Hi

I just got my TAB few days ago. Bought it from Digital Mall, the sales guy told me the device came in from Saudi Arabia.

Anyway, my TAB does not come with the market app. Would like to ask if there are any of you with the same situation?
How do i install the market app?

Grateful for any assistance. Thanks!
*
try this and report back :

1. Open the Phone App

2. Enter the following info *#272*your device IMEI#

(your IMEI number is on the back of the galaxy tab)

3. Then choose XSG as the Sales Code option and
tap ok/install.

4. The tab will reboot and reset, this should take around
1-2 min. Then setup your tab again and you can see the Market app on the main screen and the menu.

Hi

Out of curiousity, I have flashed Overcome v1.2.0. After successfully flashing it, i went into recovery and it format the internal SD to EXT4 but IT says that MicroSD is not detected and its not formatted nor backup. My question is do I have to format my 16gb MicroSD to EXT4 after flashing to OC 1.2?

I have not unclocked it to 1.2ghz

My Quadrant test is getting 1660 and I saw that some of the user is achieving 18++. Any tweak to get this figure achieved.?
*
My understanding the EXT4 conversion is only on the 2GB portion of the internal SD card. Anyone - Correct me if I am wrong

Your external microSD not detected, not formatted etc is due to the card issue ; nothing related to the TAB. Before that , was it detected by the TAB ?

It is infact good practice to format the external card first using a PC . In my experience using various Windows and Android smartphones, the best method is to use SD tool not the usual windows format. This tool can even save supposedly spoilt/undetectable cards. I have use this tool to save several sd cards
http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter/sdfv2000.zip

You need to run then Quadrant test 3 to 5 x to get the best reading

Some encountered your prblem so it was advised to format the microsd first using the tab b4 flashing the kernel- so i did.Actually they say you are suppose to run guadrant test three times to get the high scores. I dont bother. Maybe you can go into cwm recovrry to wipe cache partition then advance to wipe dalvik cache, then reboot. It will take a while to reboot since it's rebuilding cache. Maybe faster after that??.
*
dave : you are right. This is always my SOP in flashing any new roms too on all my Android devices:
clear cache partition, clear cache , clear battery
These steps will not remove any data

If I want to flash any new rom knowing it will overwrite my data , I take it another step further : clear data/factory reset. I believe this step is important as by so doing you will eliminate any force closure of apps ( especially those restore from Titanium or myBackupPro)

What I did was
1. Wipe Cache
2. Wipe Dalvik - Shown error unable to find drive E, But completed the wipe successfully
2. Partition SD- 4096MB/Swap=0, does this means that I have formatted my microsd to EXT4?

Am I doing the right thing?

Did the benchmark test again, the result achieved
1st test : 1,716
2nd test : 1,762
3rd test : 1,778

Just curious - why you did Partition SD ??? This is the internal SD card - if you do this it will wi[pe clean your internal SD card. You do this only if your internal SD has problems
Based on what I ahve read, when you installed Overcome 1.2 - it will auto convert to ext4 if detected your file suystem is still RFS ; no need to do any other steps. Since you said you have seen ext4 successfully converted, don't touch the internal sd card

twokick : myzero is right too ; one can flash a new rom to solve this problem

If you dont want to flash new rom, just try the steps. Worse scenario if your phone fails to work - is due to modem.bin incompatible. Then just flash the modem file. Don't worry it won't spoilt your Tab

Added on February 27, 2011, 1:24 pmrahuldave : I read back your post again - you said you have successfully falsh overcome 1.2. Why did you go to do the partition on SD ? Is it after flash, your internal SD card cannot be detected ? If so, your external micro SD card will not be dtected as in the Samsung's file system, your ext SD card is nested below the internal SD card

If the internal SD card is not detected, you can still run apps but your internal SD card is disabled and all additional data for apps cannnot be installed on it. The only way out of this is to reflash a new rom using Odin with PIT and repartition to enabled back the internal SD card
Than only you proceed to upgrade accordingly

Thanks cx5, but i dont think i understand what you just written there. Hehe..

Anyway, I called up the sales guy that sold me this TAB. According to him the SLIDEME 4.0 app is the same as market app. And he will do jailbreak for me too.

Im really new to android, not sure what all these terms are so any feedback/advise is welcomed.

Thanks!

Since you are new to this TAB, is good advice play around and familiar first before unbreak your TAB.
You could 'root' your TAB easily just refer back to the first page of this thread by yourself after you fully understand that is what you want to do so.
Don't be hurry to 'jailbreak' (is actually call ROOTING in Android world) and i'm sure everyone here will assist you to the right path while you facing problem.
Have a good journey with your TAB. biggrin.gif

There is a tutorial in XDA pointed out by CX5 but is outdated as is based on extract of a rom zip file into 3 entities. You can refer here for a more up todate and simplified version. I wrote it after my first successful flash. I also started from scratch, know nuts about the Tab's firmware and flashing. I believe most of us are in same scenario . It is the interest in learning and trying. I'd suggest try do yourself rather than have shop do for you. There is always a saying : teach them how to fish and they'll value it for life and not just feed them the fish

SlideMe is a 3rd party apps site that encourage developers to submit their apps - it is a very small scale version of what you can find in Market. To date about under 10,000 apps while the Android market has about 120,000 apps more than 10 times more
If you are concernedd about getting Market - why don't you just try the steps I listed. Worse - it will not work . Or if can work - phone function affected ( which I think is unlikely ). In either case you still need to flash either full rom or just modem file

You mean you just change the kernel to ext4 ( Modaco R3 ?? ) or you also converted the file system to EXT4 ??
Actually changing kernels and fs conversion to ext4 will not delete any apps/data
Can you describe what you actually did ? There could be a misstep you have done
What is Your original rom ? Please also advise what is now the firmware specs on your tab : Settings/About device - build number, Kernel version and baseband

Google for this file - plenty available in web : gapps-hdpi-20101114-signed.zip
This file contains several default google apps . Unzip it, locate the market apk and try installed it
What other apps missing ?

I swap between Digi and another provider. When I use Digi, sometimes the traffic will drop or hang. It's seems to be very common not only on the Tab but my previous Samsung i780 as well. I can conclude that this is a Digi issue. What you can do is to get another provider's SIM and try it out. The thing is that the place I use Digi is at it's borderline based on the map in Digi 3G/BB website.
