Wow.. long time i no c this type of cute spiders ady. rclxm9.gif . I think its very hard to find this type of spiders in town ady.. dunno why.
Last time in primary skol i got catch before and keep it as pet, colour abit different Black and white abit. It cant fight. Just know how to eat and rest only.. biggrin.gif
One thing i like about this cute spider is its arm, thick like crab arms. This is the same type of arms tat i saw in the chinese news paper bfr for
its most biggest fighting spider. Its arms also thick and fat which i never saw bfr.

Attached Image

Man... its very big.. i oso say.. omg that spider is sure KENG n very strong. or Maybe its very old ady? hmm.gif

My housing area only got some average and small male fighting spiders. Not really fierce n strong also.
Archilles and Spartan i caught from the same place small garden opposite Semi-D house. Both have the same colour which is pale light green black stripes .
Its colour is different from other normal FS light green black stripes.
From their fighting skill, i know tat both spiders are really fierce and strong type. icon_idea.gif

Wa.. u so daring going into Kelapa sawit plantation alone. Too bad cant find any big/large male FS.
My neighbour kampung in Bagan Lalang got Kelapa Sawit plantation, he also got told me bfr the spiders there are big n fierce oso.
Will try ask him look for some big ones if he go back his hometown next time. The recent FS he caught for me at his car is average size.. kecut type.
Maybe just got beaten badly by other fierce FS. hmm.gif

Ur KelapaSawit is ur 3rd King now?
KelapaSawit same size like ur BigGun? Got fight them bfr?

Added on February 20, 2008, 10:30 pmThis evening caught 2 average size young males FS from pandan leaves and dunno wat type of leaves.. The leaves got 3 colour 1.. red, green and white.
Name the spider as Pandan2 - pandan leaves and the other 1 as Trinity - 3 colour leaves.

Size smaller abit if compare to Spartan. ohmy.gif

Around 7pm.. its time to let the spiders fight!! rclxm9.gif

Pandan2 vs Trinity tongue.gif
Just short push only.. Trinity won. No fight.. Pandan2 seems kecut.. hiya..

Try fight Trinity vs Spartan.
Same oso.. short arm pushing only. Trinity knows it cant win.. so ran away.

Hiya.. not exciting fight at all.. Seems these 2 FS not big enuf and not fierce type.
Since theres no other good spiders to fight, i decided to let SPARTAN fight with ARCHILLES rclxm9.gif
Both spider size are slightly different abit only. Archilles is large FS whereas Spartan is big FS.
Spartan is a good and fierce fighter so i'm quite confident its able to give a good fight for Achilles.

Archilles is slightly bigger than Spartan so i let Spartan enter the fighting ring 1st.

This fight is damn fierce lasted close to 50 seconds minus both FS fierce fighting stance position.!!!
Its 2X longer fight compared to the 22secs fight between Archilles VS BigHead!!

Spartan bottom, Archilles top.

Archilles underestimated Spartan at the beginning and get push/throw away!!, it then uses its body size advantage to push, chg position and lock Spartan while launching counter attack chops!!.
Spartan is DAMN strong!! Its able to launch alot of chops and tried many times to lift up/flip Archilles. Spartan also good at defend by locking Archilles and it just dont want to give up easily!!.

Both spider fight using all their superb fighting skills and gave their best in the fight! After the fight both spiders were exhausted and injured. sweat.gif
I can see some of their legs when walking didnt touch ground.. its leg pointed up abit.... cant walk much also after the fight coz too exhausted but no broken teeth, arms or legs. *phew. notworthy.gif
Fed with water melon juice after the fight to regain energy. No more fight .. need to let them rest to recover. nod.gif

Those FS fans should see this fight. Its the most longest and fiercest FS fight i've ever seen so far.!!!
To know which spider is the winner, see the video la.. laugh.gif

Link: http://download.yousendit.com/45574943553F7746

Archilles and Spartan fight are the best fighting spider fight i've ever seen so far !!

FUIYO, far out!!! Spartan won! Incredible fight!! ONE OF ITS KIND, man! I have never seen a fight that arm lock for so long. Like 2 fighting fish mouth to mouth lock. I can see Spartan was like a human tactical fighter, can see him pulling and pushing Archilles as well as swaying side to side, and Archilles in large reacting to it. Holy cow. He even tipped Archilles at one point.

