RVS4000 not even N.... why not couple a mikrotek with an N router like tp link? it would cost less than that... we are just home users... dont need such an advanced router lol
*
any other equipment in between btu and router, it'll only only add extra cables, and mess.
RB250GS is a good device. But i don't mind to add another 100 or so, if we can get a decent wireless router with manageable switch feature included.

the different is about RM100 only. Mikrotik RB750G is about RM310. It still more powerful, but it's routerOS advance features dealing with command line base. doh.gif

but still, the manage switch from mikrotik RB250GS is the cheapest of the cheapest solution. Nothing beat this one.

RSV4000 don't have WiFi feature, it is just a smart switch  tongue.gif

Just curious did you connect your FTTH BTU to the WAN port mapped with Vlan 500 tagging pppoe dialing like 615 or you are making RSV400 a switch? sweat.gif

Correct answer is the one in the email. Cancel your son's application and apply using your name. You'll then be able to cancel Streamyx FOC.
I would like to confirm this. TM CS informed me to use my wife's name for unifi since the previous streamyx was under her name. Or else they cannot convert it and you will be charge for cancelling streamyx.

Currrently I'm using as Bridge. I'm still tryout other configuration to connect directly to the RVS4000.

The RVS4000 supports VLAN management and PPPoE but it doesn't support PPPoE over VLAN AFAIK. It can only be used as a switch for Unifi, much like the RB250GS or the Procurve.

Really want a router like 615 with pppoe + vlan.

If I'm not wrong the Huawei HG850e can connect directly with the RVS4000 as PPPoE but the IPTV will not work with this kind of configuration, am I right?

If it's only going to used as a bridge, why now just use a normal 5port switch, with 2 routers?
1 router just for IPTV (provided my TM)
1 router, you can pick ur own fav model which supports DD-WRT. DD-WRT supports PPPoE and VLAN Tagging.

Currently i'm doing this, since the 3 mentioned models above can't dail a PPPoE then what's the benefit of it?

dd-wrt will work with pppoe over vlan but IPTV support is a hit or miss. I've heard some people managed to get iptv + pppoe over vlans working on the same dd-wrt router (linksys) but you have to find that particular unit which is outdated by todays standards (200mhz proc + 8mb ram).

I don't think you need to hook up a 5 port switch the Huawei BTU if you want to attach two vlan-aware routers to it. This is only needed for the Fiberhome BTU as it has port locking. You can do this of course but you're still relying on the DIR-615 for IPTV. Using a separate unit for bridging allows you to ditch the DIR-615 completely so it's up to you really smile.gif If you're happy with the DIR-615, you can just use the bridge mode guide anyway.

With the Fiberhome, this is a problem for some people as they have to keep 4 devices powered on. The challenge here was looking for a device which could easily replace the DIR-615 on any BTU model while using 3 devices at most.

Since those cisco/lnksys sme router does not support ppoe over vlan, we have to use extra device to replace dir-615. Either setup for bridge, or use layer 2 switch such as RB250gs

Sorry, what I was trying to said was, we can configure the Huawei HG850e and connect directly to the RVS4000 to do PPPoE, by using Prodigy's configuration guide. As for IPTV, it doesn't work with this kind of configuration. blush.gif

EDIT: the only other solution I can think of right now is swift my router to sit side my side with RB250GS, and turn another router to switch/ or add another switch in my room. sweat.gif

Thanks for the respond. I did call up TM CS @100 too and was advised I can cancel my Streamyx/fixed line subscription without having to incur any penalty charge. According to her, the subscription is based on installation address and not name of applicants. It appears that now the CS @ 100 and TMPoint outlet are providing conflicting advices from the email I've received from UniFi. rclxub.gif

If I get the RB250GS, any idea how to include a wireless router to it to share wireless connections.

Wow V7 already!!

I just voted +7 for the dir 615 since the router haven't crashed on me yet whistling.gif (granted I'm not a super heavy user). I will still get the RB250GS though since it's a nice switch, 1GB ports, very cheap and have good OS to boot.

RB250GS is just a switch so you still need a router on the VLAN 500 configured port. Just make sure that router is wireless capable.
