hello everyone,

i just connected my phone to my laptop via KIES
and it says that I have an update available

Current firmware version: PDA:JPO / PHONE:JPP / CSC:JP3 (DBT)
Latest firmware version: PDA:JQ3 / PHONE:JPY / CSC:JS2 (DBT)

Im currently on stock ROM,
phone is rooted using z4root and OCLF installed
will these apps in any way interfere with the firmware updating process?

or is it completely safe for me to update?
much help is greatly appreciated, thanx! biggrin.gif

thanx everyone!

im a little skeptical with KIES cuz before this, I had a Samsung Wave and once, i updated it and the phone was bricked..had to go to all the way to Sunway Pyramid Samsung Service Center which has terrible service IMO..

anyway, if i update, all my apps will be retained right? its not like a factory reset or anything right?

sorry peeps for being such a total noob XD

i am familiar with myphoneexplorer because I used it with SE k700i. android manager wifi has more features.
It happens. Samsung only knows how to make beautiful screen and flash disk. They are bad at making software sad.gif Many of us skip kies and download 2.2.1 stock rom and flash with odin or straightaway use custom rom.

If you want to learn, I made a simple diagram/flow chart that you can start with. http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=40561771

wow! this sounds/looks good, will definitely give it a go tomorrow..
right now im just frustrated cuz not only did i fail to update, i disabled my lagfix and now my phone's slower than ever..
zzzz
thanx bro for the help! and thank u to everyone else that helped as well smile.gif

Since the second post is still confusing, this is my attempt at a more complete guide for newbies. A pictorial diagram should be more easy to understand. Please comment and msg me for any mistake.

I have a question. If from stock 2.2 froyo is it compulsory to use odin as recommended by hardcore? Or just use CWM? (of course must rename speedmod kernel zip file to update.zip since that's the limitation of 3e recovery)

1.
What to do before Flashing
Remember that flashing is a dangerous process, be it official means using kies, odin or CWM. It is preferable to use a laptop to prevent soft brick in case of a sudden power cut during flashing. Make sure your phone is fully charges too.

1. Make sure you have 3 button combo working (download and recovery mode). If it isn't, go here for the fix.

2. backup /efs folder. This is to preserve your IMEI number.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

3. Backup
- Phonebook & email: Sync with google.
- apps and data: can use Titanium Backup
- SMS and MMS: can use SMS Backup+ by Jan Berkel

2.
Go to recovery mode. How?
1. Shutdown your phone.
2. Hold volume up, home and power button simultaneously until the screen lit up.
3. Wait till you arrive to the recovery mode.

You'll see whether you have 2e or 3e mode at the top.

4.
- Flashing speedmod kernel will give you 2e recovery mode.
- Follow this link for instruction to install speedmod kernel.

3.
- Go to the sweethoney rom page
- Download either wipe or non-wipe version and store it into your sdcard
- Go to recovery mode. Choose "install zip file from sdcard" and "choose zip from sdcard". Navigate using volume rocker to your file. Use back button to select.
- Confirm the selection.
- Wait for a few minutes and you'll automatically reboot.
- Done. Enjoy your new custom rom!

can anybody help me? im trying to flash to the sweethoney rom
i've done everything on the instructions and have already downloaded the sweethoney zip file
to where do i copy it in my phone?
i've tried pasting it in my internal sdcard, and then used recovery mode
wanted to Choose "install zip file from sdcard" and "choose zip from sdcard"
but couldnt find the zipfile..

help is much appreciated! thanx! biggrin.gif

zumapuma - did u put the zip file at external SD or Internal SD or inside Folder??

Fornaxlife, maybe it just me feeling that my battery drain faster than before. BTW, since u also using DamianGTO, which step are u for the UV?? Might try 1.25 and see the different....
*
i pasted the zip file at the root of internal sd
managed to install it, but im not sure if it worked...

after i pressed reboot, there was the reboot animation and till now, the phone is intermittently vibrating, and sometimes a mouse icon appears on the top left

and then wait for it to boot?
how long should i wait?
and should it vibrate intermittently again?

after that place the djxpe_2 file at PDA also?

I think you used the wrong ROM, what ROM did you use? Certain ROMs will get stucked at boot screen.

i downloaded the Eclair ROM n Froyo ROM on the 1st page of this thread
both couldnt boot
then i tried ta ROM from Samfirmware.com, at least can open recovery mode..but still cant boot