I watched this video like 8 times before i write now. Viper, your spiders officially hold the longest lasting fight record!
I used my stopwatch to time and it was about 46 seconds. I started from the moment of arm contact. (They touch first and waited like one second before jaw to jaw contact)

Good thing you got it on video, while not very clear, it is not too bad. Clear enough to experience the drama.

Archilles is aggressive, Spartan even MORE aggressive what more given that it is smaller than Archilles. After such a long fight, he still aggressively chase after Archilles off the stage, causing Archilles to "thiu lau"(jump off the building).

You really choose a name that suit him. Spartan is probably gonna take top place. The ultimate fighter. One more fight just to confirm... that's with none other than Bighead.

Superb one, viper!!! Yeap, one of the best fight i've seen in my life.

PS, did you train them?

No lah. Kelapa sawit is only fifth king. His size is actually slighting smaller than Bro1. So cannot compare to Biggun.
He lost to Bro1 but gave good fight.

Bighead
6leg
Bigguns
Lowland(swapped i think also)
Bro1
Kelapasawit
Topman

Small chop
Small chop is category on its own.

Excellent fight. Should put it on youtube for everyone to enjoy.

It's hard to see on the video, but I didn't think there was a size difference between the two. As
a matter of fact, the blue one may have a slightly larger head than the green one. I assume the bluish
one is Spartan. I agree that he's very good at changing directions and counter attacking.

Mindstorm: Did Sixleg ever win Bigguns? He shouldn't be ranked above Bigguns if he didn't win.

Ya.. Spartan is damn fierce and aggressive in the fight!. From the start of the fight, it attack Archilles till manage to flip it aside!! See how Spartan strong attack push and chop fiercely at Archilles. Archilles was caught by suprised but managed counter back with tight lock and start push Archilles and launch several arm bitting and chops! Both spiders swap position few times and Archilles in defensive mode do a tight lock to stop Spartan from doing more fierce attack. But this cant stop Spartan at all, it cont to launch few more chops, push Archilles swaying to the side few times and mustered all its strength to lift Archilles up twice!! Spartan almost flip Archilles flat down. shocking.gif

Mindstorm, Spartan managed to lift Archilles up twice.. not one time. See the video again. icon_idea.gif

After Archilles been lifted up 2 times and get push left and right few times, Spartan able to break free from Archilles tight arms lock!
Then it launch its fierce arms pushing attack and both spiders exchanging chops few times. Spartan attack is too fierce forcing Archilles to retreat and jump off from the fighting ring. Archilles was knockout/fainted ! sweat.gif It cant climb up its web at all coz too exhausted n injured after the fight!
I try to blow some air see whether Archilles can regain conscious to climb up but still fail. Spartan on top of the fighting ring is still actively searching for Archilles. After some time i see Archilles not moving, i lift it up using my hand and can see its injured ady.. one leg twisted abit up in the air and cant walk. It just stay on my finger exhausted and tired. Fed it with watermelon just but still movement very weak, put it back to its case. Later i check on Spartan, it also exhausted and not moving already. Gave water melon just but drink abit only. Spartan seems injured more badly from the fight, 2 of its leg facing up the air and at few times Spartan almost fall upside down when i put in on the uneven leaf! sweat.gif Its too exhausted from the fight!! After rest for quite some time, finally Spartan able to move slowly back and i keep it to its case.

Both fighters is totally exhausted and injured from the fierce fight. sweat.gif

This morning bfr work, i check Archilles is back to normal already. Its actively roaming around in its case walking upside down. Spartan also recovering well, but not as active like Archilles, maybe is resting. rclxm9.gif

Spartan size is slightly smaller than Archilles, its size different is obvious and i can know which is Spartan easily immediately after the fight.
Its actually not really fair fight i must say. cry.gif

Somemore Spartan been sparring with few others average male FS few days and the same nite bfr the fight like vs Pandan1, Pandan2, Trinity and etcs. Spartan might still be recovering from any injury or still tired from the previous few fights earlier especially after the fierce fight with Pandan1. sweat.gif Wack Pandan1 till one teeth broke. sweat.gif

Archilles since its the largest spider i have, i dont dare to let it fight with other average size FS.
The last fight Archilles had was with BigGun and BigHead about 1 week ago.

