IluvProton :

Yeah... working in the government sector does has its perks... but, it has its own sets of limitation too. If you have a competitive spirit, its better for you to enter the private workforce. The jobs are usually handsomely paid and challenging at the same time.

hi astro guy,

i heard petronas paying much better but im still not so sure if the information provided by u is accurate. no offence but actually im also interested to know where u got your information from.

looking at your experience 14 years, and u shud be almost an E3 already (equivalent to manager as what is stated by astroguy), thus with your experience and position, you should be getting almost 20k.
"manager - 10 - 15 years exp- up to Rm 20k per month"

With the benefits available and same value of salary, dont u feel regret for leaving maju jaya?

which discipline are you in? i think u must be quite good to be a lead at 35+ I guess your age.
share with me your thoughts.

nice sharing.

QUOTE(Astroguy @ Jun 3 2011, 11:20 PM)
hi guys,

i am sharing my 14 yrs experience in oil & gas industry in Malaysia
current estimated market rates as follows:-

Petronas/ Oil Company
fresh grade: starting salary at about RM4,300 per month
medical - unlimited
housing loan
car loan
yearly company bonus: 2 to 5 months salary per year (non fixed)
performance bonus: between 4-6 months salary - of coz depends on performance la
potential overseas assignment - up to USD500 per day allowance - depends on location i.e.. Turkmenistan or Iraq etc.
work culture: - more efficient than government - but still far behind compared to super major oil co i.e. shell/exxon/bp

estimated 2011 salary range:
senior executive - 5 to 10 yrs exp- up to Rm10k  per month
manager - 10 - 15 years exp- up to Rm 20k per month
senior manager - 15 to 20 years exp- up to Rm30k per month
general manager - 20- 25 years exp- up to Rm40k per month

Petronas salary used to very low, but now very competitive compared so super major oil co.
but is it better (overall) condition, because it is still a GLC, unlike most international co, you can almost never get retrenched or sacked even if you are super low performance in petronas
then you can bragged yourself as being the wealthiest & only malaysia company in 500 fortune list.

but too bad when they are overseas, their Local reputation could not help them to perform well & they are generally looked down by almost all international oil companies and also major international contractors.

how do i know all this? because i used to work for petronas for 10 years, and now i am working with an international oil & gas consultant with several overseas assignment in middle east & europe.

Ya, the moment you meet a boss that is able to appreciate your skills and potential, it's time to stop.

Although my salary increment was getting more each year, it is not until the 4th year in the company that I am given more responsibility.

Besides being capable in your own field, one must take note of how he/she presents himself/herself professionally, emotionally through conversation, action, fashion, facial expression and even the tidiness of your working place. You must also ask yourself when people look at you, how confidence they will feel if they assign you certain task. If you meet a doctor that does not dress neatly, dirty and looks half asleep, your confidence towards him would be greatly affected. It is the same thing how others would look at us.

If you feel tired, I would suggest that you could go for holiday. Forget about your works and clear your mind. When you are recharged, think about your strategy for the future and how you plan to improve yourself.

However, one important thing is don't always think about earning money only. We must all learn how to multiply the money we earn. Equipped yourself with financial knowledge, practise it and you will be halfway to financial freedom.

Let's work hard together.

40% increment is a lot. Should just take it if you are up for a challenge. After doing the asst. prod manager for 1 year if they do not promote you again with a large sum of increment, can always jump to other company smile.gif

By then you will be looking for a prod manager position.

Somehow I don't think it's underpaid or not, it's which industry you are in that matter. For what I know, shopping mall's pay is always at lower range.
