I am wondering whether this is a place where I need help or not, I guess I might give it a try.

Recently, I just quit my IT helpdesk job once the contract ended, and I'm currently looking job in Singapore and New Zealand. But I found out that looking a job in Singapore is very very tough cry.gif . Because most of them do not reply you back even you have waited quite a long time. ( well basically I need to either follow up by email or phone of course >< ). I'm planning to jump to software engineer side which involved in Methodology management and small piece of coding. But I do not have any working experience before. ( I do have experience during college life which I've done few project such as final year project or diploma year project. )

Is it true that Singapore company will only need experience worker instead of fresh worker who plans to start all over again? I'm willing to learn though. nod.gif

And one last thing. There are a lot of job outsourcing consulting company which wanted to hired people. But for my previous experience is that they will give you a nasty job and you have to work like a dog. ( Cause my previous job is consulting company given doh.gif ) Is it worth trying those consulting company? My fren worked in Singapore and the Salary is just $1600 which he can't even save any money at all. icon_question.gif

The boy only needs to do NS if he wants citizenship or to remain a PR after he turns 18. He can always give up the PR and return to Malaysia or apply for a EP/WP if he wants to stay.

From now until he's 18, he's a PR by virtue of being a dependent of a PR.

i definitely won't do that. You are making him fall behind others. waste 2 years in NS. unless your child is going to work in SG gov sector, else NS really a waste of time. If i have a son, i will force him to become a malaysian and only apply for PR after 20 years old.

i check from ICA

foreigners residing overseas who are interested to study, work and live in Singapore may apply for in-principle approval for permanent residence by submitting an application through SMC Management Consultants Pte Ltd in Singapore provided they satisfy certain guidelines.

IPA for PR... hmm.. any different from PR in SG?

For 2nd generation PR, the option of renoucing PR status does not give much leeway to subsequent PR re-application via own merits. The termination of earlier dependent PR can be viewed as ostentatious/ conscientious bid to escape from civic duty liable, considering the fact that you have had "enjoyed" the puny benefit that the state has given to PR.

It's a matter of keeping options open for your child, until they're old and mature enough to decide for themself.

what enjoy? as PR we pay more tax and get ZERO goodies. My kids will pay more school/medical fees than other SG student. It is SG people that are enjoying our tax money.

When my kid renoucing PR at 18, he will ask to pay a sum of money for the "punybenefit" he enjoyed. So we owe nothing to SG.

NS is not a bad things if you see it as character building. Some young boy are too "weak", always play computer and spend most time in his room. They lack of character(other than their online game characters) they can't go far given the 2 years time advantage compare to those who go NS. having said that, not all kids who went NS must be successful but they do have a better character.

The SMC you need to pay money, IIRC SGD5000 for processing, no guarantee will get.
IPA gives you 1 year to look for a job in SG, once you get a job you get PR.

From what I understand, the admission to Primary schools are allocated in favor of Citizen => PR => Foreigner. Only certain schools would accept a Foreigner under student pass. However this stands to be corrected as I do not have a kid and yet to have gone through this myself in today's context.

Hope you can share what's this "amount" and source, for my general knowledge purpose.

Oh well, the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world.
There's no substitute on proper family upbringing, let alone left to the state do what one has failed to.
At the age of 16-18, most of the habits would have already been formed/ solidified.
To induce a "life changing NS experience" which can be for better or worse, is not something one would tie your aspiring kid to for 2 years; but a last shot to "re-form" a recalcitrant brat.

Today walk pass a group of NSmen, and most of them look weak, I guess if there is any war, they are the burden of their military force.
