Update: I went into Samsung Malaysia Electronics and got my phone fixed within the hour. It was Heimdall not communicating properly with my phone, thus soft-bricking my phone.

i have done some research and downloaded the tools to unlock it.

if i failed to do, it will become a brick, thus what to do to wake it back ? scaring now.

which modem is good for which carrier? Or are they the same?

just sharing:-
#1) I tested my gps in my journey to kl from tanjung malim. can't lock at all! First zsjpe, then xxjve, then back to zsjpe, then zsjpg. All gives crappy performance!
on my way back home, i flashed xxjpx. And magically, my gps is working! Very fast lock, and 5m accuracy (in tanjung malim) what the shell, man!
NOTE: I always clear GPS data and download XTRA data (using GPS Aids app)

#2) i am getting very poor reception, using celcom uox. No signal and "emergency call only" all the time. I flashed different modems to try to investigate. Actually, the problem is that celcom doesn't provide good 3g service in tanjung malim and I exclusively set my phone to use only 3g. Changed Network Mode to GSM/WCDMA (Auto mode) and voila! Problem solved!

Did you try fasterfix before trying out the GPS?

okay i have my sgs unlocked from 3 button fix

1. Modems good or bad doesn't affect much on GPS performance imo. It affects more on network coverage strength, battery life, etc. Then again, I never had a bad GPS experience.
I stayed the longest with JPP(last time), ZSJPE, and XXJVE(best battery life).

don't know much about modem performance on gps but I did notice slight improvement in gps tracking from JPP --> ZSJPE --> XXJVE. Currently I'm satisfied with XXJVE.
JPX/JPY fared really bad on my phone.

No, Damian kernel does not disable HD but I've weird issue with his kernel. I can't make Video Call. The phone will freeze for a second and reboot. Either call out or in. Can you try that see if your phone does not have this issue?

He did come out with another test kernel with 34+ RAM but I did not test it out yet coz already flashed SOK.

I have tried video call using Fring a few times. It works. You mean 3G video call? Nop, I haven't tried before.

Video Chat App should be ok. Yeah, the 3G video call that's giving me the problem.

im using Simply Galaxy 2.4 now and everything is great.super smooth and almost perfect

but i notice that when i use the camera, it doesnt focus on the subject..previously, on my stock ROM, the camera was excellent..
am i the only one experiencing this?
