I'm currently using an iMac which has only firewire and USB ports. I intend to use an external HD for my photo library and I know that using a USB 2.0 HD is going to be too slow to access and process the photos. My internal HD is all full up. Hence the reason for me looking for a firewire HD. Since the firewire HD is no longer available, I would appreciate it if anyone has any solutions for me besides upgrading the internal HD. Thanks.  smile.gif

Bor, you can try
1. Vantec NST-D100UFS 2.5"/3.5" SATA to USB 2.0/eSATA/1394a Hard Drive Dock
or
2. get a NAS or
3. Acer Home server (last option)

i not sure what u suggesting.. if let say considering the transfer rates..

1394a = 400mbps
USB 2.0 = 480mbps
NAS = 100mbps depends on network..

but still for more convenient usb 2.0 is ok for portable..
alot of system have usb 2.0.. easy to move around..
i would be happy if usb3 is everywhere..

Those are theoretical speed?

Bro, you and I have a choice but vnair's iMac how then?

Hi guys, i looking for external HDD...

comparing between WD Element & Buffalo Drive Station...
which 1 recommended for heavy usage or performance bcos i planned to plug it to my media player...

sense due to heat concerned, DS have the exhaust fan may good for HDD
but as checked around seem that DS have the weird Start Up noise, worrying the mechanical damaging my movies... sweat.gif

or any brand recommended?
*
My opinion is to get a HDD docking station and buy the internal HDD, This way you can capitalize on the low prices of these bare bones HDD and able to buy a few more additional HDDs.

Is Samsung reliable brand for hard drive?
Dunno about other model but been using the F3 HD103SJ 1TB for 6 month already. It is cheaper, faster and runs cooler than WD Green.

No at the moment, 1.5TB and 2TB currently only available in EG (Eco Green) model, and it's running at 5,400rpm.
If you want speed and capacity of 2TB, take Western Digital Carviar Black 2TB.
*
Western Digital Carviar Black 2TB? hmm.gif This one running hot or not? Wat's the best price for this WD Black 2TB currently?

Is that F3 2TB samsung, the higher capacity version of HD103SJ or EcoGreen F3?
If it is the higher capacity version of HD103SJ, where or which shop is selling them?

Are you using this as your primary OS boot disk? If it's, it's recommend you switch to Blue or Black one as the Green really lag whenever you idle too long (it tend to slows down and park its head back to the seat), access time is high so you expect longer wait.
*

Thanks for the info.
No wonder I had to re-start my external WD HDD which is in a toaster.
