that's the thing, you see...
if developers can't see a monetary gain, then they'll never develop for Android / iOS / Windows 7 / whatever.

obviously, having major players like UbiSoft / EA / ngmoco / Popcap is definitely good... but iOS App Store is actually skewed to making it easier for the independent developers...

no one in the history of publishing / programming has ever made it easier for the indie scene to reach a wider market... before Apple smile.gif

I think everyone who has been taken aback will just silently wait for Iphone 4 instead now...

If pricing remain the same, Rm1590 for Iphone 4 is better bet than buying 3GS.

Digi is better if you need more bandwidth for less money involved.

I was quite shock when 1st see the new plan,thinking that 3GS 16GB digi238-160 cost only rm190..but the upfront payment of 2k+ really not attractive.....maxis offers lower price for the phone eventho they r less worth for money in terms of package.....

OMG! That's a lot of money saved right there... A lot cheaper phone + cheaper monthly rates. Just on monthly rates alone, the savings is RM1152 for the digi 138 plan.

Dillemma balls... iPhone 4 or heavily discounted iPhone 3GS?

I must admit, even it took me three days to fully figure out the iPhone plan when it was first launch. Eventually, it does makes sense that most telco out there doesn't make any money selling phones. Their main income is in the plan. So try to get it straight that there is no such thing as free stuff or unbelievable discounts.
I got myself the HTC Legend plan, and even that took me another three days to figure out the plan. And when I thought I got it right, there was some confusion at the digi center about how much I should pay for the Legend package. I'm not too frustrated about it though, because I already know myself that the only way digi/maxis is ever going to get back their money from the discounts is through contracts and advanced payment. For HTC legend, I had to pay in advance RM500 for the plan, including RM68 for the first month, plus RM999 for the phone itself.
So in a way, digi got off RM1567 from me when I signed the dotted line. Same story goes for iPhone plan. Digi is actually using the money customers are paying in advance for the lines to cover the cost of the phone. Only when after a few month later, digi will eventually earn profit from its plan.

the reason i take maxis plan is thier 3G coverage and speed is faster and wider. Just need to make sure u don't over use. Maxis do offer 24 month 0% interest free for the iPhone. So upfront not that much lor

@blackchides, @cynical66
the price is the same la, they just moved the numbers around.
1+2+3 = 6, but if I asked you to pay the 6 over 6 months... total is still 6, but you thought 1+2+(1*6) cheaper smile.gif

In reply to your doubt about in the beginning Digi was selling the iphone at RM1090, please refer to a snapshot of their plan.

QUOTE(Darren @ Jul 7 2010, 03:21 PM)
Im pretty sure a lot of people are angry with how Digi does their advertising this time around. Its for sure not transparent. I almost buy into their trap only to stop when being told having to pay RM2k+ for 16GB 3GS when they clearly stated much less.

Here is the detailed of how we got "cheated" by Digi numbers.

Apparently, Digi is offering no discount at all for their IDigi plan.

This is what they did. According to their IDigi plan, the plan they plan to tie you up is still the normal IDigi 88, 138 and 238. Under these 3 plans, you will be eligible to buy the phone for the amount they advertised. But HOLD ON THERE. Thats not going to be the price you paid. What they did to recoup the cost of the phone is fantastic. For example, if you signed up for IDigi 138, they will collect RM48 x 24months in advance, coupled with RM890 for 16GB GS. That works out to be RM2,042 as you will be surprised to hear when they explained it to you. So yeah, Digi is misleading bunchs of us into believing they are actually making the phone cheaper with cheaper IDigi plan but thats not the reality. The price slashing on the IDigi plan is not a DISCOUNT but rather a chunk of it is being transfer to Digi in advance for them to recoup the phone cost. So after minus RM48 from your IDigi 138, you only pay RM90 for the rest of the 24months long contract. BRILLIANT!!??? DAMN  mad.gif

For once, I really feel DIGI SUCKS!!!

Sure is RM1090?
I thought its RM1590?? which Maxis better by offering a further RM200 discount.

I've to be honest, I don't really get what you mean. My understanding is this:

Let's assume that after iPhone 4 is introduced, the iPhone 3GS will follow the pricing of the current iPhone 3G; which is a fair assumption since most countries are doing the same.

That means the new 3GS price after the launch of 4 will be approximately RM 1200 (price of 3G before this new discount period) with the DIGI 88 plan. And that is only for the 8GB if we were to follow the US's phone lineup.

Right now, you can get the 16GB for only RM890 and a much better rate plan (DIGI 138) at only RM90/month. So if you're planning to get the 3GS and dont care much for the iPhone 4, isn't now a great time to do so?

Of course this is my understanding; there may have been something I've missed out and if so, I stand corrected.

Edit to add: Okay, I just checked out the DIGI iphone thread. All is clear now. Haha, awesome marketing by DIGI. Of course by marketing, I mean cheating..

Aiyah... I think if you put it straight like Smart Plan, then understood lor. Digi go and cut the monthly fee but there is no fineprint or whatsoever. It is really hard to be just a little bit transparent? The reason why I like Digi is they are straight forward with their policy and this is somewhat misleading ads. If this is USA, I bet Digi is getting bombarded with hate mail and probably gonna honour some of the deal before forcing to bring down their ads in shame.

Depends on location. You have to give Digi some time to improve on their services. I remembered Maxis was like shit in Sg Buloh 2 years ago and today, it was awesome. Digi is not there yet but Im getting pretty good speed in some area. My house for example can download 120-130kB/s from Hotfile. Not bad at all...

wut prob are u refering to? is it the antenna prob? my friend already got his i4 n test to hold the phone in the "forbidden way" if u know wut i mean tongue.gif and there is no prob at all smile.gif

in terms of hardware, the i4 definitely tops i3GS, for example the RAM where i3GS = 256MB while i4 = 512MB and also i4 uses the exact same chip as ipad smile.gif

So basically they lowered the price of iDiGi 88 + iPhone 16GB 3GS by RM200 only. sweat.gif

Previously :
RM1590 + RM88 x 24 = RM3702

Now :
RM2062 + RM60 x 24 = RM3502 ..

i just took a look on the new digi plan and in my case i just lost RM493

here's how i calculate, i took 3GS 32 GB iDigi138 plan and didnt take up the EPP plan but paid all with credit card

old plan:
iPhone + 6 month plan : 2,459
6 month plan value: 138 x 6 =828
net paid for phone = 2,459 - 828 = 1,631
remaining value of contract = 138 * 18 = 2,484
total = 1,631 + 2,484 = 4,115

new revised plan:
iPhone + 6 month plan : 2,542
6 month plan value: 90 x 6 =540
net paid for phone = 2,542 - 540 = 2,002
remaining value of contract = 90 * 18 = 1,620
total = 2,002 + 1,620 = 3,622

difference between old and new plan = 4,115 - 3,622 = 493 vmad.gif

Added on July 7, 2010, 11:45 pmok, if i calculate it in a different way, i lost RM781!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

old plan:
iPhone + 6 month plan : 2,459
remaining value of contract = 138 * 18 = 2,484
total = 2,459 + 2,484 = 4,943

new revised plan:
iPhone + 6 month plan : 2,542
remaining value of contract = 90 * 18 = 1,620
total = 2,542 + 1,620 = 4,162

difference between old and new plan = 4,943 - 4,162 = 781!!!!!!!!!!!

demmit! now i want digi to revise my monthly bill to RM90!!!! is this possible?
