the reason behind the throttle speed of 128kbps

could it be tat once you exceed the 5GB, you line will  be "ported" to roam on DiGi network as DiGi and UM hav signed an agreement to utilise each other's bandwidth recently........as 128kbps is DiGi's nationwide Edge speed
*
For Digi Edge, I can get about 200kbps with my old old 2.5G sim (show on Samsung SGH-250) with max RM5 daily.

I think is celcom, only GPRS because you can change APN to celcom3g and Dial Number to *99***1# ,umobile sim also can be connect.

Recently just notice the Display name change from "Umobile" to "Umobile3G"

Umm, if you are using such a modem. Here is what i think you can do:

Use your Mobile phone to subscribe to the packages, for example U68. But if you are not sure this will work, try to subscribe to a day 500mb 1 package.

After getting the confirmation, you put your sim card into the modem and plug it into your laptop.

If everything is ok, you should be able to use the U mobile internet.

Happy Surfing.

Don't think so. Roaming with DiGi is off leh. Also broadband more likely to run on its own network.

umobile does not roam in digi network.

as i posted earlier: umobile broadband exclusively utilises its 3G infrastructure.

if a user is outside of um's 3g coverage, no data services is available.

the reason why umobile sign domestic roaming agreement with celcom is to allow nationwide coverage/service for voice/sms

meaning user from e.g. Kelantan, Terengganu, Sabah, Sarawak, etc. can enjoy umobile's voice plans (prepaid and postpaid).

I can confirm with you that UM subs cannot use data other than in UM 3G coverage.

In regards to Voice and SMS, doesnt it make sense that if you`re hook up to Celcom 2G network it will be as if you`re Celcom sub?

In short, UM sub get the coverage area as wide as Celcom 2G coverage.

hookup to celcom 2g network ONLY for coverage.

charging is purely from umobile. meaning: if umobile charge 1 sen per minute (example only la), you can enjoy this rate whole nationwide.

this agreement, i think, is to allow umobile users to have voice/sms connectivity even when outside of umobile 3g network.

tried that before. cannot dial sweat.gif

oh btw, throttling/speed profile is set by the provider, not from the network speed.

remember last time Digi shouted 14.4mbps network? but all their plans are lower than that and they cap at 128kbps?

network capability IS NO realistic achievable speed. it is all up to the service provider to assign.

Added on November 25, 2010, 10:59 ama little off topic: YES wimax service smile.gif

it has voice (voip) and broadband.

what if the network is down? can you make voice call then? biggrin.gif

Off topic: for Yes, it no coverage you can't make any call then. Then again, you need a Yes phone or laptop with the Yes software to make call.

With U Mobile you can make call with a normal 2g phone (prepaid). U mobile plus Celcom coverage. 1 rate. 9 sen per 30 seconds.

@digilife , YES is no good (in term of affordable) for those used with Maxis Unlimited, Streamyx, Unifi, UB68, and even Digi Broadband (unlimited quota).

Service level wise, I don't know la, did not subscribe, but they are giving 10GB free now, the USB modem, is quite small like 3G modem.

What.... i also stay at Bukit Beruntung, Section 7.... Celcom networks suck here, but maxis ok...., i have to climb up stare to find 3G signal....

Here i got...

Celcom 2G/3G-poor recipient
Maxis 2G/3G-average
DiGi 2G (GPRS only) or almost out of coverage
Umobile out of coverage for sure....

Wimax out of coverage.... sad.gif

i think this is because of near the hillside cause radio interference....sad.gif
