Just wanna ask you guys here, how much does calling a Dell Tech cost? I need them to dismantle my lcd and get the f***ing ant out. They say this one is not covered under the warranty.

Any ideas?

still under warranty? if yes, call @ email. i emailed them. free laugh.gif

if no, im not sure how much it'll cost for the replacement. but u can try what i've done regarding ants..
i bought it at Giant supermarket, its called ant trap. its kinda like a trap, luring the ants to take some of the trap's gel > bring it to other ants > they eat it > dead laugh.gif

Yes, it is still under warranty, and its not even a month old yet!

I called already, and this is from the tech support from Australia, it is not covered under the warranty. (Called on weekends, and the backup team is from Australia)

ok.. called Dell Malaysia today and was transfered from one rep to the other before i actually talked to a awesome tech. Will get my hinge replaced soon. waiting for Dell service center Kuching branch to reach me. Initially they asked me to replace with a new one with quotation mad.gif .. but i mentioned this http://en.community.dell.com/owners-club/a...0.aspx#19717780 to the rep and specifically mentioned ChrisM. It took the rep 1+ minute to refer to his superior and voila! case taken. rule of thumb for those who havent call yet.

1. remember the service tag no.
2. remember the service tag no. (yes, its important)
3. if they suggest to extend warranty, let them finish and mention about the official forum above.
4. mention this thread post no #1153 frm jsc_tidus if needed.
5. be happy.

oh ya. the awesome rep name is Ka Siong frm support Penang. thanks alot to him and ChrisM frm dell.

You are very well-off, putochip123. I guess that your business of selling Dell laptops has been providing you with handsome profit, enabling you to own many laptops. I am very much envy of you.

putochip123, please do not take it wrong way. It is a genuine compliment from me and contains no hidden ill intention.

Wow, an ant getting into your LCD screen is considered an Act of GOD. Even if they open the LCD,they cant take the ant off.

By the way, quoted price for a new LCD for M15x will cost you about RM877 plus installation engineer.

Damn.

no worries. contact them and mention the link that i post above. FYI, the local service tech reached me through phone today. the hinge will be replaced Monday next week (as i am travelling now). No pictures was required and no fuss. as for your warranty, mine was expired on 21/2/2011, basic warranty. replace them soon and refer to this post #1 http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-...nge-design.html.

"The phone/email/chat Technical Support will need to verify which LCD Assembly you ordered via the Service Tag number. They will look up your Service Tag number, get the LCD Assembly part you originally ordered and then see if the new part is available.
* Soft Black WLAN LCD Assembly (Old part GNJW3, New part 40GMX)
* Soft Black WWAN LCD Assembly (Old part YYYV5, New part 8JJT2)
* Black WLAN LCD Assembly (Old part 757TW, New part 4FFHC)
* Black WWAN LCD Assembly (Old part VT7K8, New part R2Y7G)
* Gray WLAN LCD Assembly (Old part PKYWD, New part YMM9R)
* Gray WWAN LCD Assembly (Old part 6CVDV, New part KKH9C)

NOTE – Not all of these parts are in stock so make sure the technician checks before setting up the service! I do not have a timeline on when all the parts will be in stock. All you can do is keep checking with Dell Support in your region.

Of course, all M11x-R1/R2 customers can request the onsite service to get the new hinges. Out of warranty M11x-R1/R2 customers will be provided a one time onsite service to get the new hinges. As far as I know, this is a global initiative. It will take us some time to notify all Dell agents globally" - ChrisM

do check your service tag no with dell website. currently cant find mind in listed..

i also gave Dell a call regarding my M11X hinge, which only recently started showing the same symptoms as all the other M11X with hinge problems. it just took 5 minutes and i've got someone coming in tomorrow to fix it. no questions asked. (though mine is still way under warranty). smile.gif
