QUOTE(tookinen @ Dec 16 2010, 08:48 AM)
guys,
do you think it's worth it to work at sg for 6 months on a SGD5k pay?
*
It would be a stepping stone for you if you intend to work here. However, you gotta note that staying (incl. working days/weekends/public holidays) in SG for less than 183 days, you are taxable as a non-resident at 15% flat. Which means, $4.5k of the $30k that you will be getting goes to IRAS, i.e. you will be getting only $500 on your last month pay.

However, if the employment period on your letter of offer exceeds 183 days, then you have nothing to worry about. Of course, you will still be taxed but it's much much lesser. And also note that, even if the employment period on your letter of offer exceeds 183 days. But your job is terminated (by either party) before the period ends, you are still liable for the 15% tax.

The best thing is, ask your employer to take care of the tax, be it >=183 days or not. rclxms.gif

It has got nothing to do with where you stay. As long as you are employed as a SG employee and drawing SG salary and will/have been doing this for more than 183 days in a calendar year, you will be regard as a 'resident' thus progressive resident rate.

Has anyone used the international calls service from SunPage?
My colleague claimed that it's much cheaper than the postpaid monthly $5 IDD service fee and it doesn't deduct your local minutes. I asked how cheap is cheap but he couldn't remember how much is he paying.. sleep.gif
I couldn't call SunPage to inquire cos it's not open today.

without a valid pass no, u cannot speak to the contact person... if i know i dont need to come here and ask...
*
If the question you want to ask is about your eligibility to stay in SG without a working pass, i believe you have to refer to ICA instead of MOM.

QUOTE(Celestia @ Dec 31 2010, 08:14 AM)
why is the work permits/EP getting rejected? i thought your employer applies them for you mean they are planning to hired you right?

btw been wondering do the employer applies for your the EP after you sign your offer letter or before?
*
Your employer submits EP application for you/plans to hire you doesn't mean MOM will necessarily approve it. They have the "Reject" button on the screen as well. Most common reason is skillset/experience not in demand in SG. Why does the employer need to hire a foreigner when a Singaporean can handle the job too?

And in most of the cases, the employer will apply the necessary work permits for you and it could be before/after you sign the offer letter.

Yeah if possible i will also avoid going to SLS but recently my PC freezes randomly. I've tried reformatting, changing RAM slots, unplugging GC. I've also done all sorts of tests in which the readings are kinda normal except for a 20KB bad sector in my HD.

So i need those SLS folks to check for me. Now the biggest challenge is to carry my PC down and look for a decent shop. =/

I tried fixing my company's pc at a service shop in funan 2nd top floor. The service is good and fast (next day for checking and replacing parts) with reasonable price (pc zone in those neighbourhood place took few days). Maybe they are free at that moment.

As what I have experienced. Funan gave me more confident than SLS in terms of customer service and reliability. I don't mind paying like 5-10% extra for trouble less device. Running up and down and get pissed off for computer error definitely not worth the money I save.

From the previous post I saw there are job opening in Apple. can pm me for the details? biggrin.gif Thanks a lot.
*
Mind telling me the name of the Funan shop?

Heh i don't work in Apple. Perhaps Lester1987 and bloggerblue can help. laugh.gif

was wondering if my office is in robinson road, whats are the available residential are surrounding that area and what is rent like for an intermediate bedroom with air-con?
*
Yes, Prudential is along Robinson Road, just next to 1 of the Raffles Place MRT exits. That area is a financial/business district thus there won't be any reasonably priced residential area for you to choose, unless you want to go for expat-style condos. In case you are not aware, Raffles Place MRT is an interchange station for NS and EW lines.

Utilities bill.

Why don't you renew in Malaysia Embassy first before you leave SG?

Can renew passport at the Msia embassy??
din know that.
How do u renew it? Does it costthe same and is the procedure and timing the same?
*
My passport is not expired yet so i haven't tried that myself but what i heard from a friend is that the fee is cheaper even after conversion. And they only handle standard renewal but not complicated cases like passport lost/damaged etc.

Just found this blog and i find it quite detailed.

Heya, do you guys have experience with any of these 3 hotels before? Need some feedbacks on hotel condition, conveniency and location as my parents (60 y.o.) are visiting next month and prefer to stay in Chinatown and short walking distance (5-10 mins) to MRT/hawker centres.

1. Hotel Re! - $378 for 3 nights.
2. Hotel 81 Osaka - $294 for 3 nights. (If not mistaken this is located in a neighbourhood and don't have much to see/shop/walk nearby?)
3. Hotel 81 Chinatown - $303 for 3 nights. (Wotif says usual price $300/night! Sure anot?)

Thanks.

No need, scan/email/phonecall is sufficient. If they have to pay you back, they will transfer the money to your bank account.

If you were here for the past 2 months, then ya, you will have to wait 30 days.
I suspect that their database refresh every month.
If you pass is approved during that time, maybe the IPA can get you in...not sure.
*
I initially thought it's gonna be 30 days too but when i asked the immigration officer when i was leaving SG, it's actually 20+ days. Not sure how they count that. Ask the officer what's the next date you are allowed to come in when you are passing through the custom.

You are not allowed to come in even if your pass is approved during that freezing period. Have confirmed this with ICA.

Yeah, finally got an offer from NUS! rclxms.gif  rclxms.gif  rclxms.gif  ideally date to start working is 3 May 2011. Now filling up the Employment Pass form and dependent form, and need to return them to NUS for application with MOM. I was wondering some sectors in the forms are needed to be filled by employer, or not. Another thing is NUS didnt say they will apply EP or S-pass for me, so which application should i tick? icon_question.gif  icon_question.gif
*
Your employer will fill in the sections like company profile, turnover etc. Put EP.
