some qustion i need to ask. why is there diff between a 50mm f1.4 nikkor and a 24-70f2.8 nikkor in terms of brightness. i set both on the exact same setting and yet the 50mm are much more brighter. settings are F5.6 iso 200 1/250

QUOTE(mmohdnor @ Feb 14 2011, 01:03 AM) but does the price fit my original question or not .. 1.5k below ... or 2.0k below? 16-85mm seems a good choice. but might burst ur budget.i was asking if with 1.5k what lens is nice to replace 18-55 ... and then with <2k what lens i can get also. (best bang for buck of course) else.. get a 18-105mm VR. thou is a kit lens for D90. but it's certainly a good lens. keep d rest of ur budget for a 3rd party UWA lens like tokina 12-24 or 11-16mm. Added on February 14, 2011, 1:53 am QUOTE(aldosoesilo @ Feb 14 2011, 01:08 AM) depedns wat u shot lo.for walkabout, travel... i suppose my UWA is on my camera most of the time. hardly shoot anything above 100mm unless u're are shooting like a sniper, zoom into the small details and cant walk towards it This post has been edited by daze: Feb 14 2011, 01:53 AM |

I think it is because of the shorter barrels (usually, and also lesser elements).
Take 85G and 70200 VRII for example, more light loss due to the longer barrel of VR2 and also more elements inside. |

QUOTE(celciuz @ Feb 14 2011, 01:55 AM) I think it is because of the shorter barrels (usually, and also lesser elements). Not really la. I tried Sigma 12-24 and Nikkor 24mm f/1.4GTake 85G and 70200 VRII for example, more light loss due to the longer barrel of VR2 and also more elements inside. Sigma makes the VF damn dark while 24mm bloody bright Sigma so short also ma |

Bear in mind the 1224 is a zoom lens, more elements inside.

QUOTE(KTCY @ Feb 14 2011, 02:01 AM) Let's say everything else is the same, light loss and etc in the 2 lens the 24 f/1.4 would be brighter in the viewfinder. But when you shoot at same settings, let's say 24 f/2.8 for both lens. Outcome should be same, but the 24mm would be brighter at even f/2.8 due to lesser elements thus lesser light loss. |