I didnt train my spiders much. Only Spartan got chance to spar/fight with others average size FS. Most of it just short arm pushing only, except Pandan1 able to give a good strong fight. Got play with the spiders to let them jump from my fingers to my other hands fingers. Seeing them jump is quite fun. Also go tap my hands and let them fall down with its web and later let it climb up its web. Archilles at the other hand most of the lazing and having fun with its female partner. tongue.gif No fight with other FS coz cant find any big/large spiders to fight with.

Fight with your BigHead? Ur BigHead is bigger abit than Archilles leh.. Archilles is slightly bigger than Spartan.
Tat means ur BigHead is much bigger than Spartan. unsure.gif Spartan is a very fierce FS tat able to knock out its opponent twice already.. Pandan1 and even bigger opponent like Archilles. No doubt Spartan is a fierce, brave and excellent fighting spider but due to size different, Spartan is at a more disadvantage position and might get injured more badly if fight with bigger FS. The more suitable fight is of coz with ur BigGuns. laugh.gif But for the time being, need to let Spartan have a good rest to recover from yesterday ferocious fight.

Added on February 21, 2008, 11:51 amYa.. superb fighting display by both Spartan and Archilles.
Mindstorm if you free, you can upload the videos in Youtube.

I use Dopod 838pro PDAhandphone camera to shoot the video in the evening. Very lucky the quality is still ok and much better compared to the previous fight Spartan vs Pandan1 which is quite blur. I dun have viewcam like Mindstorm .. tongue.gif

Spartan and Archilles actually have the same colour which is light pale green colour coz caught from the same area. Their colour is easier to differentiate.. if u see the video fight between Archilles and BigHeads. In the video BigHeads green colour is more darker green type.
It also shows tat Achilles is slightly smaller compare to BigHead.

In the fight against BigHead, Archilles bend both its arms inside and look very fierce bfr fight. But in yesterday fight, Archilles arms was wide open when close in to fight but Spartan arms position bend in looks more fiercer, Spartan surprisingly move backwards few times before start fighting maybe because facing a bigger opponent.. need to judge its opponent strength carefully. hmm.gif Archilles charged openly at Spartan even when its near but seems not really serious at the beginning of the fight based on it arm fighting stance position. It was then Spartan pound hard at Archilles !!
Archilles tried its best to fight back after got surprised attck continuously by Spartan. tongue.gif Can see clearly Archilles immediately do a tight lock and push/carry Spartan backwards Even after a fierce push n get flip earlier by Spartan. Its a very strong push and counter attack by Archilles!

Fighting stance arms position can show whether the spiders is really serious in the fight or take the fight lightly.

I think...if FS
Arms bend in deep - fierce fighting stance..more on defensive but can launch strong attk.
Arms open wide - more confident, ready to start arm pushing fast .. more attack but less defensive style.
Arms up in the air - surrender sign?, want to make love? tongue.gif

Bluish FS is rare...my friend chop FS oso bluish in colour and man.. its damn fierce and strong oso!!

huh.. having trouble going through all 10 pages with long posts and pictures
i was too playing fighting spiders when i was in secondary school..
primary school tat time only see other ppl plays it.. i involve catching it after i was in secondary school.
playing it with classmates and other class students.. mine was quite a good fighter..
then there comes once i met this spider as what has been described earlier, sek pao. my school is calling it as "kap pao". as it runs straight to the enemy.
that fight last less than 3 seconds, as the enemy rush towards my spider, both jumped from the matching place and fell on to table, and mine ran once it dropped on the table. while the sek pao remains unmoved.
obviously mine loose. my spider totally lose confident to fight anymore, even after 1 month. i let it go and after that i can't find a good spider as my previous 1..

saw that brown colour spider before. it doesn't have long hands as normal fighting spider, it's brown in colour, big head, and it wins in fighting XD agreed it's very rare now. only seen this before while i was in primary school.

the colourfull types ain't a fighter, as for most that i have seen. they have the shaped like fighting spider, they can fight, but most of the time they back off.

last time i always look for spider at pandan leaves and those short coconut trees. never ever dare to venture into deep bushes, afraid of snakes laugh.gif

Surprised to know Spartan and Archilles had their legs injured in the fight as i couldnt seem to see them biting legs, maybe during the tipping. Mostly I see them jaw to jaw. Bet there is a lot of grinding of teeth.

