A big congratulations to you Bro Ura! I just got your message yesterday but was too tired to go onto internet after coming home late from work.
Your effort in detailed documentation of raising a T.sub from sling to adult is unsurpassed... really a great piece of pioneering work.

You said it takes less than 4 months for it to reach adulthood... really fast and not much longer than that for T.bha. The temperature really makes a difference in the development time compared to their home country.

Now it would be interesting to see how your male further matures in color and hardness then maybe can see how it faces off a XL T.bha? haha...
Also you'll need a couple of T.sub adult females to continue the gene line.

I think this is a first for me in terms of chit-chatting face-to-face with so many other fs kakis at a time, definately a first as an adult.

Actually i myself at that time never ever expect i will go into FS Rearing(which is actually so meaningful!).
It all started from a posting you made on the 5th March on the HongKee FS Group Hunting.. after reading it,
it sort of aroused my attention for T.Sub a little, which prompted me to post a T.Sub Male Fighting Video 打豹虎 i searched online only after that day.

Few days later, Bro Randy called me and said: "Wah Ura what FS is that, so Big..?" I told him it is the HK Thiania Species. It was the first time he saw it.. said Very Impressive Size.. then suggested to me: "Eh why not we try to buy from them".. then only it prompted me again to go online to fish for T.Sub Sellers.. i am also fortunate to have messaged the right person in youtube, which is our Bro Xarms. Then slowly we get to know each other better in the Facebook.. and on the 13th April, is the First Day in my life to see Real Live T.Sub Females.. i said to myself: "Wah Lau Eh FS can grow until this Big one ah".. but disappointed cos we wanted Males T.Sub at first.. then only i know from Bro Xarms in HK it is a Seasonal thing for T.Sub Males.. only in Sep onwards then they start to hunt for it.. they also have a FS Culture of rearing Slings from Feb-Aug(their waiting period; to let the T.Sub breed peacefully in the Wild), Kakis who rear Slings can be as young as 14years old.

Actually he does has a good intention in sending me females apart from the aforesaid reason.. he wanted me to try out rearing FS Slings also.. but i was not confident at first.. worried i might not do a good job.. but since at that period Huge T.Bha Males have already become so elusive in SG, so might as well try out.. the Hardest part of this T.Sub Project is still to find out the reasons why so many Slings couldnt make it halfway thru.. apart from the weather issue.. is really unusually fast to reach Adulthood as short as 3+mths time for a T.Sub, in HK it will take around 8-9mths.. plus the total numbers of moult can go up to 10times! 8-9times considered standard. My only Male BB06 only took 7moults. BB04(now named her as Hinata) also in her 8th Instar now, confirmed a female as epigyne is spotted underneath her abdomen. Might be also her Final Instar, still unsure. BB03 also in its 8th Instar but it got no swollen palps nor epigyne yet, meaning 8th Instar will not be its Final Instar, at least can moult 1time more.. even within the 3 Slings i have now, can already have different total numbers of moults.. it really implies something.. growing fast also means smaller size.. and will have shorter lifespans.. now i can see that even 1 moult lesser or more can affect the size difference so much. Needless to say 2-3times extra, which is why some T.Sub can go up to 16mm!

Lastly, Credits also goes to Bro Xarms, Bro Mindstorm, Bro Randy and not forgetting Bro Ricky who has passed me numerous pack of crickets every now and then.. to U Guys!

Since there is only 1 Male now.. i will try to mate him with T.Bha Females or even Blue Jewel Females to begin some Crossbreeding Program.. then i will try to get more Males from Bro Xarms this coming Sep/Oct, then we shall take a look between XL T.Sub VS XL T.Bha.. ..Most likely those he caught there will be Much Bigger than my 8mm Kazuo..

Will do a Full Update again here when they mature somemore.

P/s: Currently i also have 1 T.Bha Sling in its 4th Instar.. eating well always.. it seems T.Bha survives better here.. although the Mother of it was also caught from HK by Bro Randy, known as Cecilia Cheung..

Talking about fs clips that day, we also touch on number of views of fs related clip on youtube. Well, viewing back, here are the top 3 clips with most number of views as of today.

