QUOTE(seantang @ Dec 3 2010, 11:47 AM) many canteen food are import from Malaysia, maybe not those in orchard road. NEA and AVA only care if they prepare the food in clean and safe way. Where you buy or how much you pay for that packet of rice, sugar etc is not so easy to monitor. |

QUOTE(seantang @ Dec 3 2010, 02:25 PM) I think intelligent illegal canteen operators will not put themselves in a position where they subject the inventory for their illegal activity to daily customs scrutiny. not all canteen are like MNC and have to be audit. They are not so rich to avoid some risk. You are thinking too much. |

QUOTE(shanelai @ Dec 7 2010, 10:21 AM) Haha.... live so kang kor to survive like that. in shortterm you can do it but i doubt if you 365 days or years to survive just like tat. even if you eat the same thing everyday you also cannot make it right. It is common on those early days for new student/worker in SG. They don't have much money until they can find a job and survive till pay day. If your have a high paying jobs then you are having a better starting point, don't need the "survival".no need "+" and the rest remained. On those early days I don't buy drinks from the drink stall. Just ta pao normal food and make my own drinks. Best meal was $2 nasi kari from a Mamak stall near boonlay CC. |

QUOTE(Shinichi @ Dec 8 2010, 08:29 AM) I took it once, depart from the carpark near ICA building. Ticket office is just outside Lavender MRT. I saw people actually hand carry those big thick blanket in transparent plastic bag, maybe they got good deal in SG so they buy extra. It was mid night bus, once on highway the aircond was freaking cold. Those people start to take out the blanket to cover themselve If possible, I prefer flight. |

QUOTE(mrportable @ Dec 9 2010, 01:29 PM) I had student pass before and PR re-entry permit now. When you change your passport in Malaysia, you can only use the new passport (the only valid passport) to enter SG. If the SG officer will scan your passport and your Spass as usual, the system will not find any of your record so they have to do process your entry manually. They will let you in and ask you to update your passport info soon. Last time I will show the officer my pass, old passport and new passport together and they know what to do. Now, after I get the new passport I can transfer my re-entry permit to new passport online and print-out an official document for custom clearance. I can leave SG with old passport and come back with new passport and the print-out. I can't find the link to transfer Spass to new passport on ICA website, maybein MoM website. |

For IT stuff, I do online check to decide WHAT to buy and how it look like. Then go Hardwarezone.com to download the pricelist from a couple of SLS shop.
Get ready a shopping list on what item to buy from which shop, take lift to the top floor of SLS and shop downward. Be focus and you will end up with the system you configured, not due to their sales talk. Warranty? Most item have their manufacturer service centre elsewhere (like fujitsu is in Funan) so it make no diff where you buy it. I am not sure will the centre handle service request for product sold in Malaysia. |

QUOTE(melancholy @ Jan 14 2011, 08:10 PM) mm, it's a family-run, modestly-sized business dealing in the import and export of aquatic livestock... SG bus and MRT WILL be there as schedule and the operation is closely monitored. Let me tell you my experience of some Malaysian bus operator. Added on January 14, 2011, 8:12 pm hmm, i go by bus, same as my dad... i hate taking pt because i can reach the office probably in 15-20 mins by car, but mrt and bus takes more than an hour!! who the hell says singaporean public transport is efficient?! 1) detour to their workshop for repair while the whole bus load of passenger stuck on-board. 2) On main road, driver ask "ada orang turun?" If no aswer then the driver skip the entire Taman route. Good luck if you are waiting for bus at the taman. 3) Bus driver ask you to get down at the entrance of taman just because he is rushing to go home. ... so, malaysian bus operator is more efficient? I think SG bus company dont need to learn from them. QUOTE(kl87 @ Jan 18 2011, 08:07 PM) hey , bros , dun nid to start a fight for the PR or not to be PR matters. there is a quota of how many EP can a company apply base on the number of SG/PR employee they have and the ratio is different for special company such as maid agency or construction. So if others being equal, the comany can only employ PR or SG once it hit the quota. All i asking is about the employer preference with PR or non-PR . ........ If you are EP holder who rent a room in SG and intend to do that for a long period (say 10, 20 years) then it will be good to apply PR and pay CPF. Yes EP can take back more salary per month but what about the rental you?? I use the CPF to pay for my HDB or you can see it as "committed rental" and I can only buy a HDB if I am PR or Singporean. So I get to "keep" the room rental as it is now a form of investment. I prefer EP if I am stay in JB work in SG. |

