I'm currently not happy with my job because of the management and the work mates. Thinking of searching for new job..my question is, is it okay to say bad things about the current employer that we want to quit working for if the interviewer ask us why we want to quit our current job? should I just tell the truth or made up some other excuses?
*
Interviewers dislike "whiners", so just tell them your previous job is not aligned to your personal goals, which is to [insert reason for joining new comp]

How about if they ask "would u cheat to win a competition" kind of question..
*
Depend on company. If the industry is regulated and compliance heavy, of course
"NO, I will win it fair and square with my own effort and expertise"

"Unless you have some suggestions to help brows.gif "

if the interviewee ask "why do u want to leave your current job?"; if my actual reason is that "i like my job, but i don't really gel with my colleagues and corporate culture", will it be ok for me to be honest? any opinion?
*
*almost*everyone gives the standard BS answer to this question. Seek new challenge, hope to deliver value to new assignment, etc.

hi,

i will attend interview next week for wintel level 1...but i dont have any experience on server....
anyone can help me send the example question...so i can prepare for the interview...

please send to my email - valquisser@gmail.com

TQ
*
well if you have no idea of how it is, i dont think looking at some interview questions will help. Perhaps you want to read up on some general concept of wintel and let them know you are a beginner who is willing to , learn.

can i know..how a non-professional resume can be?
& you also mention job application via jobstreet is not something reccomended...so would it be better to send resume by email or by hard copy?
*
what harm is it to apply via jobstreet? the other person may be a hotshot professinal who only gets headhunted to new appointments (the word "job" is for the rabble) and thus not savvy to applying through job portals, but are you?

I believe I have the skill and knowledge that is required for this position, based on the job description.
I am adaptable and will be able to blend into your ways of work.

shortlist depend on requirement. i'd shortlist at least 3 where i can so that there is a comparison point. but that also doesnt mean i will go through all 300 applications to shortlist, maybe if i find 3 shortlisted (after going through 50 applications) i'd stop already. sory to be lazy but sometime we cannot have the luxury of time to screen everyone.

QUOTE(iamwho @ Mar 22 2011, 01:28 PM)
Let's say you have worked in a company for less than 6 months and you have decided to leave simply because you cannot adapt to the current environment / culture in the company you are currently working with (politics, gossips, unfriendly people, etc). All these years you did not face such problems, only with this particular company.

How do you then answer an interview question that will be shot at you like this >> "why did you leave your present company in such a short period?"

If you answer the truth, you will be generalized as not capable of adapting to any work environment. Is it wise to tell the truth then? for YES and NO answers, please state why.

Thank you
*
You could always say that the actual job deviate too far from the job description, you prefer job that you can apply your strength in, the usual textbook answers.

No point to bring up the culture/people as that would put doubts in the interviewer on your ability to adapt to a work environment. Job role/description is a better reason.

Of course. "i would like an opportunity to work for a fine establishment that has strong branding bla bla bla just like [insert company name]"

.. good point ... but I of course statement of "i would like an opportunity to work for a fine establishment that has strong branding bla bla bla just like [insert company name]" cannot be applied to SMEs or small companies that does not have a strong branding tongue.gif
*
then you use their industry/environment as reason la, based on whatever it is you are applying for.

just dont say " i like the clerk she very pretty" and the interviewer says "thats my wife"

LOL...thanks...
Coz there was one interviewer said that I asked too many ques and it feels like challenge her authority. It was an awful experience.
*
Give her a break. Her authority issue stems from the fact that she gets abused by her husband at home, and her parents when she was young.

may i know how to answer questions like: how many companies hav u been for interview, wat are those? have u being offered? an so on??

thanks in advance
*
If I am HR I would ask because it may mean I need to expedite the process should I decide to hire you.

If you say you are offered X dollars eslewhere, I would have to take it with a grain of salt, I have no way to confirm unless you show me an offer letter, which you probably wouldn't want to.

However, some interviewer actually ask for the sake of asking which is really annoying and naive.

Yes, unfortunately for the candidate, the practice of offering the candidate their salary + X% top up still very widespread.

normally what is the value of X in the X% top up?
*
It depends on what method the HR cook up, or maybe its base on the bosses instruction.

A typical example would be for a post of "IT Manager".

Some malaysian survey says IT managers earn average of RM4,500.

So they might decide, ok, lets set the salary cap as 4,500 since "we're an average company".

Then you come in with current salary as 3,500 and ask for 5,000. In this case HR will offer you maybe +15% (cos they just pulled the number out from thin air) and tell the hiring manager its a "policy".

Then they'll go back and tell the boss they hired you for 4K achieving 11% savings on budget because that savings has been put into HR's KPI so they get a better bonus/increment or some crap.

Yes, there are many people out there who just wish to change line of work, work closer to home, not see their current boss stupid face and hear him bark at people all day long....

So long as your requirements are met, people will take it even if its a decrease

Sometimes ago, i read somewhere that it's best not to give away your salary expectation figure out first due to the fact that you could actually surprise that the company is willing to pay you more.
True, but more often its less tongue.gif

In any case, you should be happy your expected is met right?

if the interviewer asks me why i'm interested to join the company, can i say that one of the reasons is because the office is located near where i live? or should i just talk about the goodness of the company, its environment, etc instead?
*
as a candidate, it is better to say on the environment and job match/fit rather than "its near my house", even though its a factor. whats important is that you're willing to go to work daily, not how far. being near is a bonus.

personally i dont talk about the distance if i live nearby, as it may set certain expectations on the management side.

Cuz I hv a tendency of smiling all the time...
*

Be Cool and dont show to the employer/ Recruiter  that sign of Nervous

as simple as that
*
just be yourself.

but please dont smile if you are asked a question and you answer "i dunno lol"