1. Spider fight - Ferocious fighting spider wrestling! (78,626 views)

This was posted by me with of course early post advantage because at that time really hardly any fs clips on youtube. Nothing really special about the fight or video quality compared to nowadays the super high quality fights that comes from our Singaporean friends but I guess the TITLE of the clip that does the trick for getting it that many views. People looking for "wrestling" clips most probably stumble upon it! haha! Truth to be told, when I look at the views, I am happy NOT because "I get the most views" but because I know many people in this world now know what is fighting spider from Singapore/Malaysia is about.

Some interesting facts I got from youtube insights about this clip

Still getting average 40 views per day. Mostly coming from USA! which probably is because a lot of ppl in US like to watch WWF....

Around mid June 2009, it got around 1.3 thousand! views on ONE day?! Further checking on Discovery(how viewers found the clip), I saw that all the views that day actually came from an embedded player from a website called www.nexopia.com. Seems it was posted on this popular website from Canada where a lot of young people hangout. I think everyday, the website features a different youtube clip which is interesting there, hence the sudden increase in views. I tried to see it from there, but I think it already got deleted.

2. Longest fighting spider fight !! (14Aug2008) (40,726 views)

Coming in second is of course this incredible clip by Viper. It is also the first clip if you type "fighting spider" in Youtube. Also because its link is at the top in the first page of the first part of fs forum for so long. Now it is there forever because the forum is locked even though a more deserving "longest fight" posted by our Singaporean kakis should be there. But nevertheless both fights are legends in their own right. Maybe viper can share youtube insight if anything interesting from there on why it gets so many views.

3. How to catch fighting spiders - The Kop method (14,883 views)

Incredibly this clip so popular?! So many old-timers want to relive how they catch fs with the Kop method? haha!
Well I checked youtube insights and while that maybe true, but apparently the high number of hits actually came from "YouTube related video" and mainly from these 2 particular clips from the Phillipines!(which made up about 40% of the discovery)

Most of the viewers are from Malaysia, 2nd is SG. Recorded about 1K+ viewer early of Jun2011.



Highest daily total is abt 330 viewer also in early of Jun 2011.
Recent Daily view is about in between than 7-40 viewers.

I've gone through some of the XL and Large size fs measured on grid and compile them during my free time
The FS size is estimation only... it might not be 100% accurate..
7.2, 7.3. 7.6, 7.8, 7.9 mm? ... if ask me how i can get this measurement? I think its mainly base on my preference and the measurement no. comes to my mind that time, so the measurement actually quite close to each other..

I might have missed up some XL/Large size fs with grid measurement done by FS kakis . Feel free to let me know, and i'll add into the list.

Hi Bro Viper & bro mindstorm,

Its truly a great & fruitful meetup indeed. 2 hours is like 5 mins to me. time passes so fast because the topics that we are on are so interesting . I think I'm more fortunate than both of you when u guys started because I have more people to interact with and get direct guidance from both of you. With our counterparts like bro Ricky and others from sg, keeping fs is more meaningful than ever. Im really having great fun these days.

While hunting alone here can sometimes be meaningless without motivation (I hope to catch a lot of fire from sg as part of my motivation), I do hope that you guys will join me more frequent if not hunting, yam cha session also will do . Im honoured to be a part of this forum and hopefully spread some of my enthusiasm/fire to thoose potential kakis in KL/Malaysia.

Yes, I know precisely where this place is as this was one of the early places I hunted at. I witness another Kaki caught 1 ML sized Fs but with one padi-puff missing as well as one big ML sized FS there about September 2010. Try as I did, like catching from the bottom to the top, including in the drain, all I caught was entry level SL size ones. Don go there anymore as too many joggers, cyclist, auntie etc kept asking what I was doing and not to cut the leaf, though I wasn't cutting leaves.

We are still waiting for Bro Ricky to tell us his KL Fs adventures....or is it I miss the last few post as I have to compete with children for computer.

We will be having a FS bout this Saturday at 1530 at Nirva##. Currently confirmed are Ricky, Sofian, Buaya and me and will be contacting others soon...

