Hmm I can't verify if I'm right, but aren't we the only ones willing to offer to pay him $90,000 pounds a week? If he was willing to forgoe Champions League football, it could be for anyone of 3 reasons :-

i'm reading some FB post that in the mist of joe cole announcement, a news in tandem was sneaked under the radar that future ticket prices for LFc games had gone up. of course this wont affect LFC fans outside UK, but the repercussion in LFc grounds may be different.

So much promises of starting a new ground but not even a spade was shoved, & the cost for to support LFC will hurt a little more to fans in UK.

joe cole is likely to be rivalled by offers in salary from others but i guess he wanted guarentee to start more often. (if he stays out of treatment room)

Houllier left Liverpool by mutual consent in 2004 and was swiftly replaced by Benitez, who took the club to European glory in his first season with a surprise victory over AC Milan in Istanbul.

Benitez followed up that success with the UEFA Super Cup in 2005 and the FA Cup and Community Shield in 2006, but he left the club this summer after a seventh-place finish last season.

Houllier has now claimed it was his work that paved the way for Benitez to succeed and suggested the new Inter Milan boss has made life much harder for his replacement, Roy Hodgson.

Speaking of the changes he brought about during his tenure, Houllier said in the Liverpool Echo: "One, the pattern of getting a foreign coach was already accepted. Two, he had a Champions League-winning team. Three, the team were already in the Champions League. Four, we had built new facilities. And five, it was a different training routine, different attitude and mentality.

"I claim that we - Phil Thompson, Sammy Lee and the staff - definitely turned it round. The chairman, when I left, said 'You put the club into the 21st Century."

He added: "Twelve out of 14 in Istanbul were players I had signed or developed. I left Liverpool with a team and in the Champions League, but when you finish seventh with Torres and Gerrard...

"When I came into the changing room in Istanbul some of the players said: 'Boss, it's your team'. After Rafa Benitez left this summer, one of the players sent me a message. He said, 'Boss, he hasn't beaten you'."

boy, im happy to see benitez gone for good, me always criticize the way he puts the team and how he's handle the young players...with limited money in the bag RH definitely looking at the young players at the academy n would give them chance to prove their worth,,to be honest i care less who's we going to sign but more eager to see whose gonna be surprise performer's for coming weeks,,

HODGSON: TORRES HAS BEEF WITH CLUB

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson admits he is running out of options in his bid to keep Fernando Torres at Anfield.

The new Reds boss, who briefly met with the Spain international for the first time last week, insists Torres' apparent reluctance to commit himself to another season with Liverpool pre-dates his time at the club.

"Unfortunately, I cannot do much more," Hodgson admitted in quotes reported by the News of the World. "His beef is with the club and not me."

He added: "Fernando's situation has nothing to do with me, he made that perfectly clear over the phone during the World Cup and when I met him face-to-face.

"He knows what I would like to do with the club. He knows how much I value him.

"But his issues are with what has gone on in the past rather than the future.

"If he has problems with the club for things in the past, it is difficult for me to dismiss that."

RB did a good job by hiring a youth coach from Barcelona last season, and King Kenny as our ambassador to scout for youth talent though....it may take a season or two for our youth to compare with the other big 4 team's youths. 

Neal: Carragher could manage Reds

Club legend Phil Neal believes defender Jamie Carragher has what it takes to become a future Liverpool manager.

59-year old Neal spent 11-years at Anfield, making 459 league appearances and winning eight league titles as well as four European Cups.

He also achieved success as a manager of Bolton, Coventry City, Cardiff City and Manchester City, and has urged new Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson to get current Reds hero Jamie Carragher to follow the same path.

"He should think about his coaching badges," Neal told The Sun.

"I'd like Jamie to be part of the management under Roy Hodgson. He's Liverpool through and through."

Carragher, 32, has spent his entire career at Liverpool, making 435 appearances and playing a crucial role in the club's 2005 Champions League win.

Technically, I do not know what is going on.RH sold Insua, Riera and now trying to ship out Maxi without even getting a replacement beforehand.

it will be a tough season ahead if those guys dindt up their game..if gerrard or toress is injured then it will be the same old thing again..

Liverpool's Europa League opponents FK Rabotnicki could face action if UEFA authorities are alerted to an incident of racist crowd behaviour.

Pictures have emerged from Liverpool's 2-0 over the Macedonian side in Skopje of supporters directing monkey taunts towards the English side's players.

Liverpool started the third qualifying round tie at the Philip II Stadium with two black players in their side in double goalscorer David Ngog and 19-year-old winger David Amoo.

Macedonian football has had a problem with racist behaviour in the past.

In September 2003, England players Emile Heskey, Sol Campbell and Ashley Cole were all the subject of abuse in an international against Macedonia at the same stadium.

An English flag was also burned and European governing body UEFA later fined the Football Federation of Macedonia £10,730.