QUOTE(Lester1987 @ Jan 19 2011, 12:28 PM) save the cash money from employer and self CPF contribution. save and wait for a good time (or bargain) to buy condo. You have less restriction to rent out condo than a HDB. IMO, the hot money is pushing up the price way over its true value. Time will come, you have to time your purchase but if you don't have enough cash in hand when the opportunity jump on you then you are not in the game. People paid a few 100k less from current market price for a condo during last economy downturn. The price of a HDB is more than enough to buy you a SG car and a landed JB house with nice garden. If you or your family are ok to drive in SG daily for work/school, why pay more for maid, SG petrol and small HDB? Added on January 19, 2011, 3:56 pm QUOTE(dokidoki @ Jan 19 2011, 02:44 PM) good la...my company dont want pay cpf for me..cos they say if they pay..then alot other will ask for it too.. ??? why not ask other to make request together. QUOTE(kl87 @ Jan 19 2011, 04:01 PM) if you stay in SG then you are at the mercy of rental "market". While you wait for your opportunity you have to endure the owner keep pushing for higher rent else "want to sell house", "O$P$" kind of stunt. Then move here and there after a few years until you get your condo. Some of us want to start a family and travelling to and fro btw JB and SG is not a good idea especially when you have young children. They need a permanent place to call home so they want to "lock" the rental by buying a HDB. Once you sign the dotted line, you arrange your "rental" with the bank. My installment is lower than renting the same type of unit in my area. |

QUOTE(kl87 @ Jan 19 2011, 04:49 PM) for a year or two , yes. but a MY double storey house monthly installment may be lower than your SG ROOM rental base on the currency rate for the past few years. If you know you will be here for long term, should consider the investment. Say you buy a MY house and rent SG room while working here, after 20 years the amount of SG rental you gave out is enough to buy another MY house while the other MY still have outstanding loan. Why not use that huge amount of rental money to subsidy a property that you can sell when you leave SG for good? my installment is about half of the rental of entire unit at current market price. How many % of your salary you use as rental? When you have the money it is hard to resist from buying at least one property in SG. |

QUOTE(kl87 @ Jan 20 2011, 04:47 PM) y should i nid to rent a room in Sg if i got my own properties, like in Johor ? that's why I said in earlier post IF I stay in JB and work in SG I prefer EP BUT there will be time when one prefer to have a SG home. You will think differently when you marrried and have kids or when your are older and weaker.IIRC during my time, to buy a resale HDB from open market I must be married (2 PRs) and household income must not exceed $5000. If I am jobless (so that household income is less than 5k for a few month) then bank may not approve my loan, if my salary too high HDB may ask me to buy condo instead of buying their "subsidised" HDB. The household income cap is now $8000/month. You may think your current salary is too low to buy a HDB, I just want to remind you that you can't buy HDB when your salary is too high. Now, does it make sense to you why so many fresh grad newly wedd SG couple die die must buy HDB before their combined income cross the $8000 mark? However, buying a house is a big long term commitment for most of us. You have to decide for yourself regardless what others say. Utimately, you are the one who service the installment. We are lucky to be able buy a house that possible to clear loan within our life time unlike Japan. Will SG become next Tokyo? I don't know, but when possible I want to have a roof over the head for me and my next generation in MY or SG. This post has been edited by r1v3r: Jan 20 2011, 06:18 PM |
