which 1 recommended for heavy usage or performance bcos i planned to plug it to my media player...

sense due to heat concerned, DS have the exhaust fan may good for HDD
but as checked around seem that DS have the weird Start Up noise, worrying the mechanical damaging my movies... sweat.gif

I wouldn't call it 'heavy usage' or 'performance' if you intend to use it primarily with your media player. tongue.gif

Between those 2 models I would pick the Buffalo because it looks nicer. Performance wise, if any, is negligible, especially if you use USB 2. Warranty wise, both offer 3 years, I think?

I would recommend any other brands except for Seagate because of the firmware fiasco with their internal 3"5 drives. Don't care if their drives are now okay or whatever, had a really bad experience with them and that's it. sweat.gif

That's why, as a person not bitten by the Seagate firmware fiasco, I'm going to say to ignore that specific advice and buy what you think is the best for you. Seagate currently has no firmware problem.

One idea to consider is to later replace the USB 2.0 casing with a USB 3.0 casing. It will cost you and likely also your warranty, but that will unlock your hard drive's performance.

But media storage drives really don't require much performance at all as even the slow USB 2.0 data transfer is more than sufficient for Full HD playback. On the other hand, those with fast access times might be more pleasant if you have hundreds or thousands of files in a single folder. It will be most noticeable with SSDs, except that SSDs are luxury items for mere storage and have crappy capacities.

Not yet has a Seagate external hard disk that failed. Had to agree that WD 2.5" external is cute. Also WD AV is the only certified for Byond PVR. I still choose Seagate FreeAgent Go extra 2 years is handy.

It's at Viewnet, RM 194 only.
Samsung is pushing their HDD prices as low as possible with Quality and Performance.
This causes the other brands got no choice but to lower their prices too. thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

Not sure. Why don't you pay a visit?
I know that the Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB HDD is selling about RM 200(should be lesser) as standard in LYP currently.
If Viewnet doesn't have it, then, try C-Zone, Cycom, Prestige IT and so on?

My opinion is to get a HDD docking station and buy the internal HDD, This way you can capitalize on the low prices of these bare bones HDD and able to buy a few more additional HDDs.
