That will be nice! But, I only want PS2 games on it!! Like FFX, and FFXII

So first thing many will do is to port their PS2 games on a NGP... Especially SE... I am sure the company will be the first to do that... Judging by so many rerelease they had done.. KH migh be in there as well... Oh my... I want to play PS2 games on it..

That enormous OLEG displays screen is just irresistably Drop Dead Gorgeous.

I dont think girls would have much problem with it. Girls may have smaller hand, but not a whole lot shorter fingers .

^

Both of the devices are targetting very different audience, although the 3DS launching price is not cheap at all.

I would imagine Nintendo probably want to target the big crowd of children in primary school bugging their mother to buy it, or casual ladies worker who play NDS while waiting for public transport.

NGP seems to be going for the people looking for l33t gadget, modern techno mostly more affordable layer of audience.

56k watchout.

I think the overall design is pretty good really, eventhough it doesn't appear as sexy as it should be.
But at the end of the day, as long as the system works well.. that's all that matters.

I kinda feel like it's a bit too big for a handheld gaming machine.. But at the same time I love the 5" screen. How I wish they can compress to the sliding design..

Probably it's already next year when it reaches us.
Damn it will be the most powerful handheld machine if it releases in Q2-Q3 2011.

I'm okay with the design however the touchpad design is kinda ehhhh
Playing a game with buttons, analog, touchscreen, motion sensing, man my hand would get so tired lol

great that they got trophy... can show off games liao... game library can increase... but kojima says PS3 game can be on the go oso.. how are they going to do that i wonder? Like play in ps3 halfway have to go out.. then continue on NGP? Then continue on PS3 again.. wow...

I think price will be same as PS3... I am very sure of that....Should be around RM1500.. Almost like buying PS3 with move in garage sales dy..

Backward compatibility dun have.. Digital download will be allot..For those previous UMD one.. So, if you buy UMD ur stuck with PSP3K and lower... And I foresee many remakes..

The PSP that i got now oso can tahan 5 hours max only... So, its good enuff.. Just buy extra battery then problem solve..

Accidental falls... there are alot out there.

after watching the Uncharted video, im more skeptical than ever about the two analog sticks.
i can see them being very obtrusive while the presenter was playing Uncharted :/

having said that, the back touch screen is really cool,IMO biggrin.gif

i can see them being very obtrusive while the presenter was playing Uncharted :/

having said that, the back touch screen is really cool,IMO biggrin.gif
and the gyroscope aiming is awesome! rclxms.gif

yeah..so does the gyroscope aiming of throwing grenades in UC1..the novelties will run out very fast

hardware wise, im pretty satisfied especially on the Games Storage...but kinda afraid the multi input type will be a gimmick just like six-axis does to PS3 sweat.gif

that was using six axis...
with the gyroscope you can literally aim at the enemy by moving the device biggrin.gif

the novelty hasnt worn off yet(been playing a gun game on my itouch with the gyroscope for some time now, love the thing to bits!)

i saw a problem there,

imagine play in the train,
train shaking = body shake = aiming gonna be like sh!t ? laugh.gif

if they make it mandatory, people will get mad(remember LAIR?), if they make it optional, then the tech is kinda useless (again, Analog stick patch for LAIR?)

shaky train...either way you lose precision tongue.gif

analog sticks would be a better choice, but at the end of the day, it's like comparing the Move to the Analog sticks.
analog sticks are probably smoother to use, but the move is way more precise.

same thing here.

Lets be realistic, most children and kids wont be able to afford PSP2.

Even for most of the teenagers dont get thousands to spend wherever they want ,unless they plan to save money for years in which by then PSP3 might have already near the corner.

A portable PS3...

Game studios will release their new games in 2 formats: BluRay disc and "SD" card. So you use BluRay on PS3 and use "SD" card on NGP.

I think Sony will release a PS3 update to let you sync your save games on your PS3 to this NGP. So when you play a game on PS3 and you want to go out, just save your game and sync it to NGP. Then continue to play on NGP.

Even better is to let you save your game in PS3 to an online server. Then from your NGP, load the game from that online server and continue.

Uncharted
QUOTE
While the game looks like it's a port of the first Uncharted, the game is actually a brand new title. Thus, it has new features, like the ability to have Drake snap photos. There is a camera icon on the screen that can be pressed, bringing up photo mode. The input for photo mode uses the gyroscope, so moving the NGP around gives a different view of the landscape. Pinching the screen causes it to zoom, and touching it snaps a photo. There is also a first-person sniper mode. I picked up a sniper rifle in the game, and clicking the left shoulder button took me into sniper mode. Aiming, however, was then gyroscope-controlled. Sony seemed unsure if aiming in sniper mode would only be gyroscope-controlled as the game is still in development.

Seriously, if this is the price, or if its more than $400-$500... Sony is going to have to put the PSP NGP in a science museum beside the real NGP and get pawned by Nintendo instead....just like sega saturn... lol.. rclxms.gif

However, I refuse to accept the price and think that Gamestop is trying to rip their customers.. Believe that Sony is not so stupid, I will.. flex.gif

Alright some technical stuff for the tech-jargons here.

What I found is that while the ARM Cortex-A9 CPU is 4 cores (quad-cores), it runs on a 32-bit platform.
Not much of a surprise there considering majority of the handhelds today (including most mobile smartphones) are doing the same thing.

It is estimated that each core will be clocked in at 1.5Ghz each, but the maximum amount of clock speed it can reach is 2Ghz per core.
Obviously, faster CPU = less battery life.

Like the PSP before FW3.5, the CPU was only clocked at 266mhz, which was the default.
When GoW: COO was in development, Sony gave developers that extra speed by unlocking the CPU speed up to 333mhz.

With that said, I think Sony would allow developers to use that extra power down the line when needed.

As for the GPU, it is also a quad-core based.
Pretty unique for an embedded IGP if you ask me.

