What intention?
I believe your savings after rent + necessity will at least be equivalent to a whole month salary back home.

that's why i opt to stay in JB even my office is in Yio Chu Kang. rental is crazy in Singapore. And JB isn't really that not safe like u all describe la. If you are talking City Square or Taman Sentosa Area, then yes, i can feel the unsafeness in that area. But i stay in Johor Jaya, All those shopping center and surrounding area looks good to me, and got those Malaysia feel. Not like in City Square where it is dominate by Bangla. Also no Rempit in my area. Rempit mostly hang around Angsana/Skudai area. You just need to know where to live if u wanna stay in JB.

??? why resign? have you consider the long term prospect in SG?

salary increment is better in SG. Don't just look at current salary.

Still, "assuming" the base salary in SG is $2k, after the rent $500k, food, travel, phone and basic miscellaneous expenses $500. You still have $1000, which is about RM2350-2380

Ok now, "assuming" the base salary in MY is also RM2000, if you don't pay rent, don't pay for dinner, your gross savings will be RM2000-(travelling, lunch)
If you were to work in Malaysia, you still pay $$ to family, $$ for PTPTN, $$for car loan for family.

So, where can we save more? Net savings in SG, if we are disciplined enough, will be equivalent or in fact more than our net salary in MY, assuming same position of work.

Plus, lower individual tax rate, more transparent working environment, etc etc.

so u get the point. in Malaysia, it is not possible to have saving at all. i dont rent a room, but with petrol, lets say RM500 for ptptn, RM500 for car loan, RM500 for parents then RM500 for petrol and food ( shocking.gif ).
In Singapore, there is rental. $500 for rental, $500 for food etc, giving parents RM1000(coz workin in sgp ofcuz need more) $400 gone. another $400 for ptptn + car. left $200, every three months the car need servicing, every year need road tax. every chinese new year extra $$$ for parents. so in the end all the saving gone.

Same i give parents Rm1000, and promised to buy a car. Haha.

Well well, like that one lo. so much commitments. But look at the brighter side, when u get promoted / increment, your salary increases but commitments remain. So save the increment amount lo.

If I were to work in KL I need to rent a room and buy a car, so its about the same as SG, but life here is more comfortable, for a single guy without commitments yet. At least don't have to worry about jam, accidents, break in...Haha

But then even though you save like almost 1 month salary for malaysia job. Yet you spend most of your days in Singapore and not in Malaysia. As if you are always go back JB and do shopping >.<. Unless you are planning to go back Malaysia to enjoy your life after few years of living in Singapore. brows.gif

Yes, you do save alot of money if playing currency conversion, yet you are still in Singapore, live in Singapore, and work in Singapore. Just like if I work in Australia. I will say my saving is almost 3 months of your salary in Malaysia. But then, you still live in Australia. You spend most of your things in Aus. Of course, I will be having good times in spending clothes during CNY though. But you cant bring so much thing back to Aus cause most probably they will charge you during airport. >.<

Easiest question is.... Have you guys plan to settle in Singapore rather than staying and work in Malaysia from now on? Or generally feel like going back Malaysia after years of working?

i am not sure if your info of rate is correct, coz i've been told for tampines area $450 is considered expensive (mine is 450) and that should be the rate for area like ang mo kio

I look at all aspects. Like Kranji, the company is located at industrial area (i think), only one bus. hardly can see any cab. if i work late, cant catch the last bus then on-call cab? for the job it requires alot overtime. one or two times is ok, but if long term, i think most people will feel annoying eventually. and no matter how good the company is, the emotion will definitely make some influences. That company is really good. thats why i am in a dilemma....

So far i've been asking around and 450 for an ang mo kio common room is very cheap, if not impossible to find unless you look for store room.

if you still stay in SG and continue to work in SG then why need to get back the taxed money (unless you really work less than 180+ day within a year). Just find another jobs and IRAS will compute your tax base on your total annual income.

Added on January 27, 2011, 4:18 pmalso, why worry about paying tax while you are having a good paying job. I will be sad if I work for years and not contribute any income tax becouse my annual income is still within the "tax free zone". I was happy when I got taxed for the first time.

uh what i meant is the procedure is troublesome. and i am not rich. i heard that some ppl work less than 183 days and got taxed even they still working in singapore. but they have to go IRAS and give proof so on, then they will be paid back later.

No need, scan/email/phonecall is sufficient. If they have to pay you back, they will transfer the money to your bank account.

Thats the point I'm trying to make, spending money back in Malaysia. Car loan, PTPTN, Parents. They will be in ringgit.
I think this debate has been around for quite some time.. spending in Singapore, gadgets, imported goods, western meals, chocolates like Ferrero Roche, are generally 50% of what i pay in ringgit.

I'm looking at the material I can enjoy/own in Sg as compared to Malaysia and pay my obligations back home in Ringgit and they will be a smaller fraction of my SG salary as compared to MY. Anyway part of my salary will go to my family to give them a more comfortable life, and they spend in RM biggrin.gif So it is not necessary to look at where I spend the $$ but how I spend them.

As for now I'm still considered young and I will not restrict myself to Singapore only, if given better opportunity elsewhere.
Not cheap to settle down in Sg though.

but if u stay in JB and work in SG, that will be the best deal. i am a very asian person, so i can't afford to live in other country coz i must eat rice everyday. initially though of other countries like u do. but after a while. i find it quite comfortable working in SG and living in JB. i get to enjoy my usual KL lifestyle in JB (coz JB is similar to KL, only thing is less people speak cantonese) and i get my salary in SGD. i also get to enjoy cheap properties and cheap car price. only thing is need to cross the immigration daily. but that is not a big deal for me. coz if u can catch the timing, then u won't feel that it is very stressful of waste time. my travel time is not that long compare to living in SG. i just need to spare another 30-40mins a day and i get to spend my salary 2x more than i could in Singapore.