I missed out something really important in my previous post on my T.Sub FSes.. A BIG Credit actually have to go to our Bro Randy for introducing the LC Worms into our FS Forum.. i remembered clearly that time when i just started out.. i was really Worried what food shall i use to feed the 1+mm T.Sub Slings man.. if there are Kakis out there think that Pinhead Tiniest Crickets can actually be used.. then it is Really Wrong! .. i think it will be the other way round.. Cricket eat my T.Sub only! Bro Randy's LC worms which he got to know it from playing Birds in the past, is the Best Food to feed any Sling.. be it T.Bha or T.Sub.. cos they are tiny enuf.. easy to manage too, just pour the lotus seeds into the container full of LC beetles, few weeks later you will see many baby worms hatching out.. but very tiny, sometimes have to use magnifying glass.. width size around 0.3mm-0.5mm, is then the Ideal size for a 2nd Instar Sling.. only till 4th or 5th Instar then will they be able to prey on a Tiny Cricket.. in fact till now i am still using LC worms for them.. despite their Body Size now.. all in all it is a Great Food.. KUDOS to Bro Randy for this!! You made things happened for this too.. i realised my Kazuo is having unusually Shining Bluish Arms.. which i din see before in any T.Sub Male Photo on any website i came across.. and who knows it might be a Result of taking LC worms..!

A T.Sub Male definitely looks Fascinating with their TradeMark Long Arms and Exotic Colors.. even a T.Sub Male reared fully in captive like Kazuo can have this kind of Arms Length.. it will be Shocking to imagine how LONG the Top-Tier T.Sub Males's Arms Length really is, in the Wild, in HK.. ..then now compare Kazuo's Arms Length with my Biggest Ever Caught T.Bha Male Takeshi. Perhaps it is like comparing a "D Grade Student" from a "A Grade Class" with a "A Grade Student" from a "D Grade Class"..

Yes indeed now that i have experienced the whole process of raising a T.Sub from a 1mm Sling to a 8mm Adult.. the
Feeling is really Superb.. Nothing feels Greater than this.. sometimes when i took a look at their 2nd Instar album and compare with them now.. i can also get Emotional.. just feels very much like their Real Father.. It's really Greater than anything word can use to describe.. i would also Encourage more Passionate Kakis out there to try out.. for Everything there is always a First Try.. in HK it is even a Culture/Tradition to do it.. you will really understand more about FS throughout the whole process..

Since Kazuo is now already in his Final Instar.. i shall "reveal" something which i didnt share before.. as i said before i do take photos every single day for my T.Sub FSes since the Day they were hatched and thus have been feeding all of them every single day too, no "Off Days or MC" for this.. and this is the Main Folder of how BB06's Photo Album looks like.. in the 1st to 6th Folder, on average there are 130 photos taken in each.



In the HK FS FB, there are also HK FS Kakis who call me 爱猫狂人.
They are very Nice People actually..

Anyway I'm really hv so much fun hunting with bro jason,fr 6am to 7pm: wake up feed Fs-free breakfast-hunting Fs-free lunch again- continue hunting-free dinner somemore- it's spar time! See? I was treated as a VIP!!! Actually he was sick fr the 2nd day but still insist to hunt with me.. (so touching)...Thanks so much to bro jason for everythings & his girl friend, for sacrificed her own sweet time with jason during the long weekend.

Beside all this, my honored to met up two Datuk of Fs of our circle: bro mindstorm & bro viper88! Feel like kena lottery Sia..! Really learnt alot abt Fs fr them during chit-chatting in kopitiam,and the funny part including the story of "ah Seng's won but two legs bitten off by Ricky's Fs..." this makes us laugh till cry.. hope to see them again for next hunting trip in KL.

the genting fs are indeed good fighter after training (with smaller spars) but have not fight with other fighter yet. Im just being positive
while making my efford worth the tireness....slept for few days but still tired.

Wa.. so fast upload pics ady.. Tot u will have some rest 1st bfr posting.
Went out hunting from 9.30am till 4.30pm. Mostly nearby Setiawangsa area, roadside CB leaves, Gleaneagle and Tasik Perdana lake garden.
Didnt noticed u took my pic.. maybe too focus to search for fs.

The quality of FS at some of the area we hunt today quite poor. Maybe because i already combed all the good size FS previously
Only the smaller size male left and when repopulate..the new batch of male FS also shrink in size.

Some of the place cant even find any good size males... mostly spiderlings and females fs.
Most of the FS caught quite small to average size.. only some can fight abit, and we also caught about 3-4 chopsters.
We fought the FS and release the ice-cream and smaller ones. Only the chopster fight are excitings..
Theres one fight where the chopster won a smaller fs but also fainted/stunned... need several seconds and push to wake it up!
