QUOTE(wilsonjay @ Feb 9 2011, 01:39 PM) so i still can get my hinge fix even though my warranty expired? cuz i think its gonna end in march... yes my friend. regardless of our warranty, they'll replace it with the improved hinges. however few things come to mind though:1. method of recall (notice? phone call through dell? mail?) 2. does this program cover us Alienites from Malaysia? lets cross our fingers, toes included, that this program will proceed with us included.. He was also our liase especially for m11x users. His effort in this hinge issue is tremendous. Lol. His based in US I think. |

QUOTE(wilsonjay @ Mar 9 2011, 10:04 PM) damn hopefully their willing to change my hinge for free cuz my warranty is due end of this month, my laptop lid has been open since 2 months no worries. contact them and mention the link that i post above. FYI, the local service tech reached me through phone today. the hinge will be replaced Monday next week (as i am travelling now). No pictures was required and no fuss. as for your warranty, mine was expired on 21/2/2011, basic warranty. replace them soon and refer to this post #1 http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-...nge-design.html."The phone/email/chat Technical Support will need to verify which LCD Assembly you ordered via the Service Tag number. They will look up your Service Tag number, get the LCD Assembly part you originally ordered and then see if the new part is available. * Soft Black WLAN LCD Assembly (Old part GNJW3, New part 40GMX) * Soft Black WWAN LCD Assembly (Old part YYYV5, New part 8JJT2) * Black WLAN LCD Assembly (Old part 757TW, New part 4FFHC) * Black WWAN LCD Assembly (Old part VT7K8, New part R2Y7G) * Gray WLAN LCD Assembly (Old part PKYWD, New part YMM9R) * Gray WWAN LCD Assembly (Old part 6CVDV, New part KKH9C) NOTE – Not all of these parts are in stock so make sure the technician checks before setting up the service! I do not have a timeline on when all the parts will be in stock. All you can do is keep checking with Dell Support in your region. Of course, all M11x-R1/R2 customers can request the onsite service to get the new hinges. Out of warranty M11x-R1/R2 customers will be provided a one time onsite service to get the new hinges. As far as I know, this is a global initiative. It will take us some time to notify all Dell agents globally" - ChrisM do check your service tag no with dell website. currently cant find mind in listed.. |

QUOTE(deathbringer @ Mar 10 2011, 05:04 PM) i also gave Dell a call regarding my M11X hinge, which only recently started showing the same symptoms as all the other M11X with hinge problems. it just took 5 minutes and i've got someone coming in tomorrow to fix it. no questions asked. (though mine is still way under warranty). Do update us regarding the the serial no. bro. Lol.This post has been edited by raven143: Mar 10 2011, 07:14 PM |

QUOTE(Q-fays @ Mar 10 2011, 06:47 PM) May i Know how to send via email regarding m11x hinge problem? who to suppose I send email? its faster if u call them. i've tried email but never got a reply. its ok to call them. the rep will ask where is your current location. do mention that u r a student. its easier. i saw instances that the repair was made in a hotel when a customer was on travelling.because now I at shah alam study so difficult for me.So I want it to do it in Ipoh(hometown). how many day took for this kind of problem? I think my hinge totally failure. my graphic card I don't know what happen ,when it play it become slow suddenly. |

QUOTE(deathbringer @ Mar 11 2011, 12:06 AM) how would i be able to check the serial number? does it show on the lid itself or do i have to look at the box it came in? I think you should try to match the serial which the tech brought with the serial on my previous post. During tue installan, take some picts.. LOL... note the difference of the old hinge with the new ones.. especially the connector of the body to the screen part.. cause that's where the hinge fail. |

QUOTE(GreaseMonkey90 @ Mar 11 2011, 01:23 AM) The machine normally work well more than six months.. depending on your usage though. Mine broke after 5 months usage. Or you're the lucky few with a good hinge.. LOL |

QUOTE(deathbringer @ Mar 14 2011, 12:29 PM) just got my lid changed. didn't get a chance to see the box (and code) for the lid as the tech guy was keeping it. but i did ask him if this is the newly designed hinge and he had no idea. he did mention that this is the same lid (i.e. same code) that he replaced for many other M11x users olver the past couple of months....so it must still be the old version. You really should change to the improved version. It's Dell responsibility to adhere to their own promises. Not all of us have the luxury like you do.. like myself, my warranty ran out last month. So we must make sure the lid is properly and correctly replaced.but anyways, my M11x hinge is not a problem anymore (for now). if anything does happen, my warranty runs till 2013 |

QUOTE(deathbringer @ Mar 14 2011, 07:40 PM) but since it's already been repaired and the problem solved, i can't really fault them for not giving me the improved version. it's not in their policy to provide the customer with the latest and greatest fix, so long as they solve the initial problem in the first place, which in my case, was a broken hinge. Like I said ma man, dell promised that they'll replace all of damaged hinges with the new ones. I'd rather go with the prevention option, which in this case, the improved hinge. There are cases where laptops when returned for service comes back with different prob such as fans, hd, etc.. i' just sayin.. I think as customers we should demand what was promised to us in terms of quality and service. Not all of us has the means to purchase extra warranty. Like myself, I'm content with the basic warranty as alienware is considered top tier gaming pc/laptop but that was prior to the hinge prob. Furthermore, for the premium price we paid for.the lappy, at least we're entitled for the best service from the best gaming rig right company right?imho, it's best to invest in a warranty agreement that should last as long as u want to hold on to your laptop, which for me is a maximum of 3 years. |

finally saw the result of the new hinge today (was away when its installed). definitely felt more sturdy, 'heavy' and stable relatively compared to the old hinge.