The fight reminds me of watching UFC, when the fighters lock each other up on the ground...each trying to manoveur their way to get to an advantaged position.

Giving water melon juice, wah... new to me. I must try on my spiders too. Hope they dont get diabetes. smile.gif

Here are some backlog fights to update.

Lowland is half chop now. Check how he fights. No long fights but pretty aggressive.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMzyYj7AZt4

Bighead LOSES! Twice! to 6 legs.. and short fight only!
Looks like Bighead may be losing it...

From first fight, we can compare their size.
Attached Image Attached Image
Attached Image Attached Image
Attached Image
But second fight is right after Bighead mated(with a third female)! haha! I am really pushing his limits....
Third fight shows Bighead is still no pushover. But from this fight you can see how disadvantage being one arm is.. you always get attacked on your weaker side.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CuFNvCG63K8

As of writing this that was the last fight between Bighead and 6leg. 6leg looks weaker after the last fight. I scared another fight might fatally injure him.

SORRY guys. Bigguns is DEAD. I found him dead yesterday in the water in the bottle where i place my plant. I dunno why. When i found him, he was still fully intact but limp. His stomach was medium fat. I am wondering wheather drinking the water may have killed him. Cuz the water quite old. But i have been spraying fresh water everyday at least 2 times a day. Really sad.

hi, nice to meet a malaysian guru of spider-martial-arts! biggrin.gif

as far as i know, we have two kinds of traditional spider-fightings in jpn.
in kantoh area (central jpn including tokyo), they usually use males of the jumping spider, Carrhotus xanthogramma.
that spider-fighting is called "honchi" in local dialect.
here is an excellent example footage (not by me).
http://videocast.yahoo.co.jp/video/detail/...230376151749500

in kyusyu and shikoku areas (southern jpn), they use females of the black & golden garden spider, Argiope amoena (orb-weaver of the family Araneidae).
a few years ago, the national geographic channel made a documentary titled "samurai spiders" featuring an annual tournament of that spider-fighting. (i have never watched it yet, though.)
here is official rules.
http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~hi2h-ikd/asjap...spiderfight.htm

looks like u have plenty of interesting vids.
i am gonna watch them all when i have time.
and i would like to make more vid clips of fighting spiders, too.

cheers!

Most of the time their legs got injured when trying to hold from getting push/flip/carry/ chg position by forced from their opponents.
Maybe sprained or terseliuh due to to strong attack force. After a long fierce fight, the spiders seems cant move properly or just stay still.. coz 2 exhausted n legs injured. Yeah.. i forgot to mention, Archilles back abdomen oso seems injured abit, can see it try to twist n turn its abdomen abit after tat day fight. sweat.gif

Yeah, fruit juice is best for FS. I fed my FS with mandarin oranges, water melon and papaya juice and the response is good tongue.gif . I've tried using normal plain water earlier but the FS doesnt seems want to drink.

Both spiders Archilles and Spartan are recovering well. Archilles as usual like to roam around its case.
Spartan seems still abit weak not much walking around but still good appetite, yesterday he managed to kill a medium houseflies for food. rclxms.gif

Your 6Legs eventho big but very disadvantage when pitted against BigHead. Too much risk leh..6Legs cant afford to lose anymore his legs n arm.
LowLand seems very aggressive..chops n fierce attack.
I see some of the fights is on top of paper.. I feel fight on top paper no so good la.. coz not much grip/def hold for ur FS. It better to fight on surface tat the FS can get a tight strong hold for its legs so it wont easily slip or get push.

Too bad ur BigGun died already.. blush.gif I think he sliped into the water case and drowned. FS don't like to get wet and get drowned easily.
Yea, clean water for FS oso important.. dirty water maybe higher risk for FS to get sick or die.

The japan fighting spider video seems boring . not exciting.. the other yellow spider seems better but no video.
I've email u a fighting spider pic chk it out in ur email. Got it from some photo website.
Tat spider looks like a tough fighter.

RIP Biggun.

You may be in a better position to tell, but I'm not sure if Bighead has lost the edge. The losses he had was to a chop that is about the same size (or even slightly bigger) than him. I didn't think he's a very aggressive spider anyway, and chops are hard to beat...even with less than 8 legs.