Each core is rated at 200mhz, delivers up to 133 million polys per sec.
Pretty much as powerful as the Xbox 1's GPU, about 4x as powerful as the current PSPs.

Like we've seen on the live-presentation yesterday, Uncharted was seemingly running at a pretty stable 25-30fps mark.
While the character polys weren't that impressive, the shaders and textures were pretty jaw-dropping stuff.

I expect developers to push for shaders more than polys though (MGS4 tech demo was all polys), but we'll see soon enough as Sony hasn't finalized the clock speed it wants for the GPU yet.

That's the end of my analysis.
Lots of power packed under the NGP, lots of potential too.

One thing is for sure, games will look better than the Wii and we can expect games on the NGP to be as good looking as first-generation titles on the PS3.

Sony says NGP will be 'affordable,' won't cost $599, WiFi-only version also coming

We had quite the interview with Sony's Jack Tretton, but we certainly didn't corner the market on hot new NGP details -- Eurogamer and Game Informer quizzed the company's Andrew House and Shuhei Yoshida, respectively, and came out with some important tidbits about the quad-core gaming handheld, particularly regarding pricing. Though Tretton seemed to suggest we'll see a price somewhere northward of the Nintendo 3DS's $250, Yoshida was quoted as saying "It's not going to be $599," laughing off the idea that the system would cost as much as the PlayStation 3's infamous appraisal at launch, and House said that Sony "will shoot for an affordable price that's appropriate for the handheld gaming space."

While none were willing to cough up a real ballpark estimate, the SCEE president revealed one way that the cost might come down: pushing out a lesser model without cellular connectivity, a strategy we've seen before. House said that while all devices come with WiFi, "a separate SKU will have 3G," making us wonder which of the handheld's other groundbreaking features might carry a premium. After all, OLED screens don't come cheap. Find the rest of Eurogamer's excellent interview (including a bit about how Sony will prioritize downloadable content over physical media) at our source link.

QUOTE
Tretton wouldn't definitively say whether or not original PSP titles are in Suite's future -- "at this point, it's PlayStation One games, but I think it can go in a number of directions." This runs a bit counter to what Kaz Hirai said earlier in the day, but either he might've misspoken or the translator erred.

The controller overlay we saw used as an example at the event was just that -- an example, with no guarantee of future use.

That "holiday 2011" launch applies to at least one territory, but Sony was "ambiguous for a reason" (i.e. simultaneous global rollout is a dream but far from a promise.) We probably won't have a clearer image until fall rolls around, sometime after E3.

No discussion on battery life, but Sony is "certainly look to improve upon [original PSP]." For what it's worth, that one measured about 4.5 to 7 hours at launch, and Sony eventually sold an extended-life pack.

PS Suite will have non-gaming apps.

A WiFi-only version? "We haven't made any determination on models yet," which is infinitely more vague than the confirmation of non-3G SKUs from SCEE president Andrew House.

Will Sony or a Sony partner make a flagship device to show off the Suite? A, dare we say, PlayStation phone? "Stay tuned" was all Tretton would say, followed by a laugh. Hey, at least we acknowledged the elephant in the room.

They should incorporate some sort of chat program.

I mean, after all, it shouldn't be so difficult.

Just use each others PSN ID like the PS3 to add friends, then can play online and chat with one another, and maybe even video chat? There is a front-facing camera after all.

The UI is basically a heavily modified Android.
It's bound to have a texting system, no worries.

I really hope they incorporate it with the PSN ID though.

Imagine playing a game online, then with the same user ID, playing the same game online on the NGP using the same PSN profile.

That would be so cool!

Call of Duty For NGP 'Will Set The Bar' For Next-Gen Portables

PlayStation Portable owners haven't seen a Call of Duty game on their platform since 2007's Call of Duty: Roads to Victory. That will change with the arrival of the next generation PSP, the NGP, says Activision.

Philip Earl from Activision took to the stage at Sony's unveiling of the PSP2 to show the Call of Duty publisher's support for the handheld in the form of a new Call of Duty game. "We believe that NGP will change the way people play games on the go," Earl said, "and what better way to prove that, than with Call of Duty."

"When considering the OLED screen, dual analog sticks, touch screens, and social connectivity options, the possibilities are endless," Earl said.

It's that last item on the list of features that has us most interested, considering Sony's push for integration between the PlayStation 3 and NGP. If your future Call of Duty games could feature persistent progression across both the console version and the portable one, that could be quite the hook—not to mention the opportunity to sell double the Call of Duty games to PlayStation fans each year.

No formal announcement yet about what Call of Duty NGP has in store, but expect big things closer to the handheld's launch.

Yes!

That is exactly what I'm hoping for!

Im buy 3ds first cuz its got good game to play consider i grow up with nintendo.

seriously , If the NGP is truly capable of playing ps3 games easily, then when games are released on Xbox360, and Ps3, they can also be released on the NPG as multi system releases and not ports. One day handhelds and consoles will be merged into one device you can take on the road then plug into your TV when you get home. thats good.when a game is released on Xbox360 and Ps3 it can also be released on NPG, therefore you essentially wont need a console.

i hope this not to pricey .
also , if microsoft make handheld they will have hardtime cuz even xbox sell not so great.

overall 3ds and ngp (psp2) will kicked other device like Smartphones and Tablets in gaming cuz they can't compete ,performance, game quality or online capabilities . im Deffinetly buy both but like i say i buy 3ds first. maybe 2 next year i buy this. concern to pricey.

i heard some ngp only have 3G.

I bet it will happen since it got trophies,it would be suck if you need to create a new psn id to just get trophy, games on ngp will sync with your ps3 at home.1 WORD AWESOME thumbup.gif It will happen since that is an awesome option for ppl who have ps3.Will hear more when E3/TGS i guess.

WHITE NGP IS SO FK SEXY !

