i'm not sure if this is a silly question, but i'm going to ask anyway, is it possible to do partial BT? Eg: i have an installment plan with hsbc for my iphone which i intend to continue, so say tomorrow i go swipe 10k, issit possible to just BT that 10k (without touching my iphone installment) to say AMEX?

Trying hard to understand what are you trying to say. Let's try
When you do installment ... the lump sum already become small payment. So it will look weird that you are actually BT more than what you owe to the bank right ? Unless of course you intend to close the other cc then might as well terminate the installment plan and do a full BT.

On another note, I hope all the folks here will be mindful on how they present their fact about the BT waiver. I'm concerned that there's increasingly many want cards with free GST. IMHO, the real consideration would be to use cc which best suit your lifestyle. E.g SCB Titanium does not have free GST waiver but I'm very sure folks who has it does not cancel it, pay the GST and become the envy of those who can't apply for it.

I don't want to sound harsh but if you can't pay RM50 then please don't bother to use cc. Use cash.
CC rewards you when you spend ... never ever chase a cc just because of the freebies. You are unlikely to have a happy ending that way.

Lets just make it easier. Is it possible to do partial BT from one credit card to another?

I want to keep my hsbc because i love the card and use it all the time but also want to take advantage of AMEX's 0% BT for a large purchase.

I've never done BT in my life, so not too sure

Existing installment plan cannot do BT to another card while the new transaction as you mentioned going to swipe 10k tomorrow can be BT to another card (for new transaction, must wait it appear on the statement b4 apply for BT). This is not consider partial BT.

Partial BT eg:
Any existing outstanding balance without installment plan = RM25000
Apply BT to another card = RM15000
Balance outstanding on existing card = RM10000

Full BT eg:
Any existing outstanding balance without installment plan = RM25000
Apply BT to another card = RM25000
Balance outstanding on existing card = RM0

Hope that this will answer your question... icon_idea.gif
P/S: Amex & Maybank CC is offering the best BT in town. 0% for 12mths.

actually i did do a bt on a card which owe nothing since the bt doesn't require statement, just provide the a/c info

Added on December 20, 2010, 10:54 pmif not mistaken its cimb card to maybank card
anyway, who can swipe for me 2k and gv me the cash? i'll pay for the 2% charged by the bank
the reason is MBF card is offering 3 years of free interest if u make minimum payment rite? if i take the 2k and put into FD i still earn 2.75% rite?
so the question is whether its worth the effort or not since i still need to make minimum payment each month
the same can be said abt 0% interest for 12 months since u need to pay the monthly installment

BT is more worth.

Say you swipe Rm10k, and u do BT, then u can put ur cash Rm10k to put in the bank for FD and enjoy the FD interest rates.

Not the best but among the best. CIMB/DA have been offering 0% BT for 12 months for quite some time already.

I don't think so.....Let's say if BT of RM30000 (eg: a Platinum cc) to another card & use the money to deposit to FD & enjoy up to 3.3% interest (latest offer from Affin bank), that will be an income of RM990 per year (at least min RM448 after paying RM2500 every month x 12) by just keep on paying 12 installment on time to the other bank. Just a simple job with an attractive income that might help you to pay off your car yearly insurance premium... rclxm9.gif
And what about if you BT 2 or 3 cards....huh! rclxub.gif

Hi people, I'm quite new at this credit card stuff
Currently I'm holding a RHB platanium and I plan to change to other banks that offers better cash back for Petronas.
Please enlighten, thanks

Had you been reading the thread, you'll be enlightened. Not a place to be lazy in here and expect to be spoon fed just because you asked nicely.Seek the cards under OCBC and you are on your way for enlightenment. You are on your own from here, now go to OCBC!
