This really seem like TM line quality issue .....
I'm from Bukit Rimau Shah Alam, touch-wood so far so good ....
My take is that the Data Corruption is more of an equipment rather than line issue.

TCP/IP has been doing just fine for the last 40 years, correcting bad line issues, and presenting apps with error free data.
My office in DU in '93 was one of the first few to get a jaring leased line, but unfortunately it had the noisiest analog leased line ever. Ridiculous amount of packet loss (40%+), it would take forever to do anything with the underlying protocols retransmitting and retransmitting until things got through, yet, whatever made it through never ever had any data corrupt. That's just how the TCP works -- it guarantees reliable data.

The only way you'd see the kind of Data Corruption we're seeing here is with some faulty equipment, where the implementation of TCP is broken. Given the intermittent nature, it's probably related to some hardware not doing the right thing when it's being overloaded. In higher end equipment, a lot of TCP is offloaded to hardware these days.

HuaweiBTU + DIR-615. which I"m using..
no problem on torrents, iptv, normal surfing... just like everyelse.. .exe/.zip/.rar files which always kept corrupting..
Do you have any Ralink or Atheros router which can support dd-wrt [with vlan tagging] to connect BTU directly?
This is just to test & confirm either DIR-615 or line issue ...
/quote]

So far I've noticed it happens on things which are large and I believe (though haven't got enough data to be conclusive) that speed plays a role as well. When I limit the speed of the download (using software), it takes a lot longer before an error shows up. If I let it run at full speed, there will be an error much sooner. Of course, this could just still be a size issue (slower speed takes longer to send the same amount of data as faster speed).

You may also be seeing it on .exe/zip/.rar files more, because it's easier to notice on those. zip and rar have additional checksums within them so their correctness can be verified. I'm not sure about .exes, but a corrupted program will crash on you. For things like iptv and video and audio however, a bit or byte different may just manifest itself as a blip in one frame on the screen, gone before you realise it. Similarly, some streaming content run over UDP and not TCP, and have their own ways of detecting errors and recovering.

Regular surfing may fall under the "not so large size" category, or maybe there is something corrupt that we just don't notice.

I was actually thinking to make a web app, that sends "ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXZ" continuously on a TCP stream, and a java applet that connects to it and verifies the letters are in sequence, repeating the sequence for say 200MB or so. When it finds something out of sequence, display the exact data that was corrupt, together with the surrounding characters. Would be very easy for everyone to verify, and also prove and demonstrate the data corruption, when you have something like "MNO%RST" on your screen.

On another note, if you are on windows and want to do a test bypassing the DIR-615 or any other equipment, you can plug your PC's ethernet directly into the BTU, run rizvanrp VLAN Forwarder, and setup Windows to connect to UniFi via PPPoE. I haven't tried this (no decent windows pc) to see if the performance hit factors out the data corruption though. Also remember if you do this, your windows pc is directly on the internet, so have a decent firewall running.

1. Is there anyway that i can use back the same number? it will be a big hassle for us to use a new number bcos many of our old friends, business partners, relatives are still calling our existing number

2. so it means that my next payment of RM149 would be on the 3rd month?
*
1. Keep the paying the old line rental and you can keep the number. You could also put an answering machine there with a message that tells callers your new number for the next 6 months.

http://www.unifi.my/unifi/index.php?option...d=51&Itemid=203

Q:When will I get my first bill after I subscribe to the UniFi package?
A:The first bill can be expected around 1 month after service is activated. The first bill will also include a one month advance payment.

So the first day you subscribe, you just sign the paper work.
At the start of the second month, you get a bill for 2xRM149, being the first month's payment, and also 2nd month in advance.
At the start of the third month, you get a bill for RM149 being advance payment for that third month.

Bills will also include any phone charges made under your account (note I'm carefully saying "made under your account" and not "from your phone" ... if someone's stolen your SIP ID ... and use that, it's billed to your account too ... *grin*)

oh lucky you guys!
but once tm exercises the cap limit, im sure you guys need to watch the bandwidth.
any ideas which software is good? and when will tm start using the cap limit?
*
A PC software tracking traffic may not be useful if you have more than one PC or other devices such as PDAs and phones also sharing the same internet connection.