I guess Sony now is:

Its near but not is. I certainly wouldn't want developers taking PSP2 as a destination for multi-console release. Just like the plague with PS3/X360 where they had to maximize graphic only at X360 level, having PSP2 in the list means PSP2 is the maximum of graphics. Not too great I bet looking at them in your FullHD TV.

this is a must buy, however i was wondering how to purchase the games since it doesnt has a umd drive.. i mean if it has to be donloded, considering the graphic, i think each game would at least be 2-3gb or mayb more of size, imagined we have to donlod that size per each game with our current internet speed, that wil be annoying..

psp go was similar to the original psp... so it wouldnt be hard to hack...
ngp on the other hand is totally different... i hope it wont failed like psp though..

about the "cross platform game progression" or whatchamacallit... it'll be nice feature to have, to continue what you left from ps3 on the ngp... they dont have to limit the graphic, just make the save data readable on both platform... but i think it'll kill each other though... imagine u can play one game on either of the platform... so ppl would think why buy both if u can play on either console with same (or at least similar, with some games only available on one of the consoles yadda yadda) game list lol... it'll also kills the exclusivity of each consoles... so im against this one... just my two cents

I think they will probably give people the option to choose PS3 games that comes with PSP2 card reader or none.. Instead having both sold separately.. I think if this is the case and they can make the battery life extend to like 7 hours or more.. Many hardcore who go out often are going to grab this.. Waiting for gf can be a hell of a fun.. Unless... your gal hates gaming so much... Then its a different story.. And you wun mind waiting for frens that took ages to come too.. Well, not bad...

Since its close to PS3 too I think they will most probably just copy the game inside... But, the thing is, if the card only hold 7gb(rumored).. A huge game has like 20 to 30gb... so... are they trying to cramp the whole thing to that size? Whoa.. I imagine So much has to be taken away.. Less the memory can manufacture base on the developers liking?

But, won't that be like buying two games in a box?

Or, PSP2 game can be used in PS3 as well..So it will be an all new game for PSP itself but you can play it on PS3? Then.. What is the point of bluray? Since, the small one is cheaper?

Hmm.. Lets see how Sony wants to do it..

Sigh... Now that I think, being Sony is not easy indeed.. You got ps3 hack to deal, you got PSP2 to sort and future piracy as well... Unlike nintendo there are many good games, but many crappy games can sell too from sport to puzzles because parents love the simplicity and kids love it too... While sony can never sell crappy games because people will just lost faith in you..And they can't afford people to go pirate like Microsoft..Heck, they can't even convince people for the subscription like Microsoft did and no arcade developers for them... My~ the competition is just harsh... rclxub.gif

Tp be honest, still too much factor lies unconfirmed for NGP.
Sony held this conference to drop a bomb on 3ds sales purposely.
It's a good business strategy move, but hopefully they could deliver what they've promised with NGP.
Not like how they ripped PS3 feattures off like prototype (split screen with 2 HDMI, etc...)

if im not mistaken, the spec of 3DS is slight better than the psp.
For me, i dont mind game with lousy graphic but game play is all that matter..
3DS already have some really nice game developing. And with 3D..its really interesting.
Maybe i should get 3DS 1st and wait for NGP to become stable

this might be true too... but lets just see whats sony gonna do.. cool.gif

nway theres rumors going around the price gonna be $US300 - $US350... so that'll make it around RM1500++... so assuming sony malaysia going to be "super slow" on bringing in this one... NGP will be brought in by the third parties, and they will mark up the price... RM2000, or maybe RM2500 the most... just like what happens to iphone4 when it first reached here =_=

as much i want to buy it day one.... im going to wait for sony malaysia... cry.gif

No it's not confirm at all for the prices.
I'm just saying it, take it with a grain of salt. However I feel confident that it'll cost less than $300, for sure.

Drop the poly counts, lower texture res and filrate, re-do the geometry.
Many PS3 games can be done on the NGP.

And of course it is more powerful than the PS2 as the NGP is already more powerful than the Xbox 1.

What kojima trying to say is u can play the game on NGP outside with a portable way and continue ur save game when u are at home playing on ur ps3. Which is something cool but I hope the game u can share on both system by download probably. Otherwise costly to get both games on ps3 n ngp.

I think sony is a bit rush of showing off NGP. They are desperate to compete with 3DS which they will still lose to 3DS definitely in term of sales. But showing just NGP and some TECH DEMO of NGP is quite pointless. No matter how powerful is NGP, ppl are more excited of the actual games that's going to release on NGP instead of false hope form ps3 tech demo.

Is good to have games like MH3 with analog to move the camera angle and also FPS games.. Im excited to play Killzone + COD on NGP coop.. any other 3rd person view games are good to experience again on NGP. It will be lovely with the new right analog.

I used to have DSi but I realize i got bored too fast with the games which i feel too old school to me n too cartoony like mario, zelda and kingdom hearts. And really can feel those games are limited on what they can perform. Even kingdom hearts I prefer to see more detail n colours as well as content on next generation console.

Im more to fan games and to graphic then to gameplay. Because....
Nintendo's market is to target kids mainly. Even though I always remind myself not to compare since both SONY and Nintendo target the different market. I really think the current generation can really create a great graphic engine portable device. But NINTENDO choose to release their next gen portable device (3DS) by not maximizing the graphic engine. Because they KNOW it's expensive n costly to develop a handheld and they won't make profit from selling the 3DS if ppl dont buy it for the expensive price, so why put good graphic card inside the 3DS? They want to save cost and make profit. Just my opinion..

so by that means 3DS and NPG targeting different segmentation of market and you cant compare both of their sales performance when u have different type of customer to begin with....

they took too long to make that game and for me it doesn't look really great .i was hoping at least they make nothing new on the gt and just port it from the ps2 version of gt4.or maybe gt2 with improved graphics

Actually the whole reason they did this press release is to steal Nintendo's thunder before 3DS' launch. Now that consumers know that there is going to be a competing handheld console, consumers will think twice before buying the 3DS in case the PSP2/NGP is more to their liking. The tech demos were actually done to show that there is dev support for it and to show what the potential is for the platform. Technically the tech demos are more aimed towards other devs that haven't signed up to support the platform.

