Where are you studying now? Based on your description, it should be countries with stronger currencies eg Oz, UK? IMHO, I think is a good idea for you to work overseas a few years to gain some experience, provided that you can get a job there which is quite a daunting task for foreign graduates. If  you are happy with the life there, you can always opt to settle down there permanently.

However, if you decide to return to Msia after a few years, whether Msia employers will offer you a package which equals your overseas salary after conversion, I think it will be a 'good to have' thing. It is possible but difficult unless your skillset/experience is so valuable that no one in Msia has it.

Hi naleh33 thanks for the opinion. I'm in the UK right now and you're quite right getting a job here is absolutely daunting (esp since they scrapped the PSW visa this year) but I am thinking if I really want to stay I can probably start with an internship. Yeah i've always thought that there is no intrinsic value in having worked overseas per se until my friend told me about the employers trying to match salaries thingy... so I just thought I'd ask around. smile.gif

Yup i'm probably gonna do that... the only thing that's making me think twice is the insane cost of living in london. And sadly many internships are unpaid. sad.gif

I am surprised actually that you said most internship in UK is unpaid.

As far as I am aware, internships/ work placement (being called this in UK usually) are paying £12k - £18k per annum. I was paid £15.5k when I was doing mine last year. It's hard to believe that unpaid internships exist in UK blink.gif

Are you currently attach to any company? If not working, better take the opportunity rather than jobless.

Given the current economy, internships that don't pay are getting more and more common. But there should still be plenty of internships that pay well.

Hi all, from what I know, usually 20-30% is reasonable to consider for a job offer. If I'm asking for 40% will it be too high? I believe I'm currently underpaid.

Thanks.

Ask around, do some research. Usually there is a standard range company pay for different positions. Unless you are severely underpay (small local firm to mnc) or the job you are applying for is higher up the ladder (Team leader to manager) else 40% is quite unlikely.
