well, there are numerous platforms out there. some of the more popular ones include windows, mac, linux and so on. for architecture, there are two dominant ones, windows and mac. REVIT is exclusively for windows (PC), while archicad is available for both systems. if u're a PC based person, u have two choices, but if u're a mac person, then u can only rely on archicad.

i. it's safe to say that a diploma will lead to 2nd year of a BSc Arch, nothing more.
ii. BSc Architecture is equivalent to LAM Part 1. but u must check if it's accredited or not. if u're talking about IPTS, i can easily tell u that they are not.

i. well, degree is always better than diploma. foundation is just a way to get urself to do the degree much fasger.

ii. part 3 is not necessary to open ur own firm. but if u want to be in full charge of the practice, YES. it doesnt really take long. some people have done it within 3-4 years after graduating. others took 20 years.

iii. diploma is about RM1400-RM1800 depending on the size and location of the firm. degree part 1 is about RM1600-RM2000. part 2 is around RM2400.

not sure about QS.

i. at the moment, only IPTAs host accredited degree. however, refer below:

ii. u mean LAM part 3? yeah.

LAM part 2, on the other hand, is still a degree (bachelor's or masters).

iii. well, u can, but u have to do it outside office hours. some firms even outlaw the practice due to conflict of interest etc.

breaking news:

An IPTS in Klang Valley have become the first IPTS to be accredited with LAM Part 1. The accreditation is conditional due to some discrepancies and they have 2 years to remedy it. But it's the first time that a private school EVER to be accredited. I'm sure students will now flock to the IPTS.

Official announcements will be made soon.

i. to open ur own firm, u need MONEY. not part 3 wink.gif. to practice, now that's a different matter. to work overseas, u must first ensure that ur degree is recognized in that country. if it is, then u should opt to take their parts 1, 2 and/or 3 (or equivalent). if they specifically tell u that u dont have to, then yeay, be happy.

ii. u need a degree or masters that carries a LAM part 2. refer to 1st page.

Yes, you can if you can get a Part 3 holder to back you up.
Part 3 is not everything.
When you open your own firm, it's like starting any business.
The crucial thing is getting the business - getting enough jobs and good paying clients to make it profitable.
To establish the contacts and network, you have to work for a period of time with architectural firms.

tehtmc is the best person here to answer that question.

Hi. It's been more than a year since I last post in this thread. Hello there uncle Azarimy.

I just got my conditional offer to do Architecture at the University of Sheffield for 2012 admission and I think I remember reading somewhere last year that you are from Sheffield too.

My aimed university was Bath but I was rejected. So uncle, any tips and expectations on Architecture course at Sheffield?