Also the 3DS is quite the powerhouse itself. That's why it reportedly has only 3-5 hours of battery life froma single full charge and it costs $250 which is the most expensive of any Nintendo handheld so far.

yup,u are right,if they port gt4 on this powerful ngp,it would be useless bcause ngp is more powerful than ps2.
but i dun care since gt4 was a superb game
dunno bout how great is gt5,nver play it before.
but for the psp,5 years waiting and gt psp seems bad,to buy cars is quite hard.they should just make the gameplay like gt2.the graphics for gt psp for quite good already

One thing that really caught my attention is on Dungeon Defender. Not the game itself but the fact it was ported from PS3 in less than a week without reduction of content or quality. Now that's awesome.

My opinion on this is the camera is not for capturing image. That's just an extra feature if any. The main point of it is Augmented Reality. With that as the main priority I don't see any need for big MP needed. As long as it's enough for AR, there's no point for going big numbers.

I hope the design is not final because I don't like the position of the speakers...Should be at the top or parallel with the top screen..Our hand (or thumb) will blocked the speakers like in the pic:

LG has shown its Android based Optimus 3D at Mobile World Congress.

check out these videos

I heard rumors PS Suite wont just be old PS One games, but some exclusive stereoscopic 3d games by Sony.(Sony's answer to rival 3D aspect of 3DS)
So much for 3DS being the only stereoscopic 3d handheld.

IMHO, the rumor might be true, considering NGP isnt a 3D device, and by supporting 3D games on Android platform through PS Suite, Sony could dip into the 3D mobile gaming earlier, before making PSP3 ( and they can start developing 3d games without even have to develop a 3d enabled device on their own )

I've been waiting for so long to have enough money to get a PSP 3000 but do you think I should buy now because I heard PSP NGP is coming out....

I don't know if i should wait because if i do, but the price if out of my budget then I'm now allowed to buy but if the price is in my budget range, don't you think i should have bought a better one? My budget is RM1000 and i don't know what is so difference between the current psp with the PSP NGP. If it doesn't really have big difference then i should go for PSP 3000....

any opinions, plz?

Got PSN ma... Where got little game.. You download all digitally then play it in bigger NGP screen.. But can only use one stick la.. Unless they tweak it which need to wait half a year more.. But its true that its going to be expensive.. I think it will cost more than a PS3.. Saw someone selling RM1500.. Lol.. laugh.gif

So, I suggest you buy a PSP 3K in Garage sale Lowyat... Trusted sellers Sell around RM600 over with 8gb memory card.. Worth it lor.. but thing is one ori game will cost you around RMM100 over, every game will be around 30 to 100 hours max... So with your money left you can get 2 to 3 pieces of games..

If you got PS3 then its ok.. IF not.. I suggest you get PS3 then buy 2 games like tat... Can tahan you quite some time and most of the game can give you up to 100 hours or more.. Some even encourage you to replay..so, got enough time before you get enough of money to buy a new game.. Or you can do sharing thru PSN which is way cheaper.. Well, the choice is in your hand!

But Remember! Support Ori! flex.gif

i thought psp won't get outdated and they release new version just to have more functions?

As much as Sony would like to retain the users, but most of the launching console, especially the new generation of handheld ( including 3DS and NGP both ) are going to launch with some ridiculously high price .

In either case if you want a PSP, buy a PSP now instead of waiting for NGP, which does not even have an actual release date yet . PSP has a great collection of games that should last you for several years .

It is likely NGP will be going up to as much as rm 2000 + ( like PSP did ) , therefore you wont be able to afford that budget for awhile ( since your budget is <rm 1000 )

Yea... Its not out yet.. But I saw someone put that price.. lol.. I think its around there too... Shud be la.. My guess oso..

Hmm... I am not sure about the physical media if you ask me.. And if some game use dual analogue.. i think old psp kenot use dy... same like PS2 transition to PS3... Slowly, players will be forced to change to get NGP... With the graphic and stuff..

well, i mean psp... lol.. But, I saw someone with "ahem" ps3 games these days.. It can get bit troublesome sometime...

In either case if you want a PSP, buy a PSP now instead of waiting for NGP, which does not even have an actual release date yet . PSP has a great collection of games that should last you for several years .

i heard psp will be released in the middle or toward the end of this year.

this is what i hate the most. Last time, i didn't have money to buy PS2 and i had waited for so long for the price to drop. They stop producing games for PS2 not long after I had bought it that and it really pissed me off.

I've been wanting a psp for so long and i have bought PS3 so my plan to buy a psp got delayed. PSP has been in the market for so long and I'm very worried that PSP 3000 will get outdated and they will stop making games for PSP. That's why I don't know if i should wait for NGP but the price is one of the major problem that i might not buy it.

But my friends told me that PSP won't get outdated so soon because it's a console game that won't get outdated but only have newer edition and add on more features. They will keep producing game for psp just like PSP 1000 can still play latest game but it doesn't mean PSP can survive for another ten years due to change of technology.

It will, sooner or later.NGP is not another psp but is a new handheld produce by sony.Maybe next 2 years, sony will stop the production of psp games to force us consumer to buy their new products which is NGP.

remember, this is not ps3 phat to slim.
but this is ps2 to ps3.

NGP is a new generation of handheld. Its in different generation from psp.You can't play NGP games in psp.

How long have you been waiting lol, like .. 8 years ? Because I remember that PS2 actually lasted for quite many many years .

PSP is 5 years old now, you are indeed quite late to purchase the PSP . Dont worry about it being obsolete soon, Because it will.

