I dont know about you people encouraging youngsters out there.

Myself would nt say things like this to youngsters. Everyone knows the fact working is not easy, but at least letting youngsters begin the career and learn all the way with confidence. Sharing experience to youngsters is fine, but depressing them at 1st before they even have the chance to experience it. . I think that is not quite a right way.

Anyway, that's just my thought, again I do not mean to challenge anyone in here.
*
Indeed.

I don't know why people like to share it in a harsh tone. Can't it be an active way to coach one another? Why does it must be a harsh tone? I know some people would take advantage of you if you are not firm in your view but this doesn't suit every one.

I admire those "60s" and "70s" people's professionalism, but for sure I will not take them as example to improve my interpersonal skill.

One who can't adapt different communications skills to different people isn't that great in my eyes at all.

@sunofabeach
Malaysia cannot be compared to wherever you are (I think UK ? mentioned in earlier post?). Working in Asian related countries, you are always expected to work hard (Our auditors in Malaysia sometimes work 70 - 80 hours a week or more).

Politics exist everywhere even in the country you are in right now (maybe not so extreme but it still exists). It depends on how smartly you play the game. Hence why some people say street smarts is more important than book smarts.

Not all industries are that scary though.
*
Malaysia can't compare to european countries, doesn't mean Malaysia culture is RIGHT.

Don't you think giving someone guidance in an active way would show better impact on him? Active guidance is always look at the strengths and talents one has, there then the person will gain confidence and acknowledgement of themselves. Sad to say, what I have seen here are all about passive comment, which is maximizing the "mistakes" and "weaknesses" one has. You want others to point out your every mistake and not to look at what brilliant jobs you have done? Why always view a life from a passive angle?

Exactly. My monthly allowance for parents already RM450, if I earn only RM1200, i really don't know how to survive.

But i'm curious to know how does his mother spend the RM1200 every month.

QUOTE(heartbreaked @ May 23 2011, 08:43 PM)
Well, all the projects that I've done was all about programming, I don't like programming so much as it was very exhausted , I wonder how many of my brain cells already dead, and yet my pay is not equivalent to what I've contribute. FYI, there is no feedback from my application because all the jobs that I applied not related to programming. I decided to stick back to what I majored in my degree course (Network & System). Perhaps my experience in programming does not help me in applying job related network or system.

As I joined this company, they told me I just need to do support for planner and production site only. They even told me I will have the opportunity to handle company server and network. That's why I'm agree to work with them and was so naive at that time .But all these are scams to attract me in with all sorts of hu ha. After I was confirmed as permanent staff, my scope of work getting broader, from planner -> production -> warehouse + programming for new project. Oh my...really work like cow.

Yup, my salary still RM2.1K, my department head is a very stingy guy, he likes to help my company saving a lot of money, feel like all the company assets are belong to him, that is why I'm hired with such a low pay as programmer. My bonus not even 3/4 of my salary, and the reason is I'm still a freshie, what to do, freshie is just a freshie  sad.gif , u cannot outperformed the senior.

All the project assigned to me mostly done by myself, only get an advise from senior instead of help. Maybe they feel threaten as I'm a fast learner and everyone is manning their own bowl of rice, who will be so kind to help and get kicked at the end, that is the reality and I learned from it. But my patience do earn me an experience in programming which is not my field of expert.
*
I feel you.

I'm facing the similar situation - my boss doesn't willing to promote me nor give me bonus which equivalent to my ability, it's because throughout her experience, she hasn't hired a person like for my position, I'm the first who is able to 'suffer' and 'persevere', and able to handle 1 session of meeting with group companies, plus all other presentations in corporate meetings. This is according to what my colleagues who have been worked there for long time, I'm not boasting about myself. laugh.gif

My pay doesn't equivalent to my capability, too. smile.gif

What I can tell you is that don't give up in looking for greater opportunity. As long as you have the capability, you deserve better. One day you will find a job that pays you better. smile.gif

Haha, I would put it as extremely rare. I have a friend who graduated from MIT 3 years ago, indeed a gifted programmer as he  graduated as one of the top in his class and his starting pay in a consultant firm in KL is around 4.5k. He is 28 years old now and his earning is around 8k which is still way behind those LYN "gifted" member who just work for 2 years and can command 10 k salary. Some might argue that degree does not means anything but let me tell u this, my friend is one of the most hardworking and smartest guy I have ever seen and he also good in socializing. So I see him as a very successful guy for manage to achieve 8k salary within 3 years but when I checked LYN forum, I got a shock of my life with all those NUMBERS.
*
Did you ask him how does he bargain such a high salary from his employers? I'm curious to know, and wish to learn from him.... smile.gif

Thanks.

Sometime fact and reality just won't let us to remain innocent and naive.
Feeling of underpaid in a way can drive them to achieve further in their work. But ppl usually go for job hopping.
ps: I am not a bro la. haha smile.gif
*
You seem to imply that job hopping isn't the way to go for higher pay? No offence. smile.gif

I actually support job hopping in certaine extend. Some companies can't pay that range of salary due to its company structure, can't blame them; some companies have certain policy which is an employee has to work there for at least 4 years in order to be promoted from junior exec to senior exec, even though you get increment about RM100+ per year but the case is, 6% annual inflation doesn't wait for your salary increment, don't forgot if you get 10% increment, each and every thing you use/eat/drink daily increase by 6% also.

When the company can't go align with your expectation, job hop is another option to go.
