It depends on your needs actually, if you are really serious about flash photography and got extra bucks, go for F58AM, or maybe F42AM

I had the same experience too, and was very afraid somethin is wrong with my A550
However, the guys here assured me that it is all right. Yes, it is the sensor cleaning mechanism. I have no problem till now also no problem using my alpha.

if its not the SSS sound~ then it could be the sal1870 kitlens gone case~

The vibration is much more longer than usual

soket : Do your pictures come out ok? If they do then, it should not be the Steady shot problem.

Look through your viewfinder and look at the SSS indicator. Is it always full bars and flashing? If it is then it is a SSS failure and you need to send your cam in for servicing.

In the mean time, you can still take pics. Just turn the SSS to off.

If you find that your lens have difficulty focusing to and from infinity, then it may be a case of gear stripping of your lens. Solution, use another lens or use manual focus if you do not have another lens.

Then go buy another lens to replace the kitty lens.

I dont think it is the SteadyShot vibration... since bro soket's vibrate when turning ON and/or OFF. I believe it is the sensor anti-dust mechanism at work...

Why HSS is disabled on the F58AM when the head is set to bounce ?

Yes is the anti-dust mechanism, whenever ur A550 turns off, the camera itself will vibrate the sensor to let the dust come off (although I did not find any effectiveness on it)

isnt the SSS and anti-dust supposed to be the same???

Thats my favorite walkabout lens now among all my 16 lenses. Razor sharp at wide open with awesome bokeh!

It's one of the sharpest lens available in Canon. No need to fake the sharpness and bokeh in PS. It just comes out like that. By the way your aunt owned that much of gears huh?