We are about to enter the Next Generation of handheld within this year . But that does not mean you should not buy a PSP . You wanted to buy a PSP to play all its game, it has a great selection of games now that should keep you busy for years.

Or Do you plan to buy a PSP to stay on the top of the trend now ? If you do you are 5 years late.

To be frankly honest NGP will most likely be selling for RM 2000 +( like PSP when it first launches ) , especially local merchant loves to raise the price to the sky for New Popular items , remember how FF13 was selling for RM 400 for no reasons.

Unless you can spare another RM2000 For NGP, forget about it for now.

Yea I am sure everyone heard a lot of things too , did you prepare RM2000+ for it?

A leaked GameStop photo of upcoming video game releases has hinted at what the upcoming successor to the PlayStation Portable, the NGP, may end up costing when it releases in the US.

One of the main points of speculation since the announcement of the NGP has been it’s price point. The new handheld system is touting PS3 like graphics on a touch screen, two thumb sticks, multiple motion tracking sensors, as well as a touch pad on the back. This coupled with a high end camera, cross platform playing capabilities, and Wi-fi and 3G connectivity, all comes together for what’s presumably some expensive technology. The recently leaked screens from Gamestop supports what several analysts predicted: a $300 price point. Well, $299.99 to be exact, if you worry about pennies.

First batch speculation RM1500 till RM2000. If we are lucky or Sony is feeling generous, we might get it same price as PS3 which is round RM1000 to RM1200.. So, Fingers crossed... laugh.gif

i think it will be around 1.1 - 1.2k, the same as a PS3. 1.5-2k seems like overkill.

you know the exchange rate is 3.3,right?
that's RM900.
how'd you get 1.5k from 300?
USD=!GBP.

if you're talking convertion AND mark up, then yeah..i agree.
but solely converting wont get you 1.5k

Most of the time after conversion the price will be cheaper to the ones selling in malaysia. But one thing is that don't forget that after tax and somemore those local sellers want to profit from bringin in the console might hike up the price.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-03-...ming-to-android

Like I said, theres more to ps suite than meets the eye.
If NGP can play PS3-like graphics, ps2 should be no problem.

After PS suite matured enough, there should be 3d games to rival 3ds once stereoscopic 3d android phones adoption rate is high enough.

Currently, only LG Optimus is in the market.

http://androidandme.com/2011/02/phones/lg-...map4-processor/

How the I think the flows going to be:

A flood of 3d-enabled android phones
>>Xperia Play 3d (by Sony)
>>3d games in PS Suite

In any case, if 3d mobile flops, there wont be 3d Xperia play, and Sony wont be chasing the niche market that 3DS holds.

Just my 2 cents.

will it damage the psp or battery for playing while charging? That seller asked me not to do it....but many people said we can play while charging. According to logic, i don't think it will damage the battery because if we can use phone while charging why not PSP?

Ask Nintendo. Their initial DS was region free but 3ds were region locked. Never know why the stepback.

This seems rather promising. Can't wait to get one really. Not really for the gaming bit. More for the hacking + homebrew developing part.

If it's hacked, it'll bring the glory days of the PSP homebrew community back to life once more. And I can't wait to be part of that smile.gif

And to those who're mad at this machine for not having the ability to make phone calls, come on.. this is a game console. :/

As in an accelerometer? If yes, then yeap. It's packed with the "Six-axis motion sensing system".

That I wouldn't know. They haven't revealed much yet about that. And it's not a phone tongue.gif

The PSP handheld system is a handheld gaming device, where gaming specs are given more priority compared to unnecessary ones like Flash capability as well as a good browser. Of course, having a decent web browser would be awesome, but I'm dead sure it wouldn't be able to replace the browsing experience of a device that is MEANT to browse the internet.

You mean you bricked you PSP? Ahh.. sucky sad.gif

You can't as far as I know. But if there's Skype included, then it's a different story.

But you wouldn't want to trade your iPhone for this. That's like trading a business/entertainment phone for a device that concentrates on games, and only games. I'm sure the web browsing, e-mailing, organizing experience on the iPhone would be MUCH better than the PSV.

I wouldn't convert the $250 price tag directly. I guess we ought to wait and see about that. It'll be released at the end of 2011. But that's in the US.

Yeah, I'm sure that'd be the case. But maybe around RM900. I don't have a PS3 either. Just a PS2 console, 2 phat PSPs and 1 PSP slim. All with custom firmware installed smile.gif

Yeah, but I'm not REALLY impressed with the touchpad. No doubt that touch screens are a major selling point, but I'm not exactly sure how this whole thing works. But if they were to allow users to choose whether they wish to activate, or disable the touch pad in game, then it'll be perfect,

Homebrew is used to describe self-made, non-commercial games by programmers and developers who're part of the PSP community. For instance, if you're good at programming in the C language, and you're wanting to develop a game. So you download the SDK, whip up a game, and you share it with a forum or website that you regularly visit. The news will then spread, and within two days, you'd see your program all over the net (provided that the site you initially uploaded it to is a popular one, that is)

Here are the homebrew games/apps and plugins that I've made for the PSP console : http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/910635

Yeah, the Phat PSP is a great console. Well, it has 32MB worth of RAM, so blehh tongue.gif

I just dig the touchpad more than touchscreen. I never able to get into DS as I'm not comfortable moving my hand away from the buttons to touch the screen. It just feel weird.
But with rear touchpad I don't need to move my thumb away from the buttons to do so.

I could see it to be above PS2 and still not surpass PS3. it can play PS3 quality games as it need lesser graphic power to play the game on smaller screen.

Nope. The PS2 system is way to powerful for the PSP. And it's going to be the same for the PSV as well. It was tough work to even get N64 games to run at fullspeed on the PSP system with an emulator.

I agree that PS2> PSP and PS3>PSV in the sense of hardware.

but less power is required to run the game on the small screen as opposed to big TV. Thus PS3 games can still be ported to PSV.

