for those who are not aware, please note that Alliance Bank has discontinued their travel insurance benefit for air ticket purchase. Got confirmation from CS today.

Perhaps add a list of cards providing complimentary travel insurance in first post

ur welcome.

if ur annual salary is rm36k, go for OCBC Titanium. 5% rebate at all petrol station.
the best card for petrol rebate so far.

regarding installment, u want do it at merchant or flexi payment?
flexi payment is convert retail purchase (full amount swipe) into installment (call/sms bank later).
this is useful for merchant that dont offer installment plan.

cimb petronas only give rebate at petronas. useful if u pump with them only.
their flexi payment is free for 10 months on hospital, insurance and education.
others, 2% for 10 months or 4% for 20 months.

ambank also offer flexi payment free for 6 months and 12 months.
their petrol rebate is 2% at all petrol station (ambg carz visa/mc).
min requirement is rm24k/year.

pbb also offer flexi payment free for 6 months or 1.5% for 12 months (all transaction).
but their petrol rebate is at esso/mobil only (pbb esso/mobil visa), between 0.5% to 5% (tier-based).
the min req is rm18k/year.

u choose urself smile.gif

Cutting your card in half and surrendering it to HLB is good enough that you have cancelled the account. In your letter to HLB clearly state this fact and the branch where you did the above action. Better if you can remember the officer's name. Word the letter in a firm manner pointing out to HLB that they are in the wrong and you not willing to to pay for their mistake.

CAll CS and check if they got the right contact number. Bought Air Asia tickets recently and the OTP was sent to my hp automatically.

Got my UOB statement today and it was highlighted that Effective 1st March 2011, Travel Accident Insurance Coverage for all Platinum cards will be discontinued. Well it is indeed a surprise that Alliance and UOB are terminating this benefit. More cards to follow? For me will be buying air tickets with my EON Visa Signature which gives Medical Insurance Overseas on top of Travel Insurance.

im not qualified for OCBC titanium tongue.gif

abt the installment, that depends on the merchant,
if the merchant got what i need than i can use it,
if not have to try the flexi payment.

in terms of petrol rebate,
it seems ambank is the way to go,
but with cimb, they got the sunday rebate,
which is pretty attractive,
i have to calculate somemore btwn those 2.

anyway, thanks a lot for the recommendations,
really informative r u guys notworthy.gif

After going thru my 2011-01-11 ocbc ti statement, the rebate calculated is based on statement month.

Rebate cap of RM100+RM20 applies for transaction btw 12-12-10 to 11-1-11
*
Hmm... so we can get max RM120 then. Stupid OCBC CS !!!
At least it's better than OCBC capping it at RM50 between 12-12-10 to 11-01-11

cimb petronas min req is rm24k/year. make sure u qualified. if not, bye2 to cimb petronas too sweat.gif

btw, cimb sunday rebates are till 30/6 only, and each month capped at rm50.
so if u can get max rebate every month starting feb, u can get back rm300.
that amount can cover gst for cimb already, also for another card (if u applied), and still get profit of rm200 smile.gif

I did. I mentioned that all the cancellation process was done in the HLB branch office. Yet, they replied that there is no record of my cancellation request received at their end.

I'm now waiting for their reply if they can waive the GST. If it can't be done, then probably will follow your advice. This time a letter in a FIRM manner telling them it's not my fault & i'm not willing to pay. Will make a trip to the branch also & see if i can still identify the officer who cut my card. Also waiting for reply from BNM. Let's see what will happen next.

er, did you email direct to them or just CC?
better email direct, put in the TO column, else they will not reply, will just monitor

but from my experience, whenever bnm is involved, direct or cc, banks will response fast laugh.gif

i've had experience with MBB, citi and PBB doh.gif