The japanese spiders don't look very interesting. Ant spider, hantu kuning and long leg fights are more exciting than that.

F1: check out Mindstorm's youtube clips if you have time. They are impressive.

Ya.. RIP BigGun.. too bad no chance for him to spar with Spartan. blush.gif

According to Mindstorm, BigHead mated with female spiders few times. I also think and its possible tat BigHead still exhausted after the mating activities. tongue.gif
Archilles also mated 3X, Spartan 1X before fight. drool.gif

Yeap, fight against chop spider is unfair if get cheap attack from behind/side. Chop spider fight without any fear even against bigger FS and it will fight with the
intention to kill/injured its opponent badly. ohmy.gif CHOP spider oso have alot of strength and doesnt get tired easily.

If a direct fight face to face against another fierce FS, its ok coz its able to lock the CHOP spider and counter back with alots CHOPS as well..
A good example is how Archilles do a tight lock when Spartan attack fiercely with few chops at the beginning.
If your FS is fierce and strong, it can defeat a CHOP spider in a direct fight. icon_idea.gif

*sigh.. this morning when i check on Archilles, i found it not moving and looks like dead already.. cry.gif Its arms and legs position all bend.
Its different from the other normal FS death. Normal FS if die, its back abdomen will shrink and no white web cover it at all.
I can see Archilles back abdomen bottom is all white and top part is also almost covered in white web string.
Its abdomen is still fat and doesnt shrink in size.. hmm.gif

Attached Image

I noticed after the fight with Spartan, Archilles back abdomen seems injured. Can see it try to twist its abdomen left and right abit once awhile.
It also don't want to eat but suprisingly still active can roam around its case upside down.

I can not really confirm whether Archilles is dead or not, maybe its trying to mold and chg skin? Will keep it in its case for few days to observe. sweat.gif
Some spider moulding info
http://www.xs4all.nl/~ednieuw/Spiders/InfoNed/blood.html

Mindstorm can u confirm or share any knowlegde or experience u have on spider moulding? U got experience or c see any FS like in Archilles condition?

Spartan seems much weaker after the the fight compare to Archilles but still got good appetite.. still eat n drink alot. I see Spartan like getting bigger already compare to few days ago. Back abdomen is getting fatter coz eat alot of juicy flies. So far still ok.

Silverblue.. FS don't bite, sometimes can feel they rub the legs or teeth on my fingers skin. Maybe feel abit geli but no holes or tear on skin 1.
Other spiders i'm no sure... I saw few different spiders like Spider Besi n Spider Bandar where their size is much bigger and looks more scarier...
I'm more worried about Spider Besi ... its body abdomen top got a logo like "+" sign. Big Spider Besi got big teeth .. and it will kills other spiders n insects with its strong bite.

I'm only confident to hold FS on my finger, other spiders... better be careful la..

See.. Archilles on my finger. No bite1.

Sorry man. Looks like he's left us. I've never seen a bloated stomach like that before. I wonder if it could have been due to the venom from the other spider. Probably got hurt in the abdomen and then died from poisoning.

Ya, i oso think like tat.. Archilles stomach is covered with its web. Tats why look like abit bloated.
Its alwys look full type and don't shrink eventho not eaten anything much. I've released its female partner 2 days ago after lay eggs and only left Archilles alone in its case. Got put in life medium size flies n mosquitoes but he doesnt want to eat. Doesnt seem to drink the water i drip in also after the fight but still active moving around his case.

Archilles is trully a strong FS. Its among the best FS i've ever had.

Now i only have 1 FS which is Spartan. Its doing well, ate another small flies this morning.

Sorry man.  Looks like he's left us.  I've never seen a bloated stomach like that before.  I wonder if it could have been due to the venom from the other spider.  Probably got hurt in the abdomen and then died from poisoning.

Juz wondering, have you guy did any research that how frequent a FS will meet up with another FS and commit into fight in the wild? Comparing to the frequency of your own FS that gets into fight which is arranged?

I have this doubt after reading one of you guys reply that these captured FS must be arranged to fight so that when released, they do not lose the ability.

Also, normally when you guys met a FS in the wild, what are the chances to met one which is injured? Is it as high as the injury occurs from fight that are arranged?

