowly creep up to 90% max, then hang there for few minutes, then immediate within split second, it drop back to middle (~45%) doh.gif Still continue to drive for the next 10-15 minutes.

go flush ur enginecooling system, change ur pipe line this almost might cause by dirt and rust build inside ur car. service ur radiator n etc... bcoz the temp meter is the hardest to spoil comparing to others meter on d dashboard.

Radiator also need servicing. nod.gif

I serviced my ol eg ferio radiator as I was going for a long journey drive last time. Replaced the top plastic cover as it was leaking as the plastic cover harden and cracked. When they push water into the radiator, a lot of holes clogged.

After cleaning, I also replaced the radiator coolant. Only then I confident to drive for 3 days journey.

How often do we need to service radiator ? e.g. once/twice a year ?

The water inside, is not rusty. Still greenish and transparent-water (open radiator cap to look)

My foreman says wira yr2000 (white VDO) is common problem with temperature gauge hmm.gif

I'm sceptical, to find the true reason and fix/repair it.

Make it this way to keep your car in tip top condition at any 1 time. This is what I like on Wira, easy to maintain and cheap :
flush your radiator once every 30000km which you can do it at once with flushing brake fluid, power steering flush....
Actually this 30000km is a general figure only... But no harm to do it...

again i said, ur internal engine might build up d rust.. u cant c it... so the best is to service ur engine cooling system...
i normal doing that around 50k...

your symptom is almost like mine. check ur alternator. maybe your alternator is not supplying enough current when the fan are running. i went thru the hard way to got things right. first suspect radiator, but after open it up. nothing stuck there. wasted money to open it up. change thermostat too. almost going to change water pump then went for a autogauge water temp (just to be sure that the temp is working). but in the end, on highway, the alternator suddenly give up and gave me a 'reactor meltdown'. destroyed my battery. burned all the bulbs (coz driving at night), and a few fuses. tuition fee, rm650. this price is excluding open up the radiator, change thermostat, and a blown amplifier!!!. sakit gila.. vmad.gif

the next thing i did was install a voltmeter.

emmm, i agree with others that need to keep a good distance (something like the 2 second theory at least)...
then from mechanical side, should always keep the stuffs (tyre, brake pad, brake fluid, hampalang...) at good working condition...

Back in 1995, the Protong Wira was advertised with "ABS" for 1.5L (which unfortunately my dad bought), and you know what, the "ABS" that Protong written stands for "Advanced Braking System", not "Antilock Braking System".... hahaha... so if you are so lucky to get Protong Wira's "ABS" then need to figure out how to improve the car braking...
If money no problem, then surely change to better suspension (at least absorbers), brake fluid (DOT4), brake pads (better ones), brake hose (like Pro RS, but i haven't change yet), rear disc brake (if 1.5L, rear is drum, but i haven't change yet), tyre with better grip, have good tyre alignment, and then most importantly --> keep the distance from those "suspicious" cars (front and including side ones)...

anyway, talk is always easier than do... so just wish you luck... i need some for myself as well... smile.gif