I modified my router (A buffalo WHR-HP-G300N) with DD-WRT firmware and it has a really nice traffic graph:

http://www.simplehelp.net/2008/09/11/how-t...your-bandwidth/

I'm not sure if it can adjust itself for your billing date, but fortunately I got my unifi on the 1st ... 8-)

If I'm not into downloading any "content" that month my usage is usually around 30GB.

Yeah, I'm in BRP Sungai Buloh, and my "acid test" of corrupted downloads went perfectly fine.

Wonder if this will last or just because there are fewer users online?
Daily test for the next week!

Just got my unifi today... one question, is it possible to use the 2nd phone port on the huawei gpon unit?
*
I believe the 2nd phone port is for a second line from TM (a new number).

See this URL: http://www.unifi.my/unifi/index.php?option...d=62&Itemid=209

Under "Additional Voice Line". It's an additional RM25 per month + call charges.

However, if you just want to connect additional equipment to your existing line, the regular telephone splitter box will work just fine. Put it between the GPON unit and the supplied DECT phone, and connect your other equipment (wired phone, fax, etc) to the splitter. If you just want more phones around the house, it's probably easier to get more DECT phones.

Organizing Your UNIFI equipments

I think back a few version of this same topic, someone posted a picture of him organizing their Unifi equipment with Lego, which is very creative. I'm still trying to build a proper rack for my living room to shelf all these unifi appliances and hide the cables neatly. Perhaps if anyone have an idea, better with picture, can share their experience in getting this sorted out?
In case I have put this post in a wrong topic kindly re-reference for me, thanks.
Now here is my mess, going to spend a weekend to build a rack or housing for all these. Will keep update.

If the rear facing side of your tv cabinet is wood, get some small wood screws and mount most of the equipment there. I think the units all have wall-mount slots at the back. Then get one of those "pagar" type of conduits, fix that to the back of the tv rack, and tuck all the cables into it. That way everything is out of sight, yet if you push forward your tv cabinet a bit, you have access to them all.

The only thing that needs to be visible is the IPTV set top box, due to the remote control. Put that inside your tv rack itself (ideally, an open shelf).

Any Biz 20 users here ?

Can you park any domain name into your static ip given by tm.nut ?
*
My office is on a BIZ20 + 5 Fixed IPs. It's just like any other fixed IP package, you can point as many DNS domains to your IP as you like. DNS is pretty much independent of your ISP.

I believe they also have 1 new domain registration under the package as well, we didn't need it (already have our domains) but seems they can't proceed without it, and insisted we pick a name. I was tempted to ask them to register "UnifiSucks.com", but then thought the better of it. 8-)

No, mine is Compro TV capture card. Mine doesn't have HDMI port but has the S-video connected to STB.
Honestly, I'm not sure the Avermedia would work flawlessly with the STB. If you could get it working with HDMI and provided the price is right, I might even consider getting one of those.
*
I think it depends of the set top box's HDMI output has HDCP enabled or not. If yes, I believe no legal capture board will record the signal.

I'm keen to know if there's progress on this too. I might upgrade to it if HD recording works. I'm currently capturing via S-Video on a Hauppauge PVR USB.

If you already have the Avermedia, try using the Component inputs ... should be close to HD quality on that.

If anyone is interested in using LIRC (http://www.lirc.org/) to control your UniFi set top box (Huawei EC2108E) from your PC, I have captured the infrared codes for the remote in LIRC format. The configuration is below.

You can build a serial infrared transmitter from the instructions here: http://www.lirc.org/transmitters.html. With this, you can then write a script in Linux to automate things like changing channels automatically. My purpose for doing this is to integrate the UniFi set top box into a MythtTV (http://www.mythtv.org) environment.

I'm not sure about the HDCP thing, but what I can tell you is that if I don't update my capture software and the driver itself, I wouldn't get the signal and when I do, my volume control immediately disabled. It automatically disable my audio and I couldn't slide my volume control at all.

