QUOTE(nando @ May 7 2010, 11:35 PM) You ask for it. First review in thread 2 Been lurking for b-uhr (pilot watch) for few months now. Some history of the original WWII pilot watch can be found here, http://www.calibremagazine.com/node/305 Finally decided on Laco due to its price and originality of the b-uhr. Chose B dial coz I find A dial is too common and plain for my liking. This is the original spec for B dial b-uhr. 55mm in size! Easily readable and wear outside the flight suit. ![]() Shipping was fast, 3 days from Germany to KL with FedEx. Special request for no logo dial to reflect the original spirit of b-uhr. 42mm in brushed steel, mineral cystal glass, inner hour markers with outter minute markers. Still getting used to the short hour hand. Non screw-in onion crown, would not put a mark on the back of your hand like diamond crown. ![]() Polished steel clear case back with mineral cystal. Mitoya 8215 workhorse. Second hand running smoothly, no stutter issue so far (touch wood ![]() Original pilot strap with rivets. Strap alone costing EUR49.00 ![]() Need some times to figure how to wear the strap ![]() Lume nicely with superluminova. ![]() And lastly, compulsory wrist shot. ![]() Very limited production due to parts availability (or financial difficulty), stocks usually sold off within days. Laco, one of the 5 original makers of b-uhr, Make in Germany, albeit Japanese movement, EUR166.39 ~RM730 with free FedEx shipping. Though not as historically correct spec as WUS LE, but I still think that this baby is a steal This post has been edited by ck77: May 8 2010, 12:22 AM |

QUOTE(-_- @ May 8 2010, 04:10 AM) wah i love the lume second effectt omg what kind of poison is this zzzzz 166 euro is not that bad >.> QUOTE(patryn33 @ May 8 2010, 08:23 AM) great reviews! do share your experience with online shopping, ppl are worried with taxes etc. care to elaborate more on that? didn't get stuck in customs? QUOTE(terencetoo @ May 8 2010, 09:46 AM) Btw ck77, u can also emphasizes on the warranty issue ...where to claim where to get it service...and how much would it cost when dealing with Online purchases.. patryn, as fas as watches are concern, that's tax free in Malaysia. Item reached Sepang at the morning, cleared by custom by noon, reached me at 4.30pm on the same day! im still hunting for another watch most prob...Oris, Ball or Tag average model terence, too bad any warranty claim need to send back to Germany. But good news is, Miyota is not a complicated movement and could be serice locally here. If worse come to worse, is not that expensive to change the entire movement! |

QUOTE(terencetoo @ May 8 2010, 03:10 PM) haha change the entire movement = get a brand new watch is that so. Almost all of the modern watches are lume by superluminova, expect some brands like Ball, Luminox, Lum-Tec etc.Tried on Orics BC4.....and is sooo freaking big and heavy... Now i started to like watches with superluminova |

QUOTE(nando @ May 8 2010, 06:03 PM) QUOTE(Chinoz @ May 8 2010, 06:39 PM) QUOTE(kelvinftg @ May 8 2010, 06:39 PM) Awesome shots of your B-uhr watch ck77. There was actually someone in Lowyat.net who was selling the exact same watch, I was very interested but was kinda annoyed at the seller's comments when I asked him if he had the 2824-2 version instead of the Miyota. Ended up not buying it and got myself a Glycine Combat instead. Thanks guys Anyways, I am very close to ordering a Stowa B-Uhr. For those who have yet to see it, here's the link Stowa Flieger Baumuster B Dial Stowa has been making A dial Fliegers all this while but their new range will include a B dial! Its size is 40mm, so it's smaller than your Laco. Price wise, it's also a lot higher compared to a Miyota Laco at 630 Euros. nando, yes the price is after VAT kelvinftg, yea the Stowa is a real beauty. Things that put me off are their unwillingness of VAT waiver and waiting times. '-_- as mentioned earlier, watches are duty free here. This post has been edited by ck77: May 8 2010, 10:58 PM |

QUOTE(patryn33 @ Jun 1 2010, 12:38 AM) true, but the dial is ugly.. and on top of that its a ETA 2824 standard version at GBP 340. will update the 1st post on value homage with iron core. Ya not so much history of Speedbird and TimeFactor, but they do have some favourable reviews on WUS.Stowa is a higher grade since they all come with blue screws. on top of that Stowa do make the effort to inspect the movement received from ETA and regulate to Stowa specs. Speedbird , no real histroy. brand is called Speedbird? certainly its cheap. is that swiss movement UK made? seem like Timefactors are the ones making it. seem like a mix bag, the 1st version is swiss, then its german by Ickler then now on the dial is Britain. http://forums2.watchuseek.com/showthread.php?t=345409 http://forums2.watchuseek.com/showthread.php?t=383762 How about Steinhart 44mm? Was contemplating before I decided to pull the trigger for Laco. http://www.steinhartwatches.de/index.php?i...0&Sel_ID=18#120 Added on June 1, 2010, 4:13 pm QUOTE(Leon|| @ Jun 1 2010, 01:55 PM) just found out got stock this morning, but can't place order. QUOTE(patryn33 @ Jun 1 2010, 06:53 PM) speedbird is value for $$. My Laco is keeping good time, but the rotor a bit noisy when swing. Apparently that's normal for Miyota as it's only swing in one direction, no help for display back too. Surprisingly, it attract more attention by people more than my Speedy. Steinhart offer a great looking homage. i rather give up the soft iron core for a display back. So how is the Laco performing? You know what patryn, I got a wild dream to change the Miyota to ETA if can find a reliable and trustworthy watchmaker here. This post has been edited by ck77: Jun 2 2010, 09:05 AM |

QUOTE(patryn33 @ Jun 2 2010, 09:42 AM) if u do change it to ETA 2824, I guess u not getting a stowa then. Just thinking getting the movement from offei and ask the watchmaker to install it. Well, not in hurry though. u plan to buy the movement yourself and get watchmaker to regulate and install it? or have the watchmaker do everything? QUOTE(lanatir @ Jun 2 2010, 10:21 AM) i basically sold the 013 at no loss. after using it for about a year (got it when it was first launched), the watch was still pristine. i don't baby my watches but i am also mindful of how my watches are treated when i use them (even with my swiss watches). finishing on the 6R15 movt is of course a bit lacking and much better on the 6R20 (i also had a seiko premier auto and sold it off). i've showed the premier to some swiss watchmakers before and they were very impressed with the quality of the USD500+ watch. Very nice Seiko. My target is SCVS003 http://forums.watchuseek.com/showthread.php?t=43166 |
