I disagree.

I have seen an engineer selling insurance, Biotech graduate working as property leasing officer, EE Engineer working as graphic designer etc.

It's not the quality of the course that determine who you are, it's you yourselves that building working experience you're holding today and that mould you to a higher peak in yoru career.

you have your points...

but the truths is, most of well-known company no prefer to hire SPM, diploma level nowadays even though without any working experiences to maintain their company's status level... but only well-known company have bigger room for growth and learning and able to focus on particular tasks rather than working as kuli at small company...

unless u get the experiences from company and establish your own business then may different story...

Disagree completely. If that's the case, then everyone should just work after SPM. Since you are implying that getting the university experience is not important. Can you be an engineer without going to university? Can you do research without graduating from BioTech? If everyone thinks like you there will be no advancement in our society since most ppl will not have the know how to create things. University also act as a platform to shape our thoughts. I am talking about a good university. Not a mediocore technical collage. Of course there are other more lucrative occupation that are not related to the field but it does not mean that everyone will do that.

But you will notice the common denominator is they all have a degree - the content of the degree may not be actually used but the paper helps them get into the door.

Not saying that a university education is a must-have to succeed, plenty of people who didn't go to university become pretty successful. But for 90% of people I would say that going to university makes the path upwards easier.

Problem is the % of plenty you said is how much? 10%? 20%? But I could said nowadays, will less the 5% is sucessful. As currently in the business, education is a must to be success. Life had change compare to 20-30 years ago.

Yes definitely its tougher now without a degree than before. But there are still avenues for people without a degree, such as sales or entrepreneurship, or working in a skilled trade. Plumbers, hawkers, welders can all make a ton of money if they are good. However for climbing up in the corporate world I do agree with you, a degree is a must nowadays...

Not sure if this is the right place.

I'm in IT web dev. 17 month working exp from 3 company.
Holding a degree in IT.

Current salary 2.5k. I saja2 go to a company interview and the interviewer offer me 20% more which is 3k.
What offered to me is it the standard salary for someone with my working exp?

Not that I'm complaining (in fact I am freakin happy laugh.gif ), just wondering nod.gif
