Benchmark wise, F4EG > F3EG.
But you won't see a difference at all in real world comparisons.

F4EG is also a slight bit hotter.
I'm comparing a 2TB F3EG and a 2TB F4EG here.

My 2TB F3EG - 30c
My 2TB F4EG - 32c

Yea 2 degree celcius diff.

If the OS partition changes from IDE to AHCI or vice versa, you will need to reinstall the OS.

2 degrees difference isn't that significant. It could be that the air flow for one of the HDDs is better than the other.

I suppose 2TB would be better. Already my 1TB drives are feeling quite cramped.

IIRC no need re installation..
before changing from bios delete the HDD Controller then the next change in the bios, win will search a driver for it..
try google around it's depends on OS though..

i just use IDE to avoid headache.. and no point using AHCI..

that's an old thread, 2008

on a modern OS like Windows 7 or Vista, use AHCI, even when using XP, I don't have any problem with AHCI.

Both F4EG and F3EG come with 32MB cache. It's a typo in the pricelist.

oo really? that's news for me...

so did you use AHCI after installing windows; or just prior to installing it?

coz there's a lot of my important documents and softwares installed in XP and 7; i'd go gaga if i lost them just by changing IDE to AHCI.. sweat.gif

I use AHCI when installing XP. You have to install the driver during XP installation (press F6) if you're using AHCI mode.

2tb F4EG (hd204ui) is now rm290 @ Czone, prices is dropping like crazy

according to samsung website, this model supports "4K with emulation"

how does one format/partition a HDD to use 4K sectors instead 512bytes? izzit done automatically during partitioning/formatting process in windows 7?

Sorry a newb question here, what is the advantage of using 4k sectors? And since it's in 'emulation' I assume it means not 'native'? And would that be good?

Also btw guys I have a e-Sata port on my casing but when I plug in a sata HDD, I don't see the 'safely remove' options as if it's not hot swappable. I turned on SATA AHCI mode already.
