Whatever happens to the "Poodle Standard"!

Although in this picture, this particular breed is so cute. Adorably small in size and talk about that beautiful rounded eyes!

However, in my opinion, I think that that we have to come up with another breed name for this as this is not really look like poodle anymore.

Toy poodle or poodle for that matter quote: (http://www.akc.org/breeds/poodle/index.cfm)

" Eyes-- very dark, oval in shape and set far enough apart and positioned to create an alert intelligent expression. [U]Major fault: eyes round, protruding, large or very light".

"Muzzle-- long, straight and fine, with slight chiseling under the eyes. Strong without lippiness. The chin definite enough to preclude snipiness. Major fault: lack of chin. Teeth-- white, strong and with a scissors bite. Major fault: undershot, overshot, wry mouth".

I wonder how did they come up with this Short muzzle and big rounded eyes look! Mix breeding perhaps?

What you guys think?

Hi All, I just adopted a male poodle from 1 of the forumer here.
But one of his hind leg is limping(seems to be fractured, not sure how to descript it). Seems to be quite serious, was told that it is due to injury.
Planning to bring him to vet to see if it can be cured.
Any recommendation guys?

Just to share that my toy poodle has been eating Go! Natural dry dog food and MyBeau (2 pumps daily) for the past 7 months. She just turned 1 year old yesterday, she has grown to a 12 inch tall dog which has exceeded the standard toy poodle size. I don't know if we overfed her or she has been getting very good nutrients.

She is very fit, healthy with super soft fur but she is big when comparing with other toy poodles. I have been feeding her 0.8 cup of Go! Natural, which is 65% of the recommended portion 1.25 cup for puppy. I don't know if she should have been fed less or it was all about her gene.

@divas: not yet. She just confirmed a booking. She will only take back at 8weeks. What she meant was the pup fell asleep on her lap when she visited the breeder to choose which pup. smile.gif

I visited the pup just now at breeder's place. This pup is real cute, very good boy and got bullied by sibblings... Lol...

thanks for the info.... at least now we know why the eyes became like that! Well, I guess they have to operate each and every puppy that is born before they can be sold in the market... its their choice.

As long as the pups are healthy, then its acceptable.

Hmmm..dun think MyBeau has anything to do with this size issue. How heavy is ur girl? U sure u measured her height correctly? I never followed the feeding guidelines. I use other ways as my indicator. I also feed my boy Go!Duck and i can know when he has put on some weight by just holding his chest (no weighing scale at home). This is how i usually monitor my poodles' weight - i cant feel their ribs means they shud not be underfed.

Good quality kibbles like Go! need not be fed in large amounts. If u know by feeding 65% of the recommended portion is sufficient for ur gal, then it;s fine. COz diff poodles have diff structures/genes/metabolism rate. Some mini poodles r big but skinny (does not mean u hv overfed) or teacups that r fat.

12inches tall is not a toy size anymore...although some petshops can tell u toy sizes can go up to 13inches. doh.gif

She was last measured 3.6kg and I just measured her height again (tallest point of shoulder), she is 11.5 inches tall.

How much do you feed your toy poodle per day? After seeing other owner's toy poodles then only I realized my toy poodle is bigger and theirs look so tiny and skinny. Is it true that people purposely underfed small breeds so that they don't grow big?

3.6kg @ 11.5inches is not fat...i assume u can still feel her ribs? Pros, correct me if i'm wrong. I dun think we measure from the highest point but from shoulder blade? Right?

I dun know exactly how much i feed my kids..i just grab with my hand but i feed according to age & size (whether is in healthy weight or underweight or still a puppy).