When you run games on emulator, it is not optimised for the hardware and it will still run the game on full detail as if it needed for TV.

IMHO, PS Vita is almost on par with the PS3 system, based on its size. Ofcourse, PS3 is more powderful because it can support up to 1080p Full HD games. On the other hand, PS Vita can probably support up to 360p. So, maybe the processing power is the same towards its size. If you get what I mean. Since PS Vita is using a quad core processor to run.

Here is a comparison between Uncharted Golden Abyss (PSV) and Uncharted Drake's Fortune (PS3).

If I recall right, they'd be using NGV (or something like that) cards which are capable of storing up to 4GB worth of data. So you just stick the card into the provided slot, and you can boot your game right up. Sorta like a cartridge. I don't know how a NGV (or whatever) card looks like anyway tongue.gif

And no more XMB (Xross Media Bar) that we all saw on the earlier versions of the PSP. This is fresh drool.gif

Yeah, I'm guessing that's what it is all about. Pretty decent smile.gif

Now, I hope the game cards aren't too be sold at a really high price. But it's interesting to see what the developers can offer as they're given the freedom to use the 4GB (Maximum I think) cards rather than the 1.8GB (Dual layer) UMDs. I hope we'd be able to see good games smile.gif

And also, lots of developers are keen on developing for this console. 80+ developers from what I heard.

Some sources believe it can be used to make phone calls, but I'm not sure as lots of others are brushing off those rumours.

Btw, whats the meaning of homebrew though?

I also have a phat PSP. Quite lag when play Ghost of Sparta. LOL.
homebrew will lead to piracy in the hands of an average joe.

C++/homebrew/linux/folding/overclocking/etc go to PC pls.. consoles are bound to the manufactures RULES while PCs are more open source

It CAN, but that only will happen if a programmer/hacker comes up with an ISO loader (Or whatever the image of the games will be). But homebrew wouldn't lead to piracy. Ignorant users will. Homebrew is extremely fun, and it'll help us users make the most out of our consoles.

My hope to Vita

1) Can make phone call.
2) Can integrate with PS3, more like Wii U tongue.gif
3) New monster hunter game XD

If this can happen, then my money is for you SONY, haha..
*
1) no, its not a phone... its a portable game console.. however, a video call or chat might be possible.. it has a front facing camera + internal mic
and another thing, i think there is voiceover chat or something.. where you can voice chat with ur friends, whether youu r in or off game

2) you mean, make it as a ps3 controller? nothing on that yet.. IMO, it would be cool, but kinda not that practical.. WII U too IMO its not that pratical.. but that is just my opinion

3)yes there is new monster hunter game.. it was demo-ed when NGP first announced.. Freedom Unite 3 if im not mistaken...

QUOTE(Aeiou11 @ Jun 8 2011, 03:14 PM)
So it can't play your ps3 games as rumored before. I'm sad....
*
Its actually yes and no... no, you cannot play all the "previous" and some of the new ps3 game on NGP directly.. but it may be ported in the future

yes, because there is some game where you can play on the ps3.. and continue on the NGP, pick up where you left off in the PS3.. thats how it is "specifically" designed to work, but theres nothing yet on whether you had to buy the game separately for each version... check out the game called "Ruin" for NGP.. watch it's E3 stage demo on youtube.. u'll get what i mean..

and theres also cross platform multiplayer, where you meet both players from NGP or PS3 in one multiplayer game...

P/S: i purposedly used NGP.. PS Vita or PSV just seems so wrong when i pronounce it.. hahah

EDIT: Oh yeah about the price... Note that USD299 is the exact price for PS3 in the US... So Sony Malaysia is selling to us at plus minus RM1300... so NGP+3G should be priced around that if not the same... so you can roughly guess how much non 3G NGP would cost... i would say around RM900-RM1000...

THAT is if you buy the malaysian version which for sure release very late... The singapore version? it is much more cheaper... note CHEAPER.. RM1000 is already a great deal for a so great device... but lesser?? man, sony sure knows how to put a price...

Yes, you should be able to play purchased PSP titles on your PS Vita. However, this doesn't include the hard copy of the games which of course comes in the form of a UMD disc. You should be able to run PSP titles, mini games, as well as PSX titles downloaded from the PS store.

luckily i already bought ps3 early this year, so i wont hav any dilemma on choosing which.. however, i kinda pity my ps3 as i rarely play, reasons a few - kinda busy with works, n games kinda expensive sweat.gif huhuhu, also it is hard for me to be apart with my pc as i build it for my complete entertainment systems, games, movie, browsing n music.. but nevertheless i will buy this psv to complete all console from sony i owned so far, from psx/ps1,ps2,ps3,psp, n psv will join the family soon rclxm9.gif uhuhuhuhu..

too bad xperia play doesnt really suit my taste.. if im rich i'll xperia play for collection only hahhahahaha tongue.gif

Luckily it's not called PS VISTA! lol! tongue.gif

Anyway, this thing looks nice but any idea on the battery life?
*
It has been said, that the battery life of the Vita will be somewhat similar to it's predecessors. So I'm guessing you'd be able to fork out about 5-7 hours of battery life. But the rear touchpad surely will drain a lot of juice. hmm.gif

Take advantage of Multimedia Act... declare as computer. And computer no tax rclxms.gif
Technically, all video games are computers. Especially if it can access Internet, then there's no excuse smile.gif

usd 314 is okay. even when i go back to canada and get it at retail price i still need to pay 13% consumer tax = =
but still, dont think im buying on release date. wanna wait for a bundle limited edition. a final fantasy game would be nice biggrin.gif

4GB, 8GB, 16GB, and also 32GB. Brilliant, but seems like they aren't SD cards.

Well.. I guess Sony just love using proprietary storage formats for their systems.. : /

Sure hope so. with the touch screen, 3G and all. I hope it performs close to tablet in terms of web browsing, emails and music/video. way to show those IPAD fans that apple products are overpriced.