Since this thread is quite new and especially myself, this is totally new to me. So i wish to know more instead of run into conclusion.

If u r new and interested on FS.. maybe u can do some research by reading forums here or read the research papers which i've found from the net and posted in the forum before. The research paper have documented alot FS info. Try and see FS video posted by Mindstorm n me to understand how the FS fight. The videos posted mostly from good FS fight. You cant get this videos anywhere coz theres no video from the internet on FS fight previously. I bet u can only hear ppl play fighting spiders from mouth of c pics only...
In actual real life.. most of the normal fight lasted very short while only.

At places where FS habitat, theres are alwys more than 1 male and 1 female FS of coz.. If the places have alot of leaves, lotsa insects/food supplies, not too expose to hot sunlight..there will be quite alot of fighting spiders. You just need to try to look for its nest or its habitat place hard enough.
If the area is good place, there will be alot of FS and sometimes if u r lucky, u can see 2 male FS fighting direct in front of you eyes at its habitats.

U know why ppl call them FIGHTING spiders? Its because of its amazing fighting ability skills and FS can fight unlike other spiders.. just know how to kill only.

Frequency the FS fight in wild compare to the captured1?.
Nowdays less ppl catch fighting spiders to fight and its so difficult to find other people who have good fighting spiders to fight with. Even if got arrange fight also like once a month? Fight with other own caught FSs also like 1-3 days once if only can catch any FS.
Seldom people fight the spiders continuously coz the FS will be exhauted or injured.
The ones captures, its fight is normally arrange for similiar other FS which is about the same size or slightly bigger/smaller abit to have a fair fight.
The fight depends on its opponent, if the FS fight is just a short and light one, its possible to have few other rounds of fight.
If the fight is a fierce one and the FS injured, its put back in its case for rest. Feed with food n drinks for it to recover. Will only let it fight few days later when its active back. Basically its depend on how the owner take care of FS, the food, its place to live and how the fight is conducted.

In the wild at its habitat, FS have to fight with red ants tat try to invade its nest for dead insects, black ants, other species of spiders, and also its own same species for survival. Hot weather and heavy rain also not good for FS. Its the survival of the fittest. FS will build its nest at a safe place from its predator. Male FS have more risk compare to females FS, male FS alwys roam out of its nest to find food and female FS everyday. The female FS most of the time stay at its nest and wait for insects to passby or wait for strong male FS to mate. If the FS is injured in the wild, chances for it to survive is very little coz hard to move around to find food n water. It also unable to run away fast when predator comes.

When i try to search for FS, I do came across injured FS, 1-2 arms missing, 1-2 legs missing male FS.. small young FS get eaten by ants in its nest.. etcs.. Other species spider like Spider Besi also kill n eat FS.. i also got found some Spider Besi at FS habitats and its kinda scary if its big. This spiders is a killer.. it kills FS as part of its food. FS is different, most of the time for same FS species, they will only fight for territory, female n food. It hardly eat its own species unless if its really hungry.

Not all FS are excellent or fierce fighter. Only some are really fierce and can fight very well. Chance to catch a very big n fierce FS is not easy unless u are really determine to find one... like Mindstorm or me. Most of the FS fight normally just a short 1, just few secs.. coz the weaker FS will retreat n ran ..some even bfr the fight start afer face contact or judge opponnent arms fighting stance. FS able to judge its opponent size and strength base on its arms fighting position and its fierce fighting stance/dance. For the fierce big FS, they will engage the fight direct and will retreat immediately if sense it cant defeat its opponent. A good example here is like BigHead vs BigGuns or Archilles vs BigGuns.

FS will fight most of the time whenever they see each other just like fighting fish. Its just depend on whether to accept the fight n also how long
can they fight. If they see another male FS nearby its area, it will move closer and challenge it to a fight. Its their natural fighting instinct. By fighting also, it will makes FS stronger for survival and stands a better chance to mate with female FS eventho no proper research available on this belief.
Smaller ones or weaker one of coz will retreat or just fight short time n run away.

