Actually i believe for lens, grey set doesnt come with warranty at all beside provided by the shop alone. Its still international warranty for the normal one.

U need to understand the meaning of grey set. If u buy a US set in Malaysia for example, then it is not covered. But if u buy that US lens in US, or HK lens in HK, then u bring to Malaysia or anywhere else, got defective, it should be covered.

that one all i know la...only applies for certain countries like US.
so if u buy a lens in say UK, go back to US, US nikon will honor the warranty.
but malaysia is a different story.

Grey set=no warranty/you're betting your luck
Local warranty=warranty only covers at the place/country you bought the product
International warranty=warranty covers at all the listed countries

Most probably your friend's lens are local warranty set. All original nikon lenses selling in malaysia are international warranty set.

maybe if buy in malaysia local nikon set can claim in other countries...but looks like nikon malaysia wont entertain other countries...seems warranty card must state nikon malaysia on it.