Compare it with US RRP, IPAD 2 16 GB retails for $499 and $699 for 64GB. PSVita is $249. I still remember the days where PS3's launch price was said to be too expensive.

Obviously our earning power sucks balls, which is why I never mentioned that.
What I did mention was that it's very cheap for an Apple product.
I was expecting RM2000 at least for the 16GB model, turned out it was much lower than that!

For those who're wanting to replace their iPods/iPhones/iPads with a new, sexy looking Vita, I suggest you wait till it's actually released before making a move. The main reason why the PSP/PSV were both developed, was to allow us gamers to play games on the go. Yeap. But to most of us, the gaming quality matters, and I'm pretty sure not many of us enjoy playing iPod style games.

But having said that, I honestly doubt the PSV would allow us to surf the net without any hiccups, and I'm pretty sure it would not provide us with a better browsing experience than the iOS devices that are out right now. Yes, you WOULD be able to browse the net, check your Facebook, update your status and what not, but.. the browsing quality on iOS devices is simply marvelous, and I doubt the Vita would be able to do the same.

So, if you're planning to swap your iPod for a PSV solely for gaming purposes, then great, go ahead. If you're wanting to do so, expecting the PSV to be able to provide you with the same browsing quality as your iPod, I'm sorry to say.. but you might just regret your decision once you get hold of one.

Agreed, if you are going to browsing the web mainly. stick with the smartphones/tablets. I personally don't do that much mobile browsing, aside from checking facebook updates occasionally, and I want a quality gaming experience. Do wait to see how the browser works(though I doubt Sony wont make improvements on the PS3/PSP browser)

Hahahaa, that must be back in 2004 thumbup.gif

Seen the Vita. The only thing that excite me a bit is the Trophies and if can align with the PS3 ones.

Seriously though I think they need a better angle if they want to get ahead of the IPad / iOS gaming devices. I own a PSP and an iPhone, and found myself playing more Iphone games than my PSP. Hopefully the PS Vita can change that, and that there is clear difference between PSV vs the iOS (especially when iPhone 5 is around the corner). Heck, even believe any of the current PSP games can easily be played on the current iOS devices if someone wants to port them.

Agree with you. Am not used to playing SF IV or even the racing ones (top down or first person) with the touch screen. However for most adventure, strategy & RPG games I don't really need buttons and I'm kinda fond of those as well.

I guess I meant from a business perspective, r there enough hardcore gamers to support PSV, or in this case do Sony wants to try and attract casual gamers as well. THere's a whole big market of Android, iOS & facebook type of gaming out there and if Sony wants a slice of that pie, they should at least try to improve the interface somewhat.

Well for all our sakes I really hope so. I hope it reaches 100 million units and that means more games, more support, etc. But technology is so fast this days that by the time PSV comes out, Ipad3, Iphone5, HTCs, Samsungs, all will have dual core / quad core processors. Not to mention all the games developers are working on for almost every platform by then will have superb graphics, 3D sound, etc. Let's not even forget the 3DS.

If Sony wants to play technology game, better put a supercomputer inside so it will last for at least 5 years or more. Or make a lot of things exclusive that people can only play on PS Vita. Or create a much better Apps ecosystem than Android / iOS (though this one seems impossible)

Don't get me wrong, I had 2 PSPs and really looking forward to the Vita. I just hope that V8 engine they're putting in will last for at least 3 years before all other portable units have one smile.gif

This is better then PSP GO. iDevice can use internal memory to download cause the game average size not so large. But PSP GO game much more larger, so download it could kind of waste time and battery. NVG Cards are better then UMD cause it Solid State Flash Memory should be faster writing speed, durable to scratch. BTW, does this PlayStation®Vita secondary removable memory support? I mean micro-SD card support(since they have dump their M2 memory stick micro). It don't have sure PhotoFast or someone make micro-SD card to NVG Cards adapter for it.

I think there are speculations that they do. In fact, it may not comes with any internal storage at all, since it was not announced at E3. Partly due to they are trying to cut down cost and recoupe it via selling the memory card.

Yes agree, cause the 249 USD = 747 MYR the device itself contain so many hardaware 4 core ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore, 5-inch OLED multi-touch capacitive touchscreen, 24-bit color, 960 × 544 pixels @ 220 ppi, 200 MHz SGX543MP4+,Input Touchscreen, Rear touchpad rclxm9.gif rclxub.gif ,Sixaxis motion sensing(gyro), Three-axis electronic compass, D-pad, 12 × Buttons (T, O, X, S, L, R, Start, Select, Home, Volume ±, Power), 2 × Analog sticks, Front and rear VGA cameras and etc. It they put 16gb sure no untung edi. Maybe small couples MB leftover by OS system file.

I think Sony's gonna make a loss initially with so much heavy duty hardware inside. My concerns :

1. How long can last before price continues to drop and technology catches up (this days very very fast!) and PS Vita becoms obsolete or so normal and cheap the other knock-offs can copy. It's just 1 / 2 years and SF IV can play on iPhone alreadi (example).

2. Software support. Again this is crucial. I think everyone knows this.

3. Market trends. As we know casual gaming is the trend and hardcore gamers I think are a either a dying breed, or remains the same market as ever. Imagine portable gaming. How many of us are Hardcore Portable Gamers who play games that are more than just Farmville / Tetris? I don't think we play our PSPs at home if we have PS3s. So when we go out, do we play games or socialize? 3 years ago when I got my PSP, I carry it with me and play Crisis Core, GOW, etc. (up until frens also complain I antisocial). Nowadays, my iPhone is hogging the limelight when I'm out. Even when I was travelling I find myself less playing the PSP because I can surf, hear music, read books, play iPhone, etc. So many choices this days, hence I'm wondering if the Hardcore Portable Gamers market is growing.

