QUOTE(kikikukiki @ Jul 14 2010, 04:36 PM) WTF is wrong with WD???? Had to RMA another RMAed 1TB WD Green 64mb drive for bad sector... I should go out and buy a lottery ticket... my 3rd back-to-back RMAed 1TB WD Green 64mb drive with bad sector Never had any issues with my Samsung/Buffalo and Hitachi drives for the last 2 years! Ironically, in the last 1 month since I bought the disk, the price has since plunged from $285 to $210-215... |

Ouch.
Perhaps there might be an outside influence like an underpowered or ageing PSU? They can damage your HDD when the HDD loses power at critical moments. |

WD has been demonstrate how their technology in the read/write head to prevent collision with the platter, but if it's power failure that caused the bad sectors, I wonder what WD will do about their "marketing"?

emmmm... i doubt it has anything to do with the PSU... the fact that they are "green" drives and consume 4-5w less vs the other drives in my rig makes me think maybe it has something to do with the fact that they are GREEN
and i have hdds from every other manufacturer including buffalo/samsung, hitachi, seagate and an aging 250gb WD running a-ok |

Maybe a faulty cable then?
I have two Caviar Greens myself, but the older WD10EADS models. No problems after I RMAed one of them for a possible PSU related failure. |

When idle WD Green seems to lower its spin to save power. It lags when you try to access data from the HDD.
I bought WD green 500GB and it bricks after a month with no burnt marks, smell etc. Luckily can swap 1-to-1 from shop. Too bad data already lost. |

It has nothing to do with green version or not.
It just could be a bad batch only. |

Good luck with your GREEN coz my GREEN is not so green after all (it's RED with three XXX now!) and I was going to use it as a backup drive to store all my precious photos... so I guess that is now out of the question.

Is that alright to leave the hdd running naked? cox i swap the harddisk between pc and media player often. So most of the time it is running naked.
