I really like Figueroa, hard working left back that, but why do i get this feeling that Konchesky might be  signing for Liverpool instead.

Do we really urgently need to sign Remy? Jovanovich can do a decent job as a striker isnt it? and i read somewhere Robert Vittek signed for about 1M for a Turkish Club...1M!! ill be damned!

Welcome to Liverpool Joe Cole..

Hoping that you're not another Kewell

READ MORE NEWS ON: Liverpool, Stoke City, Sunderland, Wigan

Liverpool and Stoke City are battling for Wigan Athletic fullback Maynor Figueroa.

The Honduras international was a top target for Steve Bruce last season but relations with Sunderland grew strained when their former boss pressed for Figueroa's signature despite being issued with a 'hands-off' warning.

Reds boss Roy Hodgson is an admirer of the defender but there is competition from another club, believed to be Stoke.

Agent Jean-Marc Goire insists there are two clubs interested in his client and there is a "90 percent chance" that the player will be leaving the DW Stadium before the transfer window closes.

while i am still unconvinced with RH managing liverpool, i'm glad that he secured cole's service under the noses of other BPL teams who can offer more money on the table.

if news are true, then we are probably close to remy's transfer as well, considering that the sales of benayoun and insua has gathered 10mil, which leaves another 2.5mil to be forked out from our transfer kitty.

although the LB position is currently vacant, i'm optimistic that a new player will come in very soon to fill the position because the player will know that he will go straight into the first team when they sign on. the only thing that matters now is whether RH is getting a quality player to fill up that slot.

on another note, i may have mistaken, but i'm secretly convinced that masch will stay for another season at least. he may be pegging for a transfer to inter milan, but italian football rulings has included a new law stating that clubs can only sign one non-EU player per season (after the poor world cup performances), and inter has got the quota filled. if the reports are correct, then masch will either stay with us for another season, or leave to another club, but it will unlikely be inter.

In this situation, better sell.

No point to keep a player that is destiny and looking forward to another club.

Hmm I can't verify if I'm right, but aren't we the only ones willing to offer to pay him $90,000 pounds a week? If he was willing to forgoe Champions League football, it could be for anyone of 3 reasons :-

1) Regular football
2) He is a die hard Liverpool fan
3) Money

I'm inclined to think it's no. 3) and a bit of no. 1) I guess.

Is Joe Cole any good? Well imho he is kinda like an English Benny... isn't the most consistent player at the best of times, but capable of brilliant flashes of magic.

Being English is a plus, but for me the best thing about his sigining is that it gives people like Gerrard and Aquilani some competition in the attacking midfield roles.

The timing is good too, might well give Torres, Gerrard and Mascherano something to think about against leaving... although like Duke I highly doubt that he is our messiah and in all likelihood he probably signed for the money.

Added on July 20, 2010, 3:52 pmP.S. I am also thinking that winning the world cup despite having played a very insignificant part in it would have sated Torres' desire for success so it is Gerrard (and obviously Mascherano) who are most inclined to leave.

Not too sure about Reina, i have a strong feeling that Barca might well be lining up something for him sometime down the road hmm.gif

i read somewhere (maybe RAWK) that we are the only team that offering him that much. and maybe a small percentage that he gonna play regular football.

lets hope he'll not spending most of his time injured. could be a terrific signing if he managed to do so.

out of all current imports in the team, i believe reina is the only player whose gonna stay here for a long long time. unless we are really really shit and barca come knocking

from what i know, spurs only offer joe cole around 60k per week. same goes to arsenal. so i guess money is the main option and play regularly is 2nd option that he chose liverpool

he's 28 this year. wages would be the priority for him be4 he reaches his peak. liverpool able to offer him 1st 11 position. this would be the 2nd reason i guess.

I'm also inclined to think J.Cole signed with money in mind and among all Liverpool offered the highest. 90K per week for 4 years is a good fetch for him, given the media impression that his performance and injuries aren't getting any better. If he stays fit, then it's all good.

Signing an England international player for free will definitely appease some fans. A few more good buys and RH can get more positive support from fans.

anyone have pics with joe cole wearing offcial jersey yet?
i need to confirm his number.. & whether is j.cole or just cole..
cole to me is just exactly like luis garcia & similer like messi (perhaps he's our messiah) very classy on the ball & can score frm many angles..kewell & keane when they signed for us was slightly over their peak so lets not jinx the number 7 peeps !
btw i do believe he's a great signing for liverpool with riera leaving as well..its an end of the era for Rafa's boys, except for skertl, torres, reina, aquilani, agger & johnson..masch might be staying for another season as barca alrdy has busquets & they're not looking to strengthen in that area..unless inter can sign him..

Monetary factor?I'm not so sure.

Cole had similar offers on the table from Arsenal and Tottenham before agreeing his £80,000-a-week deal at Anfield.

Then again, no one know the exact detail of the offers made....

i'm reading some FB post that in the mist of joe cole announcement, a news in tandem was sneaked under the radar that future ticket prices for LFc games had gone up. of course this wont affect LFC fans outside UK, but the repercussion in LFc grounds may be different.

So much promises of starting a new ground but not even a spade was shoved, & the cost for to support LFC will hurt a little more to fans in UK.

joe cole is likely to be rivalled by offers in salary from others but i guess he wanted guarentee to start more often. (if he stays out of treatment room)

but i dont think he's as bad as sickly as our ex 'the name shall not be named again" no.7

agree. but considering masch has not stepped out and make an announcement that he wants to quit liverpool for another club, then i still take him as a liverpool player. there's still no news from his side after RH's statements, so i don't see why we shouldn't stick by him for a while before giving the stab.

you may refer to solstice's link for the paycheck issue, although to be honest i have no idea about the real wages in the contract. some reports mentioned 80k, but i'm sure there are add-ons on top of that. he could be money-motivated, but i don't see the problem if he can deliver what he is signed to do. chances are, cole will most definitely receive more playing time at liverpool compared to the other clubs who offered to sign, and considering that he is somewhat a quality signing i have no complains about this transfer.

Fair comment, it's the bottom line that counts but personally, I won't compromise on my ideals. Call me ancient but I still believe in the term, "Liverpool type" player, and mercenaries who value the dollar, or pound in this instance, above all else, don't fit the profile. A certain Mr. Kewell comes to mind. Well then again he hasn't exactly made his statement so he deserved to be given the benefit of the doubt but I don't think his decision to come was purely down to playing time. I'm sure he would have just as much with Spurs.