Personally, I hope PS Vita succeeds and able to change the market but with the 3DS situation (so fast price drop), I don't think its gonna happen. I will want to get one though but will probably wait for a price drop which I'm guessing to be within 6 - 12 months of the launch.

Psvita vs ios games? Touch screen games cant really compete with portable games with buttons..

Ios games looks superior right now because the current portable games is using older technology. (psp=2004 tech iinm).

I think not just that. They have tapped into the casual gaming crowd where else PSP still reserve for hard core gamers. Even when Sony try to introduce the Minis, (with this objective in mind) they still can't penetrate this gaming crowd where IOS and Android is attacking.

Core target - Casual games for casual gamers
Secondary target - Hardcore games of yesteryear to not only show off the device capability but also allow them to market the product as a gaming device. To the casual observer they just think that they have a superior product that can do so many different things but to the more serious gamers, it would not appeal so much especially for those who wants buttons.

i don't think sony is too greedy to grab both casual and hardcore gamers with betting on a single device (vita). with the power-packed gadget (vita), they should make it more affordable and turn those casual gamers into hardcore gamers.. laugh.gif heck, even those other badwagon portable gamers could also jump-in to vita bandwagon.. whistling.gif tongue.gif

They definitely aim at hardcore gamers first and foremost. But the multi-touch interface should make casual gamers of smartphones feel right at home. and for smartphone games to be ported.

Hi. As long as they're focused, and hopefully the hardcore gamers market doesn't shrink. They would also somehow need to improve the OS. I have a PSP, and just got an iPhone & iPad so I can see why people are drawn to the Apple's system and their casual games. It's so bloody simple and fast.

JRPG a rarity now, the golden age of PS2 is over. With Capcom confirming no more releases for Breath of Fire, and the departure of Final Fantasy not being Final Fantasy anymore, we can only hope for more Tales from Namco.

And Atlus, I need a Megaten now. But I'll settle for a Persona5 as well.

Seeing pap is selling well in Japan I bet there'd be loads of jrpg includiing persona. High chances will come for ngp but not sure for ps3. Been A long time since any of the series came to the console.

still do u think Sony will make a contract with either Maxis/DiGi/Celcom to have their 3G services available .

anyways , which version would u buy .
i seriously juz wanted to buy the Wi-Fi only , coz well currently almost everywhere in KL have Wi-Fi connection . and it's cheaper . also imho is that 3G coverage wont able to handle online gaming . the upload and download data will be very high , and the 3G will reach it's quota . it must have a quota like Maxis BB or Celcom BB .

what do u think ?

Well maybe they will have a chat with the telcos. They do have a mobile phone arm anyway. Like the Experia Arc which can play PSP games.

See what kind of online features they have before deciding. Yes, the quota things is a bummer and i doubt the telcos would give an unlimited plan. Even if got, its probably gonna be costly (Celcom 6 GB quota is already at RM 248 per month). Of course, can possibly buy additional but somehow I don;t trust that.

the first and foremost I can think of having the 3G version is that it can save me from buying smartphones, with now twitter and facebook support announced for PSVita the 3G version looks more and more attractive.

I can't justify spending so many money on smartphones as it is one expensive purchase which get outdated very soon. The Vita looks promising.

Well if PSVita can also do wifi tethering like iphone then you can ditch smartphones for it, and use it as wifi hub as well (connect with ur ps3 maybe). Then only thing left is battery life.

Seriously I'm hoping it can be at least 10 hours instead of 4 hrs like PSP.

i doubt that PSV will have 10 hours .
the hardware is more powerful than PSP , and with 3G it will reduce the battery life even shorter .

my life does not resolve around FB and Twitter . so 3G won't be necessary for me . cost efficient , i will buy Wi-Fi , cheaper console price and no monthly payment whatsoever .

that i dont know b'coz it is only a rumor . i mean they said they want to interpret Android OS in the system when they first introduce the console , but still , it's Sony , anything can happen between the first announcement and the launch date .

i think will last more or less like xperia play. coz for experia play they need allocate the battery to phone function as well. on the other hand vita runs better graphic. so i think if they upgrade battery should last longer.

then i guess 3g model has additional hardware so consume more battery to run??

Yeah , I have to agree on u with that . Xperia Play need to use more battery to standby for phone function . And vita won't need to standby for phone function . After u finish Playing the Vita u shut it down or put it to sleep . the Vita won't need to standby for any phone function , even if u FB or Twitter then it need to only standby , that if ur life revolves around it .

no, it's not. he's just kidding when he said that. it's $249 for wifi and $299 for 3g model. so it's about the same price with current ps3.

and actually, they already learnt their lesson(s). that's why the launch price for vita is much lower that of psp years back.

so they actually considered the price this time, and also selling the dev kit for vita for lower price for developer. i think they serious want vita to be developer-friendly. learnt it the hard way from ps3 i guess.

nop , wont be around that .
need + shipping cost and taxes .
i think it'll be around RM1k .
coz u recently look at PS3 160 GB drop price , in RM it is like 1030++ or something , so expect Vita will be around that .

I actually went to the Sony Store in KLCC a few months back and asked them if they were bringing in PSV. The guy said yes and it'll be priced around RM800-1k. O.O

Pray that that guy I asked is serious about it.

-.- i hope ur reason of cfw is not of other reason that contribute to the downfall of psp... If so... i hope ur wish never come true.. Its either u buy it ori or dun at all.. I seriously hate pirates... vmad.gif curse u for that.. tongue.gif

but on a side note... If they really sell for rm 900 i am more than happy to buy.. Whcih i wud doubt it.. The only place u could probably get it at that price might be in singapore though.....

i wonder if this 3G model will even be selling hot.. especially in malaysia where our dear telco is providing 'world class' tech to us user...

if battery could only last 3~4 hours with 3G on, i think all of us is better off staying indoors.. i rmb playing MH series with my psp on the plug everyday..

wifi seems to be the way to go for me..
