Whoa! I didn't know that lowyat has something like this. Anyhoo here is mine.

Job Title : Quality Reliability Engineer (basically is what QA did)
Job Desciption : Quality monitoring, controlling + dealing with customers.
Years spent in company : Just joined
Company : Local Company (Ipoh) HOMETOWN
Industry : Semiconductor
Tenure : permanent
Employment Level : Engineer 1 (still under probation)
Experience before joining : None
Salary : RM 2.5k (the same for 1st class deg)

I have two more offers from Penang based company.

Just wanna share with u mine

Job Title : Equipment Engineer (Laser mark specifically)
Job Desciption : Maintained & Process-wise thingy for laser mark/branding process
Years spent in company : almost 1 years
Company : Sub-con/MNC
Industry : Semiconductor
Tenure : permanent
Employment Level : Engineer 1
Experience before joining : 0.5 year in OEM Semicon & 2 years in R&D division - MNC finished good production
Salary : RM3.3k
Benefits : Std, medical, epf etc. 1 month contractual bonus + performance bonus

Working is OK but due to nature of subcon world; work pressure is high & long hour working.. (going back average at earliest 8pm, DAILY! required standby & response to email 24/7)

Plus i dont see 5S practically apply here, unless there's cust audit

I dont know if i can stay long enough as now we had a baby in family, working late sometimes is OK, but everyday going back 8~9 pm is hard for me.. T_T

Another pts; As per rumored they hire philipine employee range from tech to Mgr that's salary goes a bit hire than local. e.g.; local engineer salary 2.7k, philipine 3.5~4k. Why ? I dont know

Hawarizmi - RM 3.3K for 3.5yrs of experience would be on the low side... hard to survive in KL.. especially with bb

I'm pretty sure many companies would pay better for people who work more than 12 hrs a day..

Cost of living is higher in Penang compared to Ipoh...
if you factor that in, plus your return trip to your hometown...do u still think the additional 600 is worth it?
u still have to pay rental...
well, there r pros n cons....

That's actually what in my mind also, that's why I choose Ipoh.

I have another question, do you think you can raise your salary to 5-6k in 3 years time. Cause I'm getting an offer to further my studies in PhD.
Most of the PhD holders told me that once you have a PhD (Engineering) your salary will be at least 5-6k even when you are fresh grad without experience.

Thanks alot.

Hi guys,

What would I be looking for a person like me making a jump with 2 years experience from local bank to singaporean bank namely OCBC.

I'm currently grossing RM3.1k. Is a 45-50% jump possible?

Degree yes or no ? I think you are severely underpaid. Fresh grads working in the IT sector command up to RM3.6k basic nowadays (of course, not everyone, but yes it is possible). You have a total of 5 years experience and earning less than them.

I also think that RM3.1k is not enough to live in city. I take many tuition classes as part time, you can do some part time sales. LOL..

Money comes with experience and skills. If you do not have any of those, hopping wont help you. In Malaysia, for most jobs, if you hop that often, you hit a dead end cause you are deemed not loyal
