Ho, Ho, Ho, Merry Christmas everyone biggrin.gif

Finally received my Seagull 1963 Air Force Reissue, it was a impulse buy for me blush.gif

As the name suggests, the design is paying homage for the first Chinese chronograph produced in 60s for the People's Liberation Army Air Force.

QUOTE
In 1961 the Ministry for Light Industry received the order to develop a new 'aviator's watch' for the People's Liberation Army Air Force. This was designated Project 304. Around this time a seconds-only chronograph version of the ST-2A was prototyped, but it did not enter production. The Venus Watch Company, Switzerland, were wanting to offload the calibre 175 chronograph tooling to raise capital for development of their calibre 188. The USSR were not interested, but the Chinese were. The 175 was purchased for Project 304. By October 1965, the third test batch were completed and submitted to the Ministry and Air Force for approval, which was passed in December. By May the following year, 1400 chronograph watches had been delivered to pilots of the PLAAF.

The dial is measuring 38mm (including crown), dial reads "19 jewels, China, Tianjin Watch Factory"

Red star with raised gold index

Signed crown, this is the only Seagull logo on the entire watch

Special request sapphire caseback. Decorated ST-19 manual wind non-hacking chrono movement, based on Venus 175.
user posted image

A bit small on my wrist huh, should I keep it or sell it?
user posted image

What I like:
- Reasonable priced
- Retro military look with matching nato
- Cream dial, red star, raised gold index, red chrono second hand

What I dislike:-
- Smallish in today's standard
- Red paint on the caseback blocking the clear view of the movement
- Questionable QC, chrono hand doesn't reset to zero in one of the three watches we received. (in the time of writing, replacement watch is on the way from the Hk seller)

p/s: pardon for the poor pictures, not enought sunlight today blink.gif

Hello guys,

I'm getting interested with watch as age getting older, kidding...

With the budget below RM200,

Can I get any watch similar like this:

-Look simple
-Date display is not necessary
-Prefer Casio, Seiko, or other brand.

I know it's hard to get any branded watch with low budget. Just try some luck as someone could recommend me any. notworthy.gif

Here are some of the pics i took:

I requested them to remove to metal rivets on the straps, coz i prefer to have a plain strap. The original one should come with two metal rivets on each side.

i like the blue lume...but didnt expose to enough sunlight before i took this

sorry for the bad quality of the photos coz i used a 3.2mp handphone to take the photos.

This is the CW C8 MK-II. The watch looks great, the finishing is better than i expected!
Will consider to have another CW watch in the future. brows.gif

Strongly recommended for those who look for watch brand(not well known) that provide good finishing and quality.

Merry Christmas to everyone!!! biggrin.gif

wilekiyo: that is a nice timex!
And it's quartz too... easier to maintain and more accurate than mechanicals (like the seiko 5). But once you get yourself bitten by the real watch bug you'll want nothing but mechanicals.

Right now, go to the shops and test for yourself if you like these simple watches to be in the big 40+mm sizes or the more traditional sub 38mm sizes.

yijzen: Interesting. Greymarket seiko 5!

LOL ! Why above watch could be so cheap ?

Btw, the price of watch is unpredictable, RM200 is considered expensive for a watch as a college student. I really can't understand why my elder can spend up to 3k for a watch and still say it is cheap.

Your elders need to make themselves feel good.
---

Those watches in the ebay links are so cheap probably due to the very low grade materials used. I dont think they'll last but should survive your time in college.

Actually, you can find certain Casio edifice range of watches for about rm200. These will last and are actually pretty good time keepers. It's sales at the shops now isn't it?

These 2 Singapore sellers (might be the same people) sell the cheapest Seikos from what I have seen. Need to bid with other buyers, though. The cheaper Seiko 5s regularly end up less than RM200. Very high turnover. Got my 38mm military 5s for about RM190s each.

from the 1st page hierachcy, it seems that mechanical watches are more expensive (higher range) than quartz right?
