Gormaz, is C# a newer version of C++? Or totally not related to C?

Erm, it's not a direct evolution of C++ like C++ was to C.
C# has no direct link to C++ from what I know

Was created by Microsoft as part of their .Net framework push.

The name was, according to wikipedia, more from the musical sense of # (which is a note that has to be played half a tone higher than others) to show it's a "better" programming language.
I think the closeness to C or C++ is not totally unwanted by Microsoft though smile.gif

From programming point of view, it's a language very close to Java really (personally I take it as Microsoft trying to copy Java success)

if the interviewee ask "why do u want to leave your current job?"; if my actual reason is that "i like my job, but i don't really gel with my colleagues and corporate culture", will it be ok for me to be honest? any opinion?

Gormaz,
Thanks. In music # is called sharp. Yes it means half a note higher as you mentioned. I am not a programmer but it al looks the same to me. I only know BASIC. I dont see a difference between BASIC and Java or C. Loops and conditions with almost the same syntax.

Leongal,
That is not a nice way to put it.
Cant fit in = not a team player.
Not into corporate culture = not adaptable.
Under further probe you will end up bad mouthing the company. Eg what part of the culture that you cant accept?

*almost*everyone gives the standard BS answer to this question. Seek new challenge, hope to deliver value to new assignment, etc.

@faceless: yar it's pronounced "C-sharp" also for the programming language smile.gif
For differences, like u said the "loops and co" are still there, since that's just the way the computer and algorithms theory are built (which are independent on which language you are writing), after that difference tends to be more on the functionality and use of doing things.

Like you may be able to do the same things in BASIC and in Java but it might take you twice as much time and 3-4 times the number of code lines, which make it harder to correct, take more space etc.
Or for doing more advanced stuff like networking, advance User Interface and co, it might not be implemented in BASIC etc.

At the end anyway all the languages are translated into machine code which will be the same for the computer, programming languages are created for easing the coding part for the human, for the computer it's all the same ^^

@leongal, yar you better be ready to have some very good explanation for the "Why?" question that is sure to follow.
Badmouthing previous company is usually frowned upon in an interview and saying "I don't really get along with my colleagues" might make the interviewer YOU were the problem, not them etc.

The usual BS about "wanting to learn new things or expand your horizons" usually works pretty well...

Is it advisable to answer this type of question by telling the truth. Such example would be, "I had a positive disgreement (if I can say so..) with the management especially the Technical Director and the CEO himself. It was about forging/faking Mill Certificates, cheating customers/client on Material supplied. Whereas the material originated from China, forces us to produce fake Mill Certificates on material such as SS 316L, UNS S31803, UNS 32570, ALLOY 825, and many more but with Letter head of our Principle (a Holland based company) copied every single format and change few data on material compositions, yet we do not get the materials from our Principle."

Our client/customers are big shots like ExxonMobil, Shell, Petronas, BP Chemicals, Talisman, MMHE, Ramunia, Asturi (formerly Amalgamated Metal Builder), Petra Resources, PFC Engineering, Kencana HL, Sime Darby Eng, and many more...

I've even explained, that I've refused to do the job but was force and threatened to be terminated of the position. Also I was afraid if I were to expose this forfeiture (Is this the right term for this type of crime?) to our Principle, they might charge me as well for being involved. Luckily there was no damage reported by customers due to our product but something serious could happen if this continues. For your info, our product are Gasket (Sealing product). It has been like almost 6 years now I'm in the company. Tried getting away from the company but no opportunities outside for me yet till date.

So far at 1 particular interview last 2 month, I answered that way by so that they know the real reason for me leaving current company. But sadly till date I've yet to receive any offer. sad.gif

Woot,
I like your answer. I think most people can except it. Try to keep it short. Telling long stories can reveal other area of weakness.

for them to know more about us?

another question: usually the interviewer will ask "do you have any questions?" i know it will be better for us to ask a few questions because this will show that we're interested with that position. however, the problems i faced in my 2 previous interviews is that, i asked them the questions during the discussion i had with the interviewers. which means that i have no questions to ask anymore at the end. how can i avoid such problem or what should i do if at then end i have no questions to ask because i already ask them during the discussion?

Human Nature,

It is because

A) I know what the job is.

B) I can show you that I know how to do the job.

C) I can show you that I know how to do the job profitably for you.

Out of curiosity, is it right for a candidate to ask "what's the pay range" when he/she is called up for an interview? And i mean not during the first interview but in the first call itself?

I ask this because a few of my friends practice this. They keep asking loads of questions on the phone when they are called up for interview as in during the first call. Some of the questions they ask includes:

-pay
-is training provided
-timing
-location
-benefits

Somehow i told them to keep these questions for the real interview and as for the pay range, keep it till the end of the first interview at least. But then, they told me its a norm to ask these questions and its a must so that you don't waste time attending the interview if it does not meet what you want.

And these are friends of mine of have been having trouble landing a job directly without the help of family and friends. They can hardly get calls for interview from Jobstreet (nonprofessional resume being one of the reason).

Would these questions be one of the reason of why they are finding it hard to secure jobs?

Hah, same answer for the same question.

There is pros and cons to your question. When I was doing HR, I hate candidates to ask questions (especially the ones you mentioned above) before the interview. If they want to ask so much, I might as well interview them over the phone. Once I shortlist someone, they had impressed me from what is in their resume. What remain if for me to access their attitude in which looking at their body language alone when they resposnse to the question "myself" will suffice. I usually hang up on them after the second question.