FS is a natural born fighter. They will not lose it, if it lose in a fight, it will become scared but after sometime it will be confident and start fighting again. Injury from fights whether at its habitat or arranged fight is the about same coz the fighting spiders will decide how it want to fight. If lose, the FS can run away under the leaf or jump away. Its more depends on the FS opponent it fights with. If fight against a big n fierce FS directly... the FS will be exhausted most of the time but will be able to recover fast if well taken care by its owner. Injury like broken arms, legs teeth and death do happen if both FS doesn't want to withraw from the fight but very seldom...unless u can find alot of fierce fighting spider to fight n always let them fight all the time. Normal FS fight are just to defeat its opponent only and NOT to kill or injured them badly. The CHOP FS are the one that can coz bad injury or death for FS most of the time if got attack by surprise.

For me, i feel its harder to find a strong or fierce FS to fight with for those captured one as compared to their fights at the wild against their own same species and also other predators at its habitat.

If u r not sure about what i've wrote here, u can go and try catch one or few FS n also try to look for people who have FS for arranged fight.
Try and see how many of ur FS and ur opponent FS are really good fighter that can really fight well.
Then maybe u can know better whether the chances for the FS to get injured in the wild or arranged fight is more or less.

Sad to hear Archilles gone. I think Archilles died because attack by another spider.... small tiny ones that sometimes roam about in the house. It is very small and can move very fast. Of cuz i'm not hundred percent sure but how can web be wrapped around its abdomen by himself? Never in my life have i come across this.... like X-files. But i do think some small spiders can be very deadly to other spiders/insects. And they can crawl through the openings in your container.

Most of the spiders i kept in my adult life, when they are going to die, I would know. Usually they stop eating and move slowly. They also seem to become blind and do not respond to an insect nearby. Usually in a few days then they would die.

We must remember FS are small creatures. And most small creatures esp insects/spiders don't live very long. Eg. fruit flies only live for about 45 days, bloodworms gnat only live for 3-5 days in adult life.
I am still not sure what is the normal life span of a FS but probably like you experienced, about 1 year for FS in adult stage.

Anyway try not to keep your spiders too near corners of cupboard/boxes...

When you said female you kept with Spartan laid eggs, it may not be Spartan's brood cuz you din really see them mate right?

WhitePalace... if you see the pics on the top of this page you can see my spider 6leg. When i found him, he already only has 6legs. So yes, injury of FS in the wild is pretty common. I also have one pic of a FS with 5 legs found in the wild. Plenty others i have seen with one arm less which i didnt bother to catch or show. I also have seen adult FS being eaten by other spiders although not so common. I also have seen half-bodied(abdomen gone) FS in a nest...dead of cuz. When we keep our spiders and fight them, lost of legs is very very rare. It is much easier to catch a FS with already legs gone than to see a fight that cuz them to lose a leg.

The truth is in the wild being eaten and eating others and fighting is actually common and normal. When i catch them to see them fight, yeah, on one hand you may say i cuz them to fight, on the other hand, by keeping them i may have saved it from being eaten by some other predator. Predators of a small spider like that is plentiful in the open. Can be cicak, small iguana, other spiders, wasps, preying mantis, ants(an army of big ants can rip a spider apart in no time) etc.

Ya, Archillies has died. I've keep its body for about 2 days and finally decided to let it back at the place where i previously caught. cry.gif

There are no other spiders in Archilles case. Archilles case is inside another 2 plastic case which is surrounded by water. This mean there are two layers of water to prevent ants or other insects to go inside. Previously my FS got eaten by ants during my skol days, tats why i'm extra careful to protect my FS.

I've also released Archilles female partner coz i think too much mating might make Archilles weak. Previously i've kept Archilles with 2 female FS and Spartan with 1 female FS for about 1 month +.
I didnt see the FS mate but the female FS have laid eggs only recently after stay with the male FS about 1mth, and it should be from Archilles and Spartan.

There are no other small spiders in the case and i'm also surprise there are web on its abdomen. Its back abdomen is still intact and no burst sign.. from bottom can see its become white colour already, top also got some web covering it.

I also notice after the fight, Archilles stop eating n drinkin, doesnt pay much attention to the insect food but still active moving around its case. I also try test put Spartan in a see thru plastic case near to Archilles, both FS still show fierce fighting position and ready to fight. I didnt let both the FS fight, just wanted to see both the FS not kecut or scared.

Archilles fight with BigHead and Spartan are among the fierce FS fight i've ever seen.
I'll miss Archilles and remember it as one of my best FS.
