Just wondering, for dynoing a CVT, which 'gears' that they use? (since its variable) MT usually 3rd while AT usually '2'.

by the way, the forte won the 'people's choice award' in the 2010 nst/cbt car of the year awards. so, not too bad for a car that trails behind the inspira in this poll here.

CVT got no definite gear....

Forte's 4 speed auto eats up 23% (124PS at crank)
Where else the Jazz's CVT eats up only 19% (110PS at crank)

there's lesser power loss to the CVT gearbox coz it doesn't have a torque converter unlike conventional AT boxes...hence the CVT gbox is definitely giving better results here =)

Kevin does have a point there. Nobody expects a car to have problems no matter how minor they are, so early in their life cycle. So far, ive heard of many of you having minor issues. Some even had more major issues like car jerking, etc. All these problems do not reflect well on the Forte and surely does not help the image of Korean makes.

I hope the Koreans are not sacrificying quality in their haste to produce cars to suit demands.

cant deny to see comment on forte problem on the forte thread, but if you read up japanese car thread, there are owners come out with the issue too. Kevin also complain about his city alot at city thread.

study show there are average 109 problem /100 vehicles.

so i think a few issue cannot use to judge that korean car having quality issue.

for the nst-maybank COTY this is how they measure...

'A panel of 9 judges comprising of motoring journalists and other distinguished personalities will be testing over 60 new and substantially facelifted models classified into 13 categories.
New cars launched between November 2009 and October 2010 qualify for COTY.
The evaluation criteria includes styling, value for money, comfort and ergonomics, performance, driving characteristics, safety, emotional appeal and after sales service.
The highest scoring vehicle in each category wins the award for “Best in Class”. The Overall Car of the Year will then be selected from the list of 13 category winners.'

..and all the COTY around the world more less about the same evaluation creteria..

Same criteria but different judges. Ure in Malaysia. Dont forget that.

Personally for me, I am on neutral ground.
I have not seen the Inspira personally, but I quite like the styling and kits given by Kia for the forte.

And I have yet to test drive either one of them, but i can tell you my choice will lean on Inspira as I am a fan of manual gearbox. Dont like the lazy feeling of driving an auto.

Base on the chart on all 4 cars (including the Jazz 1.5 CVT)

Best to the least efficiency transmission (power loss)
1) Jazz CVT (19.2%)
2) Vios (19.3%)
3) Satria Neo (20%)
4) Forte (22.5%)

Shouldn't the 'gears' selected should be as close as 1:1 ratio with the engine to get accurate result?

there is no "gears" in CVT...
fine if u want gears, it is only 1 gear with infinite ratio...
wink.gif

so theoretically it dont matter which "gears" they are in...

Interesting Campro got a 'boost' in 4.1k rpm, meanwhile Vios got boost in 5.7k rpm.

I'm very interested in power/torque graphs. Probably should pinned a thread for collection of stock cars' power/torque graph.

The purpose of dyno is to see the engine performance right? That can only be done by choosing 1:1 ratio. Else, we don't know whether its really the engine 'power' since the GB kept changing 'gears' to optimize the performance. Just like dyno a MT car with 1st gear, the torque will be higher than dyno in 3rd gear right hmm.gif
