I have 2 HDD partition on my PC, C & D. I installed Windows XP on partition C, and Windows Vista on partition D.

After using Vista for a week and testing all my favorite apps to make sure they work on Vista, I want to uninstall XP and use Vista solely, but I can’t find any option to uninstall Vista (either from Vista itself or from XP). The only solution I can think of is to delete the Vista’s folder in partition D, tried that, and it won’t work. I can’t delete that folder at all. I was prompted with this error:

user posted image

Tried deleting the folder in Safe mode and even using Unlocker and I got the same error.

Is there any way I can uninstall Vista / delete Vista folder without reformatting partition D? I have lots of other files in that partition and there’s no easy way for me to backup them other than burning them all in DVDs which will cost me lots of time & money.

Hmm, try installing Vista in C: and then try to delete the Vista directory in D:. If all is lost, backup the data in D: and reformat the HDD

Have the same problem before. WinXP in C:, and Vista in D:. Fortunately, I have 2 HD. So I transfer all my file into the 2nd HD. Really tedious job. I also tried any possible way like you do to deleted the vista file, but failed. The only way is to format again like I did.

sol.1
boot vista installer from DVD, reinstall vista by clean install into the empty C: partition. Dont touch the D: in the setup procedure. And if it boot correctly, then you can move the files from drive D, then delete the vista files in drive D.

sol.2
format ur XP partition, and move ur file from D to C after that. Boot from vista DVD, clean install into the either partition, (do not choose to format)

btw, if you CLEAN install Vista after XP, you can just format the XP partition, it will automatically boot into vista, if its not, just insert vista DVD and ask for automatic error recovery

I just installed vista and got Aero to run with 512 ram. Getting a WEI for ram of 2.9. You'll probably just need a decent video card to run aero.

Yep. 512MB can run aero. Check my HTPC rig. Previously only 512MB RAM when i installed VISTA. As long as you have a DX9 card u can it.

Playing games with Creative card under VISTA sucks. I've bought a pair of headphones recently, can clearly hear the difference under XP and VISTA. Without EAX and with EAX is a lot of difference when using headphone, not so much when using speakers though.

There's a "Alchemy" program which supposely allow some games to run EAX under VISTA. I've tried it, some improvement but it's still better under XP.

Guys, I just wanna ask if I should choose Vista Home Premium Basic or Aero. My PC's memory is 1G but my video card is the Intel Graphic Accelerator x3000.

(><) I can't afford to upgrade my video card at the moment but if I choose Aero, would the PC lag when I use it? My friend said it would cause the PC to lag if I open several applications simultaneously.

I've already read from previous posts that Aero can run on 512MB memory, so I have no worries for that, only for the video card.

Advice please?

That's the price you pay when you get a "Creative" product. Their driver support is one of the worst in the world. They can't even release an official X-Fi driver for Vista after so long.

<>Does mixing Windows XP and Windows Vista on a network matter?

Vista uses a new technology called Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD), which is something that Windows XP does not have. If you want Windows XP to show up on the Network Map, you'll need to download the update that Microsoft has available.

Here's how to install the update:

To install the LLTD Responder to a computer running Windows XP

1. Download the update for Windows XP from: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=70582

2. Run the update on the computer running Windows XP that you want to appear on the Network Map.

3. On the Software Update Installation Wizard, click Next.

4. On the License Agreement page, read the license agreement, and if you agree to the terms, click I Agree, and then click Next.

5. On the final page of the wizard, click Finish.

6. If you are prompted to do so, restart your computer.

7. After your computer running Windows XP restarts, generate a new Network Map with the computer running Windows XP included.