Since you have the Hauppauge, can you get the audio working?
*
Yeah, my video (via set top box's s-video) and audio (via RCA red and white cable) is connected to my capture box, and both audio and video works. It works simultaneously with the HDMI output to the TV, so i can watch on the TV and stream/capture via the connected PC.

I'm running on Linux though, so not dependent on the manufacturer's windows drivers or anything. *grin*

*
Yeah that was the case, even third-party server would not help and seems to affect a lot of ppl in Kota damansara, sungai buloh, damansara damai, kepong areas BUT this issue has gone away a day or two after raya.

Are you actually facing this problem MX510 right now, or just heard story? Which area are you at, and care to share any specific URL of file you are downloading that is giving you problem?

I need some feedback on DECT pairing with the Panasonic phone supplied with UniFi.

I previously am using 5-year old DECT ClassicPhones. When I paired them with the UniFi Panasonic phone, they can dial out with no problem, but when an incoming call comes, only the panasonic will ring, the ClassicPhones are silent.

I'm guessing that it's some compatibility issue, but before I go out and buy another Panasonic DECT phone to pair with the UniFi one, can anyone confirm that they've successfully done this? Both phones will ring when an incoming call comes?

Anyone can recommend a basic Panasonic DECT model that pairs well with the one supplied?

Hi,

Can I use TV Card(computer) with unifi IPTV?
I'm planning to use S-Video to RCA cable.

S-Video connect to the set top box and RCA connect to the TV card.

Will it work?

Thanks
this question not yet answer

me oso wanted to know, can or not ?? tongue.gif

Plugging in an svideo cable from the svideo output of the set top box, into the s-video input of my capture card works.

For audio I use the white and red RCA cables. If you don't have an S-Video input, I believe you can use the yellow rca on the set top box for (composite) video too?

I've not tried with a "S-Video to RCA" cable. But if you are planning to buy a capture card, why not buy one with s-video input or better still component input. If you already have a capture card with only composite video input, and for some reason cannot use the yellow rca composite video cable, do try the svideo-to-rca cable and let us know.

Grrr ... blast of lightning and suddenly no internet ... hmm ... fiber shouldn't be affected right? Went downstairs, and discovered my mikrotik has no lights! Checked power supply and there is power, so the Mikrotik itself is dead. cry.gif
Phone line on my fiber box is also dead. Luckily the ethernet side is ok. But still need to involve TM.

So guys ... don't forget ... just because you have fiber coming from outside, doesn't mean you are safe. Make sure you have the appropriate surge protectors on your power supply, long ethernet runs, and internal phone wiring if you bridged it. My cal-labs died a few months back, so I bypassed it temporarily ... cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif

Back to my D-Link in bridged mode. Anyone know if telekom tech will make noise if they see my dlink in bridged mode with the orange light flashing? I just need them to deal with the phone line on the fiber box.

And now ... the hunt for another mikrotik starts again ... vmad.gif

is ur script suited to a 3 nic server?? i am not a real linux pro..sekadar cukup makan only.. nod.gif
*
One NIC is for the WAN interface that plugs straight into your fiber box.
Another NIC is for your IPTV connection (if you are on UniFi VIP).

My script deals with the above two, doing the VLAN tagging and bridging, and PPPoE. With this your Linux PC can get onto the internet, and you can watch IPTV.

You can have another NIC for your internal LAN, which you run NAT on.
You can have another NIC for your DMZ (if you have unifibiz with 5 IP), which you can run packet filtering on.

For the above two, you can combine my script with Arno's IPTables (http://rocky.eld.leidenuniv.nl/joomla/#).

In fact, I'd recommend running Arno's IPTables even if you just had the Linux PC alone connected, so that there is some firewall between the Internet and your Linux PC.

Edit:
* The script at the old V6 thread didn't do IPTV.
* Please use the latest copy of the script from here: http://home.abubakar.net/gitpub/?p=unifi_pppoe. This new one handles IPTV as well, thanks to Stanley Seow and Rizvarp for their input.

As kons said, just connect to the LAN port or WiFi, it's the same as any other network. What problems are you facing exactly?

If you want to connect your linux pc directly to the fiber box (ie using linux as a single PC/firewall/router/vlan tagging), look here:
